ιαω: The Mystery Supreme Deity 🧵

Helena P. Blavatsky writes, “ The very ancient name of God, Yaho, written in the Greek Ι αω, appears, apart from its derivation, to have been an old mystic name of the Supreme deity of the Shemites."

"In the old religion of the Chaldeans, whose remains are to be found among the Neo-Platonists, the highest divinity, enthroned above the seven heavens, representing the Spiritual Light-Principle, and also conceived of as Demiurgus, was called Ι αω ( יהו ) or IAO in ENGLISH."

"ιαω, like the Hebrew Yaha, is mysterious & unmentionable, and whose name was communicated to the Initiated."

This "Mystery" God Yaho OR IΑΩ was, also, the Supreme G-d of the Phoenicians. The Deity’s name was triliteral and secret, a Mathematical "Formula" occulted as a NAME.

Blavatsky continues, "He again is the triune IAO (the Mystery God) called the “fourfold,”and yet the triad & tetradic symbols come under one unified name with the Christians — the Jehovah of the seven letters?"

What does Blavatsky mean?

IAO in Greek is IΑΩ (Iota-Alpha-Omega).

IΑΩ is the Greek Form of the Tetragrammaton, YHVH (Yod He Vau He), the Four Letter Name of the Hebrew G-d, transliterated as Jehovah or Yahweh. The Tetragrammaton is the FOUR Letter Name of the Hebrew G-d but it is, in fact, THREE Letters, the YOD is repeated TWICE.

Trilateral but FOURFOLD.

"If we can appreciate the fact that, among all the peoples of antiquity, the most natural conception of the First Cause manifesting itself in its creatures, and that to this they could not but ascribe the creation of all, was that of an Androgyne Deity."

The male principle the vivifying invisible spirit, and the female, mother nature; we shall be enabled to understand how that mysterious cause came at first to be represented as the combination of the Alpha & Omega of numbers, a decimal, then as IAO, containing a DEEP ALLEGORY.

"IAO, in such a case, would etymologically considered mean the "Breath of Life," generated or springing forth between an upright male and an egg-shaped female principle of nature; for, in Sanskrit, as means "to be," "to live or exist"; and originally it meant "to breathe".

"From it in its original sense of breathing, the Hindus formed 'asu,' breath, and 'asura,' the name of God, whether it meant the breathing one or the giver of breath." It certainly meant the latter. In Hebrew, "Ah" and "Iah" mean LIFE."

IAO is at the heart of the Thelemic Mystery.

IAO is used as the ancient name for the origin of Life. The numerical value of IAO is 811, a prime number. The Equivalent Greek word AIO means, not surprisingly, "I BREATHE, I LIVE, I KNOW".

'I know' would clearly correlate with the word Gnosis (Knowledge) as the Breath was to the Ancient Greeks, the Spirit, making this the fifth element, which added to the traditional Qabalistic Cross creates the figure of the Pentagram, or on a higher plane, the apex of a pyramid.

What does this mean?

Aleister Crowley states that IAO (IΑΩ) is  the principal and most characteristic formula of Osiris, of the Redemption of Mankind. "I" is Isis, Nature, ruined by "A", Apophis the Destroyer, and restored to life by the Redeemer Osiris.

This is the Doctrine of Emanation, Return & Annihilation (Reabsorption) personified and symbolized by the Hindoos as Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva AND, to the Egyptians, as Isis, Aphosis & Osiris. These Three Principles, also, correspond to the Supernal Triangle on the Sephirothic Tree.

IΑΩ (IAO) represents 'The 'I', or rather the erect - upstanding pillar- creative, denoting the wisdom & strength that stands alone and is self-existing. The 'A', is a pyramid or mountain of strength. The 'O' is the serpent with its tail in its mouth", "the Alpha & Omega".

Gerald Massey identified with IAO with the Supreme God of the Druids, Hu or Huhi.

"In all the Mystery Traditions, they teach that there is only One Supreme God. This Great Universal Presences - or God - is called by many names. "Hu" or "Huwa" is a name for God in Sufism."

Massey continues, "Literally, Arabic for "He." In Sufism Hu or Huwa is the pronoun used with Allah or God & is used as a name of God. "Allah Hu" means "God, Just He!" In Arabic Allah means God & with Hu, as an intensive added to Allah, means "God himself."

Massey finishes by saying, "Hu" is also found in the Islamic credo La Ilaha Ila Allah Hu: "There is no God but Allah," or in Sufi interpretation "There is no reality, except God", or in La Ilaha Ila Huwa meaning "There is no god but He."

Huhi corresponds to Supreme Deity of Saivite Schools, Isvara, named sNang ba ód Idan OR khri khug rgyal po. That which he creates has two aspects, the exterior world and that contained within it, a division that corresponds to that between the Indian Bhajana-Loka & Sattva-Loka.

"The cosmology which is attached to this is surely very old, and is throughout constructed on a dualist basis. From the breath which streamed out of the creator there emerged two syllables HU HU, and progressively, the entire universe."

Massey claimed that the Huhi was the Same as JeHoVaH.

Massey writes, "The one god in Israel is made known to Moses by the two names of Ihuh and Iah. Now a  priest of ON would naturally learn at On of the one god Atum-Ra, who was HUHI."

"Huhi, the eternal in the character of God the father of Iu in the character of God the son, which were one. In accordance with Egyptian thought, that which was for ever was the only true reality.  This was represented by Huhi the eternal."

"And Huhi is the god made known to Israel by the priest of On. Gesenius derives the name of Ihuh from a root huh, which root does not exist in Hebrew.  But it exist in Egyptian.  Huh or heh signifies ever, everlastingness, eternity, the eternal."

"Huhi was a title applied to Ptah, Atum-Ra & Osiris, as Neb-Huhi the everlasting lord. Thus the one god as their Huhi was not only he who is for ever as the father, but also he who comes for ever as the son."

"Thus the name of an eternal, self existing being which in Hebrew can be traced as Huhi, the name of the one eternal, ever-lasting god. All that was ever represented to the Jewish mind by the name of Jehovah had been expressed to the Egyptian by the word huhi or, later, hehi."

This would back up Albert Pike's claim that Masonry's Lost Word is concealed in the name of Hu or Massey's HuHi. This would mean the Lost Word is concealed in IΑΩ, the TETRAGRAMMATON, the Grand Doctrine of Emanation, Return & Annihilation (Reabsorption), the Mystery of G-O-D.
