Yikes. Ted Cruz’s CNN appearance is FULL of misleading claims and outright lies about abortion, IVF, and Texas law. So let’s go through and debunk them all, shall we? 🧵
1.
“Senator Cruz states his bill protects IVF”– that is false.
In fact, the way the bill is written– it would still allow for states to make laws restricting IVF. Cruz’s approach to IVF is similar to his abortion stance as he wants to leave it to the states to decide, the problem with this is that states– LIKE TEXAS– have implemented extreme laws that put people’s lives at risk but also make people fearful of prosecution. It is very apparent with recent laws and proposals that Republicans are seeking to establish fetal personhood laws so that they can continue to restrict a vast number of healthcare processes and procedures.
FALSE. The Life at Conception Act, which is a NATIONAL ABORTION BAN, has over 120 sponsors in the House, INCLUDING SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON. Cruz walks backs his claim to state that he doesn’t know of anyone in the “Senate” who supports banning IVF because a mirrored bill was introduced in the Senate with an exception. Cruz intentionally words it this way and fails to mention that the bill with an IVF exception was introduced BEFORE the bill in the House which does not. (S.99 was introduced in January of 2021, HR1011 was introduced in February of 2021)
If anything this shows that Republicans are divided on the issue and that protections for IVF are NOT guaranteed or even supported by the Republican Party.
I’m thrilled to announce that this cycle I’ll be focusing on my home state of Texas as a Senior Advisor to the @LoseCruzPAC— focusing on ousting Senator Ted Cruz.
Texas— I’m happy to be coming home. I can’t wait to make all of our voices heard— by kicking Cruz to the curb.
I haven’t given much breath to the Marianne Williamson campaign because i find it to be dangerous and disingenuous, but since so many young progressive seem to think I’m a DNC paid Biden Shrill, let me explain to you finally why I’m voting for Joe.
First of all, no where have I said I agree with Biden 100% of the time. I point to my own statement on the Willow project that so many people seem to have just glossed over, or my condemnation of the asylum ban— which once again people like you aidan seem to ignore.
I’m well aware of the fact that progress is needed— and fresh voices are desired. Here is my biggest problem with what Williamson is doing— she’s posturing. She’s saying everything you want to hear & claiming to be a champion of progress but HOW will she do it?
Pursuant to the RESTRICT bill, Facebook is unquestionably a national security threat subject to consequential actions by the federal government IF this bill were to pass.
I’ll be breaking down the RESTRICT act later this week, but I can’t help but point out the hypocrisy and danger this kind of broad governmental overreach can have. This bill isn’t the “TikTok ban” it is much larger and sweeping than that. congress.gov/118/bills/s686…
The congressional budget office said if this bill passed it could reduce funding for title 1 schools from the DOE. It could also invalidate funding for school lunch programs.
To be a title 1 school, 40% of your students have to be eligible for the free and reduced program.
House republicans are essentially threatening to starve low income students, who very often rely on free and reduced lunch programs to eat at ALL, if these schools do not create a hostile educational environment.
