@HarrisonGarlic1 "Porn should be illegal"

I can't support you in this. Now, please don't misunderstand. I'm not saying that porn is a good thing, or that I'm reject your arguments that Catholics (or indeed, Christians in general) should want nothing to do with it. But this is America, and

(1/2)
@HarrisonGarlic1 the First Amendment is non-negotiable. There is to be no establishment of religion. Therefore, any argument for the passage of a law based on spiritual concerns is a non-starter.

The State is not an agent of Salvation. When that shortcut was tried, before, it ended badly.

(2/2)
@HarrisonGarlic1 In a secular society, when a clergyman tries to save a soul, all he can use is persuasion. This might seem limiting, but for the genuinely godly, in the long run, it is anything but, because both the piety and the good sense of the true man of God will draw others to him.
@HarrisonGarlic1 Even those who had been without faith before. But all an agent of the State needs, should he be inclined to dish out his own brand of salvation, is brute force and the fear it inspires.
@HarrisonGarlic1 To whom shall brutality come most quickly and naturally - to he who serves God, or to the fellow who really, without admitting it, has been playing for His not at all loyal opposition, all along?

As bad as porn is, religious wars are incomparably worse.
@HarrisonGarlic1 Religious freedom is what stands between us and the return of those wars, so yes, this is non-negotiable.

@hexclad @GordonRamsay It looks pretty-ish, in a cooking magazine cover sort of way, but this is a perfect example of a bad idea about cooking that gets embedded in a lot of empty heads because of those photos, with the help of social media groupthink.

Look at the photo. What's glaringly wrong?
@hexclad @GordonRamsay Bright, white garlic sitting next to and on top of a well browned cut of meat. In real life, garlic burns and turns bitter far more quickly than meat browns, when it isn't being kept moist, and no, basting it with hot cooking fat won't do that.
@hexclad @GordonRamsay Because, duh, water isn't fat soluble. If there were enough water mixed in with the oil to rehydrate the garlic as the moisture was driven out of it, it would have separated out into droplets that would be exploding in the hot oil, scalding the cook because there is no screen ...

@Dee_Rob__ @simon4124 @CitizenFreePres "Did you see the overwhelming evidence against the 2 white murderers that killed Emmett Till a young black boy?"

And what part of the country was this in, D.?

"They were set free.. as I said we were just glad to see it happen to whites for once."

For once?
@Dee_Rob__ @simon4124 @CitizenFreePres You have the b a l l s to say "for once," as if those two were the only victims of Black on White violence?

The former population of the South Side of Chicago would like to have a word with you.
@Dee_Rob__ @simon4124 @CitizenFreePres Oh, by the way, for those who haven't heard of the unfortunate Mr. Till, he was murdered in Mississippi on 28 August 1955, a few years before Nicole Brown Simpson was born.

That's over 68 years ago.

@DarlingStella88 @CitizenFreePres He murdered his wife. Not a bad cop. Not even a good cop. Just the woman he swore to love and cherish.

If there are a lot of Black people who honestly can't see why that's wrong and needs to be punished, then that's a real problem, a violent civil rights issue.
@DarlingStella88 @CitizenFreePres If one were to find out that a Black person living in the Reconstruction Era South had made an attempt to avoid White people, hardly anybody would think of accusing that Black person of racism, or of saying #NotAllWhiteSoutherners were violent racists who needed to be avoided.
@DarlingStella88 @CitizenFreePres They'd recognize that the Black person was living in a dangerous time and place, and had the right to avoid situations that had a good chance of turning dangerous.

That same argument works both ways, or neither.

@MidThighShorts @JGrantGlover The OP, because his pseudo-progressive neo-Puritanism wasn't being forced on everybody?
@MidThighShorts @JGrantGlover This tweet might explain things.

"There's a group of three old men at this coffee shop shooting the breeze and only half listening to each other, and honestly that's all I want in life."
@MidThighShorts @JGrantGlover He wants a quiet life, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but he's also an activist.

@JGrantGlover @paulpope2 Bewildered about what? It's not like we were being packed in like sardines in that 22% of the city. There were midrises and highrises, there, while the less dense neighborhoods were either burned out warzones, or full of single family homes.
@JGrantGlover @paulpope2 If one is single, and hasn't run into a horrible landlord, or a lockdown, why is one going to want to have something as expensive and socially isolating as a home of one's own?
@JGrantGlover @paulpope2 Imagine the absurdity of both a man and a woman buying their own houses, taking out the usual 30 year mortgages AND THEN meeting each other, falling in love, getting married, and having moved in together, finding themselves with awkward questions.

@JesseKellyDC Referenced in this Tucker Carlson interview.

..
@JesseKellyDC Comment re: the interview cited, above. I think that Mr. Kelly is being unrealistically optimistic in some ways. Civil war is already inevitable. The only questions, at this point, is how it can be delayed and how to minimize the death and destruction that it will create.
@JesseKellyDC When one sees two factions of comparable (and immense) size in the US in a conflict, and the existential concerns of one are greeted with a narcissist's claims of invincibility by the other, bloodshed will be seen. It's not a question of "if," only one of "when."
