holloway: "it's a long series. we knew we were going to have to battle through adversity, so we'll focus on the next one." Image
holloway on his two-goal game, his comfort level: "i'm feeling confident. i think playing with janny and sammy there, they're two great players. they make some nice plays and make it easy for me. credit to them, credit to our team for being so resilient, but ultimately, we didn't get the win, so it doesn't really matter."
holloway on what happened on the goals against: "just some tough bounces. a couple of their goals, the last goal, a tough bounce. kempe's goal where he batted it out of the air, that's a tough one too. i think we're battling defensively, the guys are trying, we just got to stick with it."
ekholm on the bounces tonight: "you saw some of the goals they scored last game, you saw some of the goals they scored tonight, not to take anything away, but they seem to be flukey goals somehow. it's a bat out of the air, it's a shot from outside the hash marks on the ice. they just seem to find its way through, and that's the playoffs. they're putting pucks to the net, and they're going in for them. i still like the way we played, we still had the puck a lot, and i think we're managing that in a good way. obviously, we'd like to keep it a little bit less against, but i like our game. it's the playoffs: it's highs and lows and we weren't going to go 16-0. i think the group can find confidence in a lot of things we did, but obviously there's some things we can also do better."Image
ekholm on if he feels the oilers are in control so far this series: "i don't think i've ever said, and i don't think any team in this playoffs is in complete control of anything. it's the playoffs. it's the best teams in the world, so there's going to be moments in games where nobody has control. being said that, i liked the way we played, if that's what you're asking. again, i thought tonight too, we had chances to score more goals. as i said earlier, i'd like to cut a few defensively and instead of maybe increasing offensively. our offence is fine."
ekholm on holloway's game: "he's always had it, it's just been a matter of him finding it himself. i think he's in a great spot right now. i think he's playing well, he's not thinking out there. you can tell the difference in the time i've been here. in the beginning, he was maybe thinking too much, but now he's trusting his instincts. he's got a heckuva shot, he showed it twice tonight. he's been great for us here coming down the stretch."
ekholm on managing the highs and lows: "it's about managing it. i didn't think we were too high at all after the first win, i didn't think any bit too low after this one. we knew in ot, anything can happen. that's a good team over there. still again, i liked the way we played and i think everybody in here feels good about our game and that's what we're focusing on."
ekholm on if the odd bounces against the oilers were frustrating: "it works both ways, right? i was on for a couple of them tonight, and i have to look myself in the mirror and see what i can do better. sometimes, the bounces just happen, i don't know if there was anything i could've done better, but, at the same time, when they do make good plays on you, they've obviously broken you down. i don't think that's the case here. there's not a lot of offensive time where they hem you in, keep coming, keep coming. i feel that's more what we do, so i'm still pretty happy with the way we played."
skinner on his game: "i thought it was okay. i didn't really do too much. i don't think i was a big factor in the game tonight, and that's okay. i'm going to get better from that, and move on." Image
skinner on the kopitar winner: "not too sure why they were dumping the puck in like that, then it goes off a stick, right on his tape, doesn't bounce off it, gets a nice shot off, goal and we're out of there."
skinner on if it wasn't a routine night in terms of the bounces on goals the kings scored: "that's very fair. third period, the game before, just really tough bounces were happening. that's not saying it leaked into tonight, they're just getting some good puck luck right now. we've also had our fair share of puck luck. that's how hockey works sometimes. puck luck wasn't on my side tonight."
skinner on if his mentality manging highs and lows are good for this time of year: "exactly. games like this where, again, you feel like the universe is against you, and the puck is just not working well for you and all these things, it's a part of like. i'm sure we've all had those feelings before. it's part of playoffs, too. i'm sure i'll feel this again at some point. i mean, i hope i get to feel this again at some point, if we get on a stretch here. the take away from tonight is just wash it out. i know who i am, i know my game, and i'm going to get back to work."
skinner on if bad bounce goals are easier or harder to stomach for a goalie: "talking to you guys right now, 15 minutes after a game, it's a little frustrating. but give me an hour, and i'll be alright."
skinner on the fiala goal: "i think it reached me clean. to be honest, i couldn't see a thing. i think byfield did a great job, and i think that their whole team does a really good job in general getting traffic, and that's an amazing lesson learned for me for the rest of the series that they're going to do that. that's a really good spot for me, where i get to enjoy learning that lesson tonight."
knoblauch on holloway's game: "he played really well tonight, i was really happy with him. he's skating and the confidence of him shooting the puck. the catch and the release is something he's worked on a tremendous amount in the past two years here, and it's paying off. he played a really good game."Image
knoblauch on how much there is to clean up for the oilers: "i think a lot there is to clean up. we didn't get the puck out on the first goal against, beat up on the backcheck and they are a good team, they're going to get chances. but i felt that we were giving them some opportunities i don't think we needed to."
knoblauch on the oilers' quality of play from game one to game two: "i think probably the biggest thing was we didn't generate as many chances and i think chances just being able to move the puck out better and catch them on line changes, stuff like that. usually, i have a feeling after the game, then when i'm watching it it's never as good as i thought, and it's never as bad as i thought. i'll reserve that judgment for later."
knoblauch on if he ever thought about pulling skinner: "no i didn't."
knoblauch on the oilers carrying the puck into the offensive zone less, dumping it in more in game two vs. game one: "i think a lot of the times it was the timing of the game. a lot of the times (monday) night, we had fresh guys when those situations arose where we were able to turn those pucks up right away. a lot of times tonight, when that happened, we were changing. if we're changing, we can get the puck in, but nobody to forecheck. they were able to get in their formation a lot more because of situations like that."
knoblauch on if he got an explanation for the missed too many men on the call ice: "they did have six guys on the ice. the guy who was coming on the ice, and the guy who was going off had nothing to do with the play. it was the right call from what i saw."
a few quotes were cut short so i couldn't catch them all, but knoblauch had expressed confidence in stuart skinner's game, saying he was expecting a bounce back performance from him.

henrique: "i liked the way we came out. played with some desperation early on, try to impose our will on them in that first period. i thought we did a good job there and that's just something we need to be able to carry over for 60 minutes."
henrique on his playoff experience, being versatile in the lineup: "yeah, i mean it's been a while, but it's certainly nice to be back in the playoffs. since coming here, a lot of people have talked about the atmosphere, and i think until you experience that playoff atmosphere here, it's hard to explain and understand what it's really like. that was exciting to be a part of, and the fans were great tonight. certainly a lot of fun playing out there."
henrique on his game, what's leading to his success with mcdavid and hyman: "just confidence. those guys, they make it easy. i think for me, the bottom line is just go out and work, and go play hockey and not really worry about the end result. playing with those guys certainly makes it easy out there. just trying to fill in all over the ice, support those guys and make plays."

perry: "we had quite a few regulars out tonight, but i thought the first half of the first period we were just standing around watching them, and they were skating around us making plays. but after that, it's all about work and we battled hard. it's just one of those games where the way you start just wasn't there."
perry on the mindset entering this game: "it's not easy replacing six guys that play over 18, 20 minutes a night. i thought we battled hard. they're a great team, they had their full lineup, they're ready for their playoff mode and they came out hard."
perry on it almost being like a pre-season game, what the goal of it is: "it's just about good habits, just working hard, keeping it simple. it's not the easist thing to do, but we're all professional here. we're all nhl players, and i thought after that first period, our game came alive. we started skating, and we started to play with the puck a little more."

mcdavid on joining orr, gretzky and lemieux: "it means a lot. those three, obviously, are three of the greatest players to ever play, and to share a little something with them means a lot to me. i'm just thankful for my teammates, the staff here in edmonton, the coaches and everything. i feel very grateful for our staff here in edmonton, and our players here. it's been a different type of year, but everyone has stuck with it and we've put ourselves in a good position heading into when it matters most."
mcdavid on the assist coming on a hyman goal: "zach and i have played lots together, and he's had such an incredible year. we both benefited from playing with each other, and i guess it was fitting."
mcdavid on when the milestone set in for him: "you know, for me, it always sets in when you hear the crowd and you hear the support from the fans, and the reaction from your teammates. i would say that, too. to see the reception from my teammates, that's i guess when it sets in."

holland: "what i like about the deal is we are adding two players. both are versatile, one shoots right and can pla right-wing, center, both can penalty kill, adam shoots left and can play left-wing or center. maybe he trys right wing. i think we got some versatility, some depth. i felt we got deeper. the importance of penalty kill come playoff time, the importance of centers come playoff time, the importance of depth come playoff time were all factors in the decision to make the deal."
holland on where henrique/carrick fit in the lineup: "i've talked to kris on an ongoing basis the last couple of days leading up to this, so he's aware we were trying to put this deal together. i haven't exactly talked to him about where he thinks things are going to fit. they're both flying in tonight, they'll both be at practice tomorrow morning, and i'll talk to kris here tonight. i'm looking forward, just like you are, to seeing what he's looking for line combinations."
holland on the oilers have seven centers: "*smiles* somebody said you can never have enough centermen. you like the depth down the middle. this time of the year, teams are making the moves they're making because we're all planning that we'd like to be playing into june. if you'd like to be playing into may and june, you need depth. you're probably going to have some injuries, and you need people to step in. having seven center icemen obviously gives us real good depth down the middle."

hyman: "it's an 82-game season. would you like to play perfect every 10 games, or every stretch? sure. are you going to? probably not. at the same time, we're getting closer to playoffs and we're still fighting for a spot. we have to learn we can't just flip it on and think we're going to win every game in the third period. we have to start on time, you have to play the right way throughout the entire game. we know how to do that, we've proven it this year, so just a matter of getting back to work and sticking with it."
hyman on the oilers not being up for the game: "you say all the right things in the room. everybody's always saying 'we're going to be ready for the first period, we're going to be ready to start.' it's just a matter of going out and doing it. i don't have an answer for you."
hyman on how close it felt like the oilers got to their game tonight: "no."

another q, "you haven't found it at all?" hyman's response: "no. we got it within 3-2, but i didn't feel like we played our best at any point in the game. did you?

"no."

hyman: "then you're watching the same game we're playing. it obviously wasn't a good one."

nugent-hopkins: "we expected a tough game tonight, and they lived up to it for sure. when we needed, we got the saves from picksy and stuck around, played within ourselves, and stayed confident."
nuge on pickard: "i think every time he's stepped in, he's been outstanding for us. the detroit game, he made some huge saves to keep us in and same thing tonight."
nuge: "we've been striving to play ilke this for a long time now. it's about staying around in games, and obviously goalies need to step up and make the big saves when we need them to, and they've been doing a great job of that. i think defensively, we've been solid. it's not trading chances here or there, obviously we have some guys that can open games up, but we don't need to do that every night. it's just staying within ourselves, and trusting the process. i think it's paying off right now."
