mcdavid on joining orr, gretzky and lemieux: "it means a lot. those three, obviously, are three of the greatest players to ever play, and to share a little something with them means a lot to me. i'm just thankful for my teammates, the staff here in edmonton, the coaches and everything. i feel very grateful for our staff here in edmonton, and our players here. it's been a different type of year, but everyone has stuck with it and we've put ourselves in a good position heading into when it matters most." mcdavid on the assist coming on a hyman goal: "zach and i have played lots together, and he's had such an incredible year. we both benefited from playing with each other, and i guess it was fitting."

holland: "what i like about the deal is we are adding two players. both are versatile, one shoots right and can pla right-wing, center, both can penalty kill, adam shoots left and can play left-wing or center. maybe he trys right wing. i think we got some versatility, some depth. i felt we got deeper. the importance of penalty kill come playoff time, the importance of centers come playoff time, the importance of depth come playoff time were all factors in the decision to make the deal." holland on where henrique/carrick fit in the lineup: "i've talked to kris on an ongoing basis the last couple of days leading up to this, so he's aware we were trying to put this deal together. i haven't exactly talked to him about where he thinks things are going to fit. they're both flying in tonight, they'll both be at practice tomorrow morning, and i'll talk to kris here tonight. i'm looking forward, just like you are, to seeing what he's looking for line combinations."

hyman: "it's an 82-game season. would you like to play perfect every 10 games, or every stretch? sure. are you going to? probably not. at the same time, we're getting closer to playoffs and we're still fighting for a spot. we have to learn we can't just flip it on and think we're going to win every game in the third period. we have to start on time, you have to play the right way throughout the entire game. we know how to do that, we've proven it this year, so just a matter of getting back to work and sticking with it." hyman on the oilers not being up for the game: "you say all the right things in the room. everybody's always saying 'we're going to be ready for the first period, we're going to be ready to start.' it's just a matter of going out and doing it. i don't have an answer for you."

nugent-hopkins: "we expected a tough game tonight, and they lived up to it for sure. when we needed, we got the saves from picksy and stuck around, played within ourselves, and stayed confident." nuge on pickard: "i think every time he's stepped in, he's been outstanding for us. the detroit game, he made some huge saves to keep us in and same thing tonight."

foegele: "it starts off with stu keeping us in that game. it honestly could've been a 5-0 after the first two period. he was rock solid. he's been playing unbelieveable. as a group coming into the third, we knew we needed to be better and i thought we were playing quicker, direct and you could see by the pace of play we were playing in the third." foegele on if it's easier for the oilers to correct their game now: "i think in this group, the big message is being calm. we've got great leaders in this room, and i think guys have just been buying into that. that's one thing that has really helped us on this streak."

corey perry and ken holland are meeting with the media in edmonton.

holland: "on late saturday afternoon, i was in calgary for the game against the flames and we agreed to a one-year contract. i was hoping to keep it a secret and have an announcement today, it's getting harder and harder to keep things secret in the world we live in." holland: "in 2019, when corey was bought out by the anaheim ducks, my first year here as the manager of the oilers, i went after corey hard. i've been hot after corey the last few years. i think he's the type of player that every team wants on their team. he has an incredible winning pedigree."

holland: "today has been a very difficult, tough day. woke up this morning, we got in late last night, i called woody, and dave manson and informed them we were making a coaching change... i want to thank them for their contribution over the last two years, they work hard, they're good hockey people, but ultimately, this is a difficult decision. we're in a business where you have to win games." holland: "early on, you figure you're going to turn it around. you're in game three, game four, game five, and as our record started to get worse, jeff and i had been talking on a more than everyday basis... espeically over the last week trying to figure out solutions. i've been on the phone here trying to talk to other teams to see what's out there in terms of trades. when you're 12 games into the season, you've got to have a trading partner."

ken holland speaking to oilers media re: puljujarvi-puistola, how difficult it was to move him: "i called jesse (and his agent) in around two weeks ago... that i would be interested in jesse being part of our team going forward next year that we could not qualify him... holland cont'd: "... based upon a whole lot of things. i told him i was ready to negotiate a one or two year contract extension at a reduced salary probably in the 1's and would they be interested in doing that...

bettman was asked about the oilers hosting all-star games/drafts. bettman said oeg wants the ice district finished before they host these style of events, but the league is looking forward to them in edmonton.

holland on the kassian trade: "i talked to bill armstrong a number of times over the last seven to 10 days. we went through the numbers and it was obvious we had to try and get some cap space and as the draft wore on, bill armstrong swung by me and we picked up a conversation." holland on if he regrets signing the kassian contract: "i guess in life you make the decisions based on the information you got at the time and when the information changes, you have to roll with the punches. there's a number of teams making similar moves around the league...

ken holland says he's been making lots of phone calls, will see what comes of it. holland is expecting to use the oilers' first-round pick at 29 as of right now and that the oilers won't be trading up. holland says he's hoping to have clarity on the evander kane situation before looking at extending him.

"it's unique, it's different. i'm sort of winging it."
