🧵 🇬🇪1) Let’s go through the past 24h in Tbilisi, Georgia. A lot has happened during the night and morning hours. From the result today, we know, this is not the end.
Protesters have gathered for days already, but this night was of particular importance.
Here’s a breakdown :
2) May 13th “The Russian law” is set to be considered in the parliament, it can go into effect tomorrow. Therefore a large protest was planned for people to stay outside of the parliament building during the whole night.
Many bringing sleeping bags, ballgames and music.
🔴 3) 22:00 - the rally in front of parliament was set to begin. Already long before this people were making their way to the center. Including by the subway that was packed long before the planned start.

🔴 4) It didn’t take long for the area of Rustaveli Avenue by the parliament building to be packed with people. The sound of the national anthem was played several times during the night. So was the anthem of EU.
🔴 5) People were dancing, playing ballgames and all and all keeping the spirits high during the night.
🔴 6) For seven hours straight during the night, there was not a single incident; those gathered sang, danced, some students were holding appeals and prepared for bigger speeches.

🔴7) 2:30am the weather was less then pleasant but neither the rain nor the cold winds seem to bother the protester who all seem to have come well prepared for that as well. Several people were handing out snacks, hot drinks and water in many areas. Video: zjavakhadze jamnews
🔴 8) Speakers at the rally in front of the Georgian parliament were holding appeals stating that the majority of people would start to arrive around 4-5 a.m. and even more people at 9. The aim was always to be there when the parliament workers arrive to the square.
🔴 9) At around 4am in the morning the sighting of large busses of special forces on Freedom Square began to appear, at the same time the police began to converge on the upper entrance to parliament.

🔴 10) Around sunrise, the leaders of the rally called on the protesters to go to the upper entrance to parliament.
Where the special forces was already shaping up en mass.
🔴 11) 05:37 The Ministry of Internal Affairs demanded that the protesters clear the entrances so that deputies could pass through.
At Freedom Square to Rustaveli Avenue some of the protesters stand in front of the special forces and chant “Long live Georgia.” 🥹✊🏻🇬🇪
🔴12) From Rustaveli Avenue many of the opposition leaders also joined in among them:Giorgi Vashadze (Agmashenebeli Strategy), Aleko Elisashvili (Citizens), Nika Melia (Akhali), Sopho Japaridze (UNM - Saakashvili’s representative), Sergo Chikhladze (Lelo), Elene Khoshtaria (Droa)
🔴13) Around 06:00, police and special forces began to violently push protesters out of the upper streets and cleared the upper entrance.
🔴14) From Freedom Square, special forces are moving very slowly, literally centimeters at a time.
🔴15) 06:50 people are detained. Near the Parliament some protester were even pulled out, and at some point the police seem to be competing on who can do the most damage. It’s not only disturbing, this is like taken out of the russian playbook of "law & order"

🇬🇪 World, are you still watching? Tonight might have just been the biggest gathering of Georgians marching in Tbilisi against the russian violations and law infiltrating the Georgian government! Please watch, share, stand with the brave people of Georgia!🇬🇪 #NoToRussianlaw
1/14: May 8th day of remembrance Honoring those we lost in World War II.
We remember the promise "Never again."
The promise we broke.
We’re here in a war torn Europe where one nation is fighting for everyone against an aggression who have declared being at war with us all
2/14: russias illegal and brutal invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2014, is a chilling reminder that history's lessons can all too fast be forgotten. We see the images today, that our grandparents told us about. Images we only saw in history books. Now we are living them.
3/14 As we reflect on the millions of lives lost in WWII. One question will always be running in my mind: how did we let this happen again? From 1991 we’ve seen the russian aggression invade, destroy life & land in Georgia, Moldova/Transnistria, Ukraine, not to mention Chechnya.
1/24🧵 32 Ukrainian media representatives are currently held captive in russia. Since the full scale invasion of Ukraine it’s been recorded that russia has committed more than 567 crimes on journalists in Ukraine.
Here’s a thread about how russia targets ukranian media.
2/24: According to international humanitarian law, journalists are protected civilians during armed conflict. Violations of this constitute war crimes under the Geneva Conventions & the Rome Statute.
3/24: All journalists & media professionals, have extensive legal protections under international humanitarian law. But as we’ve seen again and again, russia don’t care about any of these laws which makes it even more vital that they are held accountable for these crimes.
🧵 1) Girlpower on the Ukrainian military front: The creation of the first ever Female UAV Military Unit pioneering unmanned aviation in Ukraine's Defense Forces.
This announcement is perfect timing to look into the history and some of the incredible women fighting for Ukraine.
2)Before the russia's full-scale invasion 30000 women served in the Ukrainian armed forces. Representing 15-25% of the UA army and one of the largest shares
among European countries. Now, more than 59,000 women are serving. 41,000 are military personnel & 19,000 civilian workers.
3) As of June 22.2023, Female UA soldiers makes significant contributions in various military branches:
• UA Ground Forces 16000+ women
• UA Air Force: 7000+ women
• UA Navy: ~2000 women
• UA Air Assault Forces: ~1000 women
• UA Territorial Defence Forces: 3000+ women
Who’s ready for a history lesson on “life during war” by a European chick with a degree in entertainment that has spent the last few years working in a warzone?
No offense America, I’m targeting this narrative, not you. Let’s be smart & share some knowledge.
2) It seems to be hard for certain individuals, to grasp that people are still able to live in a country at war.
Which is fascinating in itself, because what do you think the Ukrainians have actually been fighting for this whole time?
Hint; to live normally in their own country.
2) First, let’s start by again illustrate the size of Ukraine.
Then let’s not ignore the rules here. Curfew is currently from: 00.00-05.00 in Kyiv and areas away from the frontline. Secondly, if air raids go off. Life stops. Everyone should take shelter. At any time, every time.
🧵1/23 This is a long thread, but I want this to serve as a clear & informative reminder of exactly what russia is doing and how it is creating a huge risk for all of us to suffer the same dire consequences, if we fail to collectively take immediate actions in supporting Ukraine.
2/23 Ukraine is currently enduring some of the worst attacks by russia since the start of russias illegal full scale invasion. The aggressor continues their inhumane actions, targeting critical infrastructure, civilian communities and first responders.
3/23 The UN OHCHR verified over 10,810 civilian deaths and 20,550 injuries since Feb 2022. But we all know the actual numbers are much higher, given that russia does not give access to outside organization to enter occupied areas and account for the actual numbers.
