1/ The illusion of genocide is one of control. Genocide requires intent and planning. It was defined as the most "modern" of international crimes, reflecting sovereign decision making and a systemic mindset. Genocide is perceived as an expression of centralized strength. --->
2/ The Israeli genocide in Gaza, however, seems to expand in markedly different fashion. Israel is literally out of control. The political leadership has split into warring factions. Netanyahu and the religious right are fighting the former generals leading the "center". --->
3/ And while support for the "war" remains broad among Israeli Jews, words are losing their meaning. When Netanyahu and his cohorts talk about "destroying Hamas" they are actually advocating for an Israeli occupation of Gaza and the "removal" of the Gazans. --->
4/ When Galant and Gantz talk about "plans for the day after (the end of the "war")", they are talking about Israel retreating from Gaza, leaving the desolation for others to rebuild, and preserving the right to "raid" Gaza wheneve Israel deems it necessary. --->
5/ In both cases Israel rejects (denies, actually) the very notion of accountability. In both cases Gazans receive no reprieve from Israel's lethal force. Still, the debate itself demonstrates the degree to which Israeli control and authority have deteriorated. --->
6/ This reflects on the military. Over the past several days Israeli forces have made several lethal mistakes in the field, after "returning" the refugee camps of Gaza city. At least 8 Israeli soldiers have been killed by friendly fire. This is not random. --->
7/ Israeli military leadership is losing control over forces in the field. Battalion and brigade commanders do just about whatever the want, from killing aid workers to bombing humanitarian centers and ultimately to firing haphazardly and killing their own men. --->
8/ Israeli soldiers have no "real" military "achievements" in Gaza. They cannot rescue the hostages. They cannot defeat Hamas. The Israeli military has been soundly defeated. Senior IDF command still has tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of soldiers at its disposal.
9/ These soldiers have nothing to do but "raid". Such raids are meaningless against a physically entrenched organization like Hamas. Israel cannot destroy Hamas subterranean infrastructure. Bored soldiers, armed to the teeth, are on a rampage reminiscent of Sherman's march. --->
10/ The longer Israel stays in Gaza, and remember that Netanyahu and his supporters want to stay indefinitely, the greater the chaos and loss of control. Israeli leadership encourages the chaos. Israel can argue before the ICJ that no genocidal orders have been given. --->
11/ That is of no consequence. There is a direct relation between the intensity of the chaos and the intensity of the genocide. The Israeli genocide grows not through control and central planning but through the leveraging of a threatened political axiom- Jewish supremacy. --->
12/ All political players in Israel are stoking fear and breeding hatred. The basic object of hatred is the Palestinians but the sad truth is that their deaths are completey absent from Israeli discourse. Nobody cares. The dehumanization is utter and complete. --->
13/ A society built on dehumanization dehumanizes itself. The warring factions within Israel now view each other as less than human. Israel is dismantling itself. We are all the worst, full of passionate intensity. We are the rough beast, slouching toward Bethlehem.

1/ Trump is not just "corrupt". Netanyahu is not simply pursuing a "greater Israel". This state of affairs does not boil down to "ulterior forces" or "the grand game". The grand game itself was and remains corrupt. The new evil simply doesn't care. --->
2/ When you look at Trump and list all those to whom he is beholden in an attempt to predict his actions, I think you are missing the point. The same goes for Netanyahu. In their minds, their very presence is its reward, true greatness for Israel and the US. --->
3/ The way of the world for them both is headbutting (for Trump) or outweaseling (for Netanyahu). The only mark of virtue is that they emerge on top. If the do, their countries are by necessity on top as well. And, of course, they are each other's chief targets. --->

1/ There are two very different ways to consider Israel at the moment. The first is as a bird of prey poised to strike. Israel continues to kill Palestinians, to bomb its neighbors without provocation and to obstruct a deal in Gaza. It seems self-explanatory, right? --->
2/ The second is to see Israel as besieged and teetering. It isn't "the world" that is besieging us. It is reality. When we bomb in Syria and in Lebanon, we are not preparing for occupation. We are displaying our lack of faith in our ability to defend our own borders. --->
3/ We use violence to maintain our solipsism. "Don't come near us and all shall be well". Our lack of faith is justified. We find ourselves constantly having to up the ante in order to simply stay in the game. Nobody wants to play with us so we impose like the bullies we are. -->

1/ Israel's bluff is being called from Gaza to Beirut, by way of Damascus and Riyadh. In inverse order: the rollout of the Arab plan for Gaza will force Israel to choose an actual path forward. I'm betting on Netanyahu frowning for a bit and then accepting the plan. --->
2/ Syrians have begun to notice Israel's presence on their southern border. Damascus is allowing the protest to grow organically without picking a fight. When the time comes (soon) the new leadership will seek international support for Israeli withdrawal. --->
3/ It will receive this support. Beirut, on the other hand, seems to be ignoring Israel's presence completely. That is a smart move. Israel is overextended. As our government attempts to return displaced Israeli to the north it is generating only disbelief. --->

1/ I doubt the evil stunt Hamas pulled with the Bibas family will disrupt the release of Palestinians and Israelis on Saturday. I am inundated with Israeli social media calls for the eradication of the Palestinians. I am not impressed. Nothing has essentially changed. --->
2/ Making the Palestinians disappear was always the Israeli fantasy. We killed and cleansed them in 1948. In 1967 we realized we didn't have to physically drive them out - we could repress every aspect of their being, subjugating them and dehumanizing them. --->
3/ We just didn't talk about it that much. Most of us have never visited the West Bank. We outsourced Zionism to these "pioneers". We focused on our other fantasy - being perceived and perceiving ourselves as "normal". Normals don't oppress, so mum's the word! --->

1/ The return of the dead hostages marks Israel's complete divestment of any responsibility it may hold for anything that has happened in Gaza since 7.10.23. Israel always needs an excuse, proof that it is superior to the "animals" on the other side. We have it now. --->
2/ The poor Bibas family, taken criminally by Hamas and killed criminally be unrestrained bombing (justified by most Israelis), are the "proof". "Only animals kidnap children", we cry as thousands of Palestinian children lie beneath the rubble we've left of Gaza. --->
3/ This is not a day for maintaining the fiction of dialogue. There are very few partners for dialogue. Today is a day for affirmation. Life cannot be redeemed by death. Life is the stark opposite of death. Death is the isolator. Life includes within it all other life. --->

1/ There's no reason to trust Israel further than it can be thrown, but there is good reason to observe it closely. Israel is floundering. Netanyahu allows his underlings, from the frothing settler at Finance to the braying fool at Defense, to spout off at the mouth. --->
2/ He, however, commits to the "Trump Plan" with the full knowledge that there is no Trump plan. Meanwhile, as Arab leaders struggle to formulate a plan of their own, the Israel-Hamas agreement continues to happen. Everyone is waiting for the maligned Qataris to take charge. --->
3/ The contours of the deal are known. Hamas will dissolve itself as a distinct entity. Its leaders will be incorporated into the PLO. The PA will take effective control of Gaza but will be chaperoned by Gulf money (not clear if Qatari or Saudi: the Emiratis could care less). -->
