We had a very special arrival today. Little Stella was released from the vets.
She’s had an incredibly hard start in life and is only 8 months old.
She doesn’t understand yet but Stella is making huge progress.
Her future will be bright… (1/7) 🧵
Stella is a street dog who had string tied around her neck when a younger puppy. As she grew it’s been cutting into her. We luckily managed to catch her.
The vets have been treating her under sedation as she’s extremely snappy and protective because of the pain (2/7)
The vets have done incredible work cleaning her up. The string is gone and the wound cleaned. But she couldn’t stay there forever. We had to obviously take her back as she can’t go back alone. This is where the hard part starts… (3/7)
Stella came into the land. She’s very very scared and tried to bite the vets, Sybille and myself. She can’t be touched at all right now. Obviously we can’t sedate her like the vet did either. We had to secure her in Derek’s old suite and get a plan together (4/7)
Obviously none of this is Stella’s fault. She’s just terrified and never had good interactions with humans.
We can get her medicines into her food and she is eating and drinking well. The wound will heal with time. The hard part is cleaning it (5/7)
We have to improvise in these situations. She literally wants to snap our hands off right now. We have a technique where I distract her with a little towel and someone else cleans as best we can.
Im sure people will suggest muzzles, sedating her etc etc. We often have to come up with solutions on the go. It’s not easy being in a very small space with a dog who absolutely wants to bite you at all costs. We got her wound cleaned, suite cleaned out with fresh bedding, food and water in and out etc. she’s starting to adjust but she has been through so much (6/7)
By the end of the day I’d built up the courage to sit with her. You’ll see a very different dog in 2-3 months time but this won’t be easy.
We’ll win little Stella over with patience, love, treats, medicine and making her feel safe.
You can do it Stella 🥰🙏 (7/7)

OREO said he wanted to thank everybody for their support.
At many times over the last 2 weeks we didn’t think he would make it but today he was able to check out for his next stage of recovery
He’s put us all through massive anxiety but OREO lives 🙏🙏
(1/6) 🧵
When he collapsed that first morning I was sure he was done. I’ve seen enough dogs die and the signs for him and his blood was horrific. In my own head I didn’t give him more than 1% chance of living. But getting him the blood transfusions and oxygen saved his life (2/6)
After 9 days in the vets OREO came to the land but I still wasn’t super hopeful. We had to make the decision to take him out of the vets with the bill at $2000. OREO was going to have to use his body and medicines to fight the battle. Luckily he was up for it… (3/6)
A little Super Mario story that will leave you beaming with happiness.
He’s been recovering since he was attacked and today this brave little boy wanted to show off a new trick… (1/5) 🧵
Mario had been so badly beaten up by a human he had a broken leg, bruising all over and several other injuries. We got him all fixed up at the hospital and he’s back with us.
He was in so much pain but I can’t believe how he’s bouncing back…(2/5)
He comes on walks with me and all the dogs every single day. This is his new trick…
When his little legs get too tired he now knows how to hop up on the scooter. The smartest little boy there ever was (3/5)
Mr OREO wanted to give you an update. He says after a couple of very hectic weeks in his life today he is starting to feel like his old self for the first time in a long long time (1/5) 🧵
After nearly dying, 2 blood transfusions, oxygen tanks and some very worrying days he is still alive and recovering.
He says in retrospect his big escape yesterday wasn’t his best idea. It tired him out and set him back a day. But he’s happy today he says (2/5)
The biggest clue is in OREO’s gums. You can see how white they were with anemia on the 4th May. That was him close to death. I just took the pic here before bed and they are lovely and pink. A sign he is on the way back fully (3/5)
Today was probably the most stressful day I’ve ever had rescuing dogs.
We’ve battled so hard to bring OREO back from death’s door.
Yesterday he started improving but this morning I woke up to the worst message imaginable… (1/8) 🧵
Those who follow me know he barely survived the last 2 weeks. A mixture of anemia, blood parasites and tick fever nearly killed him. Only 2 blood transfusions and the oxygen and lots of meds saved him. I didn’t even share him the first week as I thought he die (2/8)
Last night was the first day I knew he’d make it. He was getting healthier. He would however need medicines twice a day and lots of food, water and rest. Without his medicines OREO would slip back and go downhill fast.
I put him in his spot for a big sleep last night (3/8)
I’ve a little bit of good news from a very very good boy today. Oreo has had a really fantastic day and for the first time in 2 weeks I think he’s going to survive…
There’s a lot of good signs but the eyes are the main one…
(1/4) 🧵
His gums are getting some colour back in them. You can see his whole demeanor has changed. They were short little walks and he tires quickly but this is a dog who hit rock bottom but is now clearly starting to bounce back. (2/4)
OREO is a street dog but he’s fed by 2 lovely locals. Mark and Nopps. They found him ill and brought him in ill to me.
You can see the love going both ways here. I think just like a sick human getting a visit this was a big lift for him today (3/4)
This is Stella. She’s only 8 months old but as you can see from her eyes she has the weight of the world on her little shoulders.
Shes had a very hard start in life but that all started to change today (1/7) 🧵
We got a message about her last night. All we knew was she had a neck injury we couldn’t see much from the video. When we got there she was totally impossible to catch. We couldn’t even get within 10 yards of her. But then we got a very lucky break… (2/7)
Stella ran into a villa under construction which had walls all around it. We had her totally cornered. We could also see that her wound was very serious with something tied around her neck. She would try to bite us anytime we got close (3/7)
