Zelensky invites the world to join him in Switzerland for the peace summit?

Over 60 countries confirmed, but will Biden attend?

Zelensky offers 3 points for the summit

1. Free navigation
2. Nuclear and energy security
3. Exchange of captives and return of deported children 1/
Ukraine wants to show imitative in loving towards peace

Zelensky has 10 points peace plan which includes restoring the 1991 borders. But not everyone is on board with that. Some say it is unrealistic. Others argue Russia won’t agree to that. 2/
So, for Switzerland Zelensky goes with something everyone can get behind

Don’t steal children! Zelensky wants Russia to return illegally deported children. He also asks for exchange of all captured people on both sides.

Sounds reasonable, but will Russia agree? 3/
Next, nuclear and energy security. Both countries have been imposing significant damage on each other’s infrastructure. Russia started first and Ukraine retaliates. Both sides see where it is going - nowhere. So, it makes sense to stop. 4/
This infrastructure tit for tat attacks are important. If parties can agree to stop, that’s a step forward toward armistice. It is a testing ground. 5/
Next, free navigation this is important for the food security in the region. 6/
But how can we get Russia to agree to anything if it is not invited?

Ukraine e is trying to get the U.S., India and China to play a big role at the summit. 7/
If Ukraine succeeds and everyone, including Asia and Global South get behind the three points, it will create pressure on Russia. Especially if these crucial other countries support 8/
So, the move is smart for Ukraine. But let’s see if it works out. 9/
I think it is good that Ukrainians show initiative and offer tangible first steps for peace without sacrificing territory or demonstrating weakness. I hope it works. I hope something positive happens. It has been long overdue. 10X

First, Ukraine President Zelensky. Now, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman McCaul!

They demand Biden administration finally lets Ukraine strike Russia on its territory.

It gets personal too. 1/ Image
McCaul says it is Sullivan behind the flawed policy 2/
Just recently Zelensky said that he has asked Sullivan and Blinken to let strike Russians gathering just across the border to attack.

But the U.S. says no. 3/

A pair of wagtails built a nest at the Kyiv School of economics, right next to a ping pong table and a basketball ring

The birds appear not to be afraid of loud students and faculty, but they are happy that rats and cats can’t make it to the nest on a metal poll 1/
There are five nestlings. They are quiet for most of the time. But when a parent comes with a worm, they get really loud competing for attention. 2/ Image
Both parents fly and search for worms all the time. We have never seen in the nest sleeping. I don’t know if they do.

Each brings a worm and feeds just own nestling. I am curious how they rotate over them 3/ Image

Zelensky to NYTimes. Key points.

1. The U.S. policy of no strikes on Russia

Zelensky: I have asked Blinken, I have asked Sullivan, I have asked everyone … let’s us strike Russians when they gather at the border to attack us.

1/ Image
Russians put their artillery just across the border and hit our civilians. We can’t respond with the U.S. weapons because the U.S. prohibits us. 2/
We watch Russian amassing troops together, which will strike us tomorrow, and can do nothing 3/

Blackout in Kyiv

We now get electricity only some hours of the day. I took this picture tonight, my part of city is dark

Fortunately, we installed home batteries in 2022

But still getting him is pitch black is freaky. I am scared for the first 15 minutes, but quickly adapt 1/ Image
I drove home and don’t notice my building and the park around was in dark. I only realized it in my garage. Getting out was not difficult, I simply turned the phone light on 2/
But then I wanted to go for a walk in the park. I usually do it at night before going to sleep. It helps me relax and put a difficult day and war worries behind me I put music on and forget about the world walking around trees 3/

Zelensky says the West doesn’t want Ukraine to win. His words are careful, but the meaning is clear.

He talks about the U.S. fear of Russia loosing and thus preventing Ukraine from winning

But the implication is simple - the war will go on 1/

Indeed, if Ukraine gets just enough support not to lose, Russia will be tempted to keep trying. Until Putin dies! 2/
Some might argue it is not true and U.S. is doing all it can to help Ukraine, but it is not easy. There are elections, a dysfunctional Congress etc

True, but not. That’s not the reason for why the aid to Ukraine is delayed, limited, and restricted in use 3/

The international media amplify Beijing's message: Putin and Xi are united

But what about the war in Ukraine? When asked, Putin signaled a desire to negotiate. Many saw this as a sign that his Kharkiv offensive is a bargaining tactic. Nothing could be further from the truth 1/ Image
While in China, Putin didn’t speak about the war directly, but replied to one, just one question about it

So, let’s be careful to avoid putting unwarranted significance to this messaging 2/
As always, Putin claimed he is open to negotiations and blamed the West for refusing to talk.

The gullible audience took Putin at his word., again. They say this is evidence that he wants peace and that the recent escalation in Kharkiv is just a bargaining tactic. 2/
