This is Jocko Willink.

He teaches people to harden the f*ck up.

He was a Navy Seal, then sold 500,000+ copies of his book "Extreme Ownership."

Here are 11 of his insights that rewired my brain to do hard things (and will do the same for you): Image
“Discipline equals freedom.”

• Craving the easy life is how you get a hard life

• Discipline leads to hard mode

• Hard mode leads to consistency

• Consistency leads to results

• Results lead to wisdom

Wisdom = Freedom
“There is no growth in the comfort zone.”

• If it doesn't hurt there's no point

• Unless you had to suffer you won't value it

• Comfort just leads to boredom which creates hidden pain

Discomfort = Growth
“People do not follow robots.”

• This explains social media perfectly

• Humans crave emotion. To be a leader in any field or online, make people feel.
"When the alarm goes off, do you get up out of bed, or do you lie there in comfort & fall back to sleep?"

• Not getting straight up is a sign

• A good life is one you can't wait to wake up & live

• If life sucks then force yourself to change
"The easy path leads downhill [off a cliff]."

• Easy leads to average

• Average people rely on the government, have no money, are unhealthy & get laid off.

Choose hard. Be weird.
"Don't worry about motivation"

It is unreliable & when you are counting on motivation to get your goals accomplished, you will likely fall short."

• Habits backed by systems require zero motivation

• When you're obsessed instead of piss-weak passionate it's easy to start
"Didn't get promoted? Good. More time to get better."

• Missing out is how you learn

• Sometimes the promotion doesn't happen because you're being taken advantage of

Get better. Go where you're valued.
"I guarantee if you get up in the morning and you work out, and you work hard, you will have a better day."

• Exercise is mandatory for a good life

• Early risers get a headstart on the day

• You have the most energy in the morning. Don't f*cking waste it
“Stop researching every aspect of it and reading all about it and debating the pros and cons of it … Start doing it.”

• Research is ma$turbation in disguise
• Stop overthinking
• Stop procrastinating

Most decisions are reversible. Regrets aren't.
“Don’t fight stress. Embrace it. Turn it on itself. Use it to make yourself sharper & more alert

Use it to make you think and learn and get better and smarter and more effective."

• Stress makes you better

• Stress is sexy

• Stress is pushing your limits

Stress = Growth
“There is no easy way

There is only hard work, late nights, early mornings, practice, rehearsal, repetition, study, sweat, blood, toil, frustration & discipline”

• Hacks, shortcuts, free advice don't exist

• Your potential won't be easy to unlock

Mental illness = easy mode
Final Thought

It's easy to dismiss Jocko as a psycho

He has a bizarre view of the world

But in a time when victimhood is everywhere, his message is one we need to hear

There is no easy. Life is hard

The sooner we accept that the faster we reduce the mental illness epidemic

Jerry Seinfeld once said:

"Fall in love with the torture you're comfortable with."

Here are 11 things I learned from him: Image
"The extreme left and P.C. crap are hurting TV comedy."

• Modern society worries too much about offending other people

• We're too easily offended

Comedy is philosophy in disguise.

It lets us use jokes to understand both sides of an argument. It makes us smarter.
"You have to motivate yourself with challenges. That's how you know you're still alive"

• Comedy is a challenge cause we're forced to try & get laughs & risk getting none

• If you don't take a risk you'll be doing the same boring sh*t forever

Lack of challenge = Stagnation

Finding Paul Graham was critical for my online business journey.

I binged his blog for hours and applied many of his tips to my business.

Here are the top 11 business strategies I learned from Paul Graham: Image
"There are plenty of smart people who get nowhere."

That's why MBAs don't mean sh*t.

• Gain experience by starting a business
• Expect the first few businesses to fail
• Focus on learning the hard way
"It's hard to do a really good job on anything you don't think about in the shower."

1. This is how you know what idea to chase

2. The best business ideas are problems that piss you off

I'm obsessed with how to learn anything faster.

So, I spent the last 2 years studying how Richard Feynman thinks about learning.

Here’s what I found on becoming a learning machine: Image
"If you cannot explain something in simple terms, you don't understand it."

This is why experts and PhDs are overrated.

Memorization & following the rules aren't learning.

Yet this is how society works.

Controversial scientist Richard Feynman makes it easy with these 4 steps
Step 1: Study an obsession

Otherwise you won't have the energy, focus, time, and motivation to go deep enough.

F*ck passion.

• Study your obsession daily
• Schedule it in your calendar

Carl Jung once said:

"Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge."

Here are 11 things I learned from him: Image
1. “Where your fear is, there is your task”

This is why the work-life balance & self-care movements help people become losers.

Discomfort is where the opportunity is

Find what you fear & look it in the eyes

...otherwise you become mediocre and the rewards are terrible.
How to apply it:

• Figure out what you fear
• Set challenges to face the fear

As you face more fears, your confidence increases

Jordan Peterson's work will change your life forever.

His lectures take 100s of hours to watch. I've gone through them so you don't have to.

11 ideas. 11 opportunities to upgrade your mind. Image
Jordan Peterson is the most controversial man alive.

• Some like him, some think he’s the devil

• The people to learn from are those you disagree with

• He'll break you out of your comfort bubble. Some of his ideas are great. Others are terrible.

His best ideas are below.
“Don’t be a slave to stupid rules.”

1. We're easier to control with more stupid rules

2. Most rules are useless because there’s always people that can get around them

Instead, challenge the rules.
