Introducing National Service. Wondering how it will improve your or your child’s future?
Here are the five things you need to know 👇
🧵 1/6
Every 18-year-old will get the choice of how they do their National Service.
Deciding to either serve their country in the Armed Forces or serve their community by volunteering.
2/6
This bold new model will open up a world of opportunity.
It will make sure young people in the UK get the same chance in life as their peers in allies like Sweden, Norway, Denmark and France - which have all recently introduced or announced new forms of national service.
3/6
Everyone will get the life-changing chance to learn from the best of the best - from the men and women of our Armed Forces, our inspirational NHS staff or the fire service.
Gaining skills for life in everything from cyber to leadership.
4/6
The Covid pandemic showed the value of civic service to individuals and our country as a whole.
By building on this spirit of community, this bold action will enable young people to give back to the communities that raised them.
5/6
This clear plan is costed in full through clamping down on tax avoidance and through funding previously used for the Shared Prosperity Fund.
Meaning that we’ll deliver National Service without raising a single tax and on top of our commitment to spend 2.5% of GDP on Defence by 2030.

Anti-social behaviour is more than just a nuisance - it ruins communities.
In March we launched an Action Plan to stamp it out, making our streets safer and building a better future for our children and grandchildren – and it’s working.
Action taken so far 👇🧵
❌ From 8 November nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, will be illegal.
We won't tolerate intimidation on our streets, or children’s play areas being littered with empty nitrous oxide canisters.
✅ We’ve provided over 30,000 hours of extra uniformed police patrols in ‘hotspot’ areas.
That’s on top of delivering our 2019 commitment to recruit 20,000 more police officers across England and Wales.
This week I took long-term decisions to build a brighter future and change our country.
This change will:
🏘️ Transform our towns
🚆 Boost our transport
📚 Improve our education
🚭 Reduce cancer deaths
Here’s how👇
On Sunday, I slammed the brakes on anti-motorist measures.
For many, our car is a lifeline. We use them to get to work or see our family.
But too often drivers feel under attack.
Our new plan will put drivers back in the driving seat and improve their experience on the road.
Politicians have for too long ignored the real infrastructure needs of our country.
This week I changed that - cancelling the rest of HS2 and reinvesting every single penny, £36 billion, into hundreds of transport projects in the North, Midlands, and across the country.
