2/ Gekko asks Charlie Sheen's character Bud Fox, "Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you Buddy?" Then Gekko boasts how he creates and builds nothing yet is still part of an elite 1% that controls most of America's wealth and makes the rules.
3/ On Memorial Day Weekend we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. They believed or were told they were going to war not for the "free market" but freedom itself. Those of us who did not serve are at least obliged as citizens to respect the real principles of freedom. 
4/ Donald Trump, his enablers, fellow crony capitalists, as well as the privileged apparatchiks in the GOP view those who served as props and "suckers" to impose their will on the rest of America who actually do the work, create, build and have honest sweat equity in our society.
5/ What many of these apparatchiks and oligarchs don't realize is THEY are the true suckers. You see folks, none of what these elites do is about entrepreneurial capitalism or competing to provide products and services to consumers in a way that benefits society. It never was.
6/ It's about power and privilege. Securing their power and
privilege essentially requires legalized theft and viceroys in the levels of power to transfer assets from those with sweat equity so a Donald Trump and his ilk can buy sexual favors from porn stars and luxurious homes.

7/ What emerges among this den of depraved dilettantes like Trump is a punch down kiss up culture. They're competing amongst themselves for who has the most wealth, manipulating or pandering to elites higher on their golden food chains while keeping those below in their place.
8/ The Trump's of the world are able to buy, persuade or cajole enough minions to kiss up or punch down for them. I see this on a daily basis in my work in Financial Crimes Compliance.

9/ Sometimes the minion is a bank relationship manager or lending officer. Sometimes it's Michael Cohen. A pyramid scheme of suckers kissing up and punching down. Donald Trump right now is simultaneously kissing up to those with more money, bribing oil execs AND threatening them.
10/ National Socialism, Soviet communism, Putin's Russia or Chinese communism today has the same ethos. Industrial elites under Hitler, despite all his pro worker rhetoric were co-opted and bought off. They could have their wealth as long as they accepted Hitler as dictator.
11/ So they hide behind this money wall constantly scheming new ways to distract the "rabble" erecting even more secure luxury fortresses for themselves, kissing up, punching down and stabbing their fellow elites in the back. A kind of psychosis develops amongst these elites.
12/ This psychosis is a unique blend of hubris, complacency, narcissm & paranoia. I could be the last one standing. I can be absolute ruler. But who's out to get me? Who's stealing what I've stolen? Who knows what I've stolen? Why does that billionaire have a sexier wife than me?
13/ In that respect Trump is really no different than his peers. His psychosis is no different than the Pillow Guy, Elon Musk, Michael Flynn, the mullahs of Iran, Putin etc. What separated Trump was he had a reality TV show to amplify his celebrity.
14/ Hence, his narcissm, hubris, complacency and paranoia psychosis metastasized. He's threatened by billionaires he has to beg for money to stay in the game and always terrified the rabble will learn he's a fat ugly dude with a small flaccid penis and shrinking bank account.
15/ In this kiss up, punch down world of elite thieves who hire the equivalent of plantation overseers to defend their status, we are viewed by them as the pawns. But actually we get what's going on more than they do.
16/ These wealthy sad sacks who need to either kiss up or dominate to survive don't figure out their "zero sum game" is a fool's errand until Putin has them pushed off a building or the Chinese communists place a tycoon who got too big into a rehabilitation labor camp.
17/ What GOP fascists are attempting to consolidate can be best described as "MAGA Communism." They'll say it's about freedom. Koch Network folks often claim to champion freedom. But just as gangsters kiss up, threaten and punch down to be the ruling regime so do MAGA Communists.
18/ That's the real reason a Nikki Haley says she's "voting" for Trump and the oil execs listen to Trump's bribery even as he threatens him. It's why publications such as the vaunted New York Times and the corp media hedge their bets in their coverage of Trump.
19/ Volkswagen's management wanted to remain privileged and enabled Hitler's Holocaust. Russian oligarchs wanted to enjoy the good life and kissed Putin's ring. CEOs in China thought they could have wealth and freedom under an authoritarian regime. But it doesn't work that way.
20/ Even an oligarch like Elon Musk can't have fascism a la carte. He's a sucker too. If the MAGA Communists take power he's gonna learn the hard way how quickly they'll turn on his ass, incarcerate him and seize his assets.
21/ So with all due respect to Gordon Gekko, I am naive enough to champion democracy. Why? Because We The People know collaboration even as it can be frustrating is more sustainable than domination. When you don't have to kiss up or puch down you're back doesn't get stabbed.
22/ We have the numbers and ability to mobilize behind Four Essential Freedoms:

➡️Freedom of Worship (or not to worship)
➡️Freedom from Want
➡️Freedom from Fear
Thats what it's all about. That's what our soldiers shed blood and died to defend.

23/ @potus could have had a comfortable life in retirement. But he opted instead to serve and strengthen our civic character around an ethos of collaboration to secure the Four Freedoms articulated by FDR on 1/6/41. He doesn't kiss up or punch down. He leads.
24/ We too must do our part. What's needed from us is courageous integrity to defend thy neighbor whether male, female, trans, hetero, homosexual, black, white, Asian, native American, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, rich, poor, etc from those who want to sell our freedom for privilege.
25/ We're not perfect. We've made plenty of mistakes in our history. But as long as we remember to value freedom and universal dignity, as well as collaboration over domination, the kiss up punch down MAGA Communists will be just another blip in a long line of psychotic failures.
