This is the fault of the people who think sickness makes you well.
Anti-vaxxers. Natural immunityers. Pro-infectioners. Anti-mitigationers. Immunity Debtors. Most Peoplers. Anti-Maskers. We-Have-The-Toolers.
The anti-vax crowd have driven the rejection of child hood vaccination with false claims of danger.
The natural immunity crowd are the flip side of the anti-vaxxers - they have argued that your immune system does better against whooping cough than if you have received a vaccine for it. They're wrong too.
The pro-infectioners are the people who say that it's better to get sick than change our lifestyles.
The anti-mitigationers who refuse to recognise risk and refuse to recognise the things that reduce risk.
The immunity debtors. Who think that if you don't get sick often enough you get sick.
The most peoplers who argue that 'most people' will be fine. Well, I have news for you... in the end, we're all just some people.
The anti-maskers who are basically anti-science. They refuse to understand how airborne transmission works and how it can be stopped.
The we-have-the-toolers who say that you can catch it and be fine because you'll be able to receive treatment that is not actually available in your country or to your age group or to someone with your condition.
And all those groups intermarry and have variant babies of their own.
I despise them all.
Because this is what they bring into the world:

It's starting to drive me a little nuts that people think we can find "the cure" for Long Covid.
Have you ever had a car back from the bodyshop after it has been in a crash?
🧵
It's like saying there's 'the cure' for the damage.
The frame is slightly off.
The steering pulls just ever so slightly to the left.
The rear left door doesn't shut so easily.
There's a weird whistling noise from the vents.
The headlights are misaligned.
I've had a few friends catch covid for the first time in the last few weeks.
They're feeling a bit rubbish because a) they have covid and b) they thought they might manage to keep their run going longer.
If you're in a similar boat, here are a few thoughts...
Risk reduction is not the same as risk elimination.
There's an old joke about someone wanting to escape Death, so they sealed themselves into an airtight box.
But the Duke of Spook can get in anywhere, airtight or not.
In fact, especially somewhere airtight.
