🚀 Introducing the ENSv2 Project Plan: Our Path to the Future of Naming.

We're thrilled to share detailed project phases for the next generation of ENS.
This site details our collective path to extend ENS to Layer 2.

From redesigning the protocol's architecture from the ground up all they way to the final implementation.
The ENSv2 Project Plan page breaks ENSv2 into 5 phases, and includes a highly detailed technical design doc and FAQ.

We'll regularly update this page with the latest progress and developments.

View the plan: ens.domains/l2-roadmap/
We'll be hosting an upcoming Space today at 11:30 am ET where we'll dive into the details of the ENSv2 Project Plan with the community!

Bring your questions and ideas as we discuss the path to ENSv2 🎉

Introducing ENSv2: The Next Generation of ENS 🎉🎉🎉

ENS Labs is excited to announce our proposal to extend the ENS protocol to a Layer 2 network. This move isn't just about migrating parts of the protocol; we're re-envisioning the architecture from the ground up!
Since 2017, ENS has evolved from a simple blockchain naming service to critical infrastructure for the Internet. With millions of .eth names registered and thousands of integrations, ENS has become the bridge between the traditional internet and the decentralized web.
As web3 goes mainstream and more users onboard, scaling constraints have emerged. Thankfully, Ethereum's "rollup-centric" roadmap addresses this with L2 networks. They offer lower gas costs and faster transactions, making web3 more accessible to a wider range of users.

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with @GoDaddy 🎉

Millions of customers can now use their DNS domains in the ENS ecosystem!

Let's dive into what this means👇 Image
Starting today, GoDaddy has a NEW section in their domain management interface called "Crypto Wallet" ✨ Image
@GoDaddy Thanks to Gasless DNSSEC, users can now easily associate an Ethereum address with their DNS domain name (.com, .xyz, etc.), allowing seamless integration with all applications that properly support ENS! 😱

Just follow these simple steps!

We've launched a big update to how ownership is displayed and managed in the ENS app;

Now, when viewing a name you'll see a new tab called 'Ownership', with a bunch of new features. Let's dive into them. 🧵 ens.app

The biggest change is the creation of the tab. We've given Ownership it's own section because it's crucial to ENS and trustlessness.

There are many ways a name can be owned, and we wanted to make that a lot clearer.
The way we show ownership is now focused more on the addresses attached to a name, rather than the way they're attached.

From user research we came to realize that most people primarily care about 'who can change my name'.

We’ve released a new metadata service for ENS names w/ a major refresh of the NFT images & metadata.

This allows a much wider range of data to be displayed, including enabling the user to have some control over it for their name

OpenSea has already switched to using this metadata for ENS names and is in the process of refreshing the metadata for all ENS names as of this writing.

The most obvious difference is that the default image for ENS names is new:

If you have an avatar set for your ENS name, the avatar will replace the gradient as the background.

This shows how your ENS name isn’t just any NFT but is your cross-platform web3 username and profile.

What ppl are already doing manually on Twitter can be done automatically across platforms on web3, leaving the user in control and w/o lock-in to a private service.

Set your ENS username & NFT avatar & see it update across all the web3 services that support the open standard
