Thread 🧵 1/9: MTGO League Data for EVERY format is now PUBLIC information. Daybreak Games has provided creators with an open rest API that can be used to gather and share data on their favorite formats.
2/9: In the past this kind of information has been used in WOTC Ban/Restriction announcements and was typically not shared to the MTG community. Daybreak has cleared this release!
3/9: Myself and Cuikui of the Vintage data team have gathered up the league information and provided it to everyone in the same format as we do Challenge data. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
4/9: We expect others including bigger data gathering / decklist hosting sites to begin doing the same across all formats. I go over a little bit about how we do this as well as some Vintage data analysis in this video
5/9: YOU can pull data as well. The data is accessible via rest call and the information can be found here: census.daybreakgames.com
6/9: Shoutout to two users Badaro (@phelpssan) for creating scrapping tools used across mtgo data websites and Cuikui who helped me put together this Vintage sheet
7/9: I expect other formats data collection to be more challenging and time consuming. We pulled 600k Vintage matches since MH1 in 6/1/21 multiply that # by quite a bit for something like modern.
8/9: Other formats will also run into the issue of needing strong parsing algorithms but the good news is users are already working on those inside Badaro tools
9/9: Data for the people! Ill be around today to try and help answer questions if people have them.

🧵Next weekends Vintage Showcase is a brewers paradise. The metagame has converged onto a pair of Lurrus Saga Control decks that will likely represent a large portion of the upcoming tournament metagame. These decks are very specifically built to beat normal Vintage decks 1/X
These decks can struggle when placed up against outside the box threats that go over the top of them. Specifically under costed powerful creatures can be a huge issue. 2/X
Take this list for instance, its done very well and is extremely strong right now but there are various threats that it can have a hard time dealing with. Its relies heavily on force of negation to deal with powerful threats 3/X
Had trouble sleeping last night after the adrenaline. Spent time thinking about what it takes to win @ magic. Think ive been stocking far too much in favor of technical play.
I didnt play well yesterday but pre tourney work and hot draws were enough to make up for it.
How much of playing well happens before the tournament? With your practice ans game knowledge. With your deck selection. At least for Vintage i feel the signs point wildy in both directions. For me its my greatest strength but also 2 of the 3 EW were first timer vintage players
Maybe its just that Vintage magnifies things. Small sequencing knowledge or card choices impact heavily but so does having lots of magic reps outside the format?
