We went to a high school graduation party for a neighbor’s kid last Saturday. It was mostly outside so I didn’t wear a mask. You had to go inside to get food though. I let my guard down. Turns out it was a super spreader event. The food was great but not worth getting Covid.
At least 5 people have tested positive since. More have had symptoms and haven’t tested. Several are doctors who have had to miss work or switch to telemedicine. Also multiple older people who are at high risk.
I was one of the people infected and I had to miss our residents’ graduation last night which I’m super bummed about.
All because one person who knew they were sick decided to come to the party without a mask on. “I don’t want to know if it’s Covid. I just hope it’s gone before my vacation next week!” was her exact quote. Yes, she went inside without a mask on and spoke at length to many people.
Please don’t be like this person. Have some basic consideration for others. If you are sick stay home. At the very least test before you go out. Stay home if you test positive. Wear a respirator mask if you are negative (or stay home anyway).
Covid is still out there. Much more than you might think because almost no one is testing anymore. There are serious potential long term consequences of repeated infections, whether you believe that to be true or not.
Just because you only had mild symptoms when you had Covid last time (or didn’t even test) does not mean you won’t have more serious illness next time or develop long Covid.
My wife and I care for 3 elderly relatives and haven’t been able to help them for a week because we don’t want to get them sick. We’ve had to isolate from our son because we don’t want to get him sick.
All of this because 1 person couldn’t be bothered to put others health above their good time. That person is a friend and did not do it with malice. Our society is just being conditioned to not care about others anymore. It’s sad and disappointing.
Rant over.

You’re quality of life, how long you live, or both will likely be reduced by repeated Covid infections, even if asymptomatic or mild. Your goal should be to contract Covid as few times as possible. All you have to do is a few of these simple things.
😷 Masking
🥽 Eye Protection
💉 Vaccination
🚀 Boosters
🪟 Ventilation
🌬️ Filtration
📏 Social Distancing
🫧 Social Bubbles
🏠 Isolation
🏥 Testing
🤚🏻 Hand washing
🧼 Surfaces
🟣 Far UV
I tested positive for Covid this morning. I got it because someone went on a cruise and gave it to an elderly relative of mine after bumping into her in the supermarket. My relative is hard of hearing and this person had to get close to her face and yell to be heard. No masks.
I went down to Florida to help her navigate the healthcare system & care for her once she was discharged. Thankfully she is doing better but I was in her room at the hospital for 2 days and cared for her at home for 3 more. I did wear an N95 & tried to limit my time in her room.
I got back last night and tested negative on a home test. Unfortunately this morning I had a headache, sore throat, mild cough, chills and myalgias. My test was immediately positive.

A list of all the things we can and should be doing as a community to decrease the spread of Covid from an ER doc who has remained Covid free so far 🤞, a 🧵:
1. 🫧 Bubble - gather in small groups only with other people who actually care and are also taking active measures not to get Covid.
2. 📏 Distancing - respect other people's space (6 feet). Especially if you see them wearing a mask and you aren't.
3. 😷 Masking - when in public or large crowds. Make sure it is a high quality and well fitting N95/KN95. This means no eating indoors if you can't also 📏, 🌬️/🪟 &💉/🚀. Not eating indoors ever is best but I get how this can be difficult, especially as cold weather arrives.
