@JustRickard 1) I’m measuring cognitive capability according to archaeological data, art, tools, etc, not simply on brain size.
@JustRickard 2) I completely agree with point 2. There are definitely environmental factors to increased or decreased intelligent which I think adds to my point about our ancestors. I’ll modify my statement to say naturally intelligent rather than just generally intelligent.
@JustRickard 3) I’m not necessarily suggesting that it has to be Homo habilis, I just find it interesting that they are the first in the primate order, the hominid family, to be given the genus Homo. My hypothesis could be better suited with Homo heidelbergensis, for all I know.
@JustRickard 4) Order, or design, in the universe, for example, the laws of physics, mathematics, are not simply abstractions, or illusions, that seems to me to be intuitively false. I find that they require a designer and lawgiver.
@JustRickard I do believe that there was chaos before there was order, but that’s what I believe the story of Genesis to be about, rather than the creationist/literalist interpretation. I believe that it is the recount of God assigning function to the chaos of energy, matter, space, and time.
@JustRickard Have you watched @InspiringPhilos’s Genesis 1-11 series? I think he does a fantastic job in articulating the interpretation that I subscribe to, especially in the first video:
@JustRickard 5) This is a fair point, however, I don’t find the universe to be pure chaos, this much seems fairly obvious to me. In fact, I find it to be extremely designed down to the finest detail, from the farthest reaches of space, to the other.
@JustRickard This is why we can confidently predict the heat death of the universe. In fact, this is why we can make predictions at all, because the universe is patterned, and we are programmed to recognize patterns. Animals do the same and I’m sure plants do too to an extent.
@JustRickard This is why I believe in the Catholic teaching on souls, in that humans have a rational soul, (the image of God,) animals have a sensitive soul, and plants have a vegetative soul.
@redeemed_zoomer 1963, before the Bible was outlawed from public schools:
@redeemed_zoomer We are on a treacherous precipice, more treacherous than we could possibly imagine. You know, we do have an authority crisis, take your pick, whether it’s parental authority, marital authority, political authority, academic authority, or ecclesiastical authority.
@redeemed_zoomer Do your own analysis and assessment. You know, if we look at the the leading cultural indicators, of the past thirty years, population has increased forty one percent, gross domestic product has increased by three hundred percent,
@farmingandJesus God breathed, or, theopneustos, in Greek, means inspired by God. I would attribute this to the Holy Spirit, or the Third Person of Trinity. This doesn’t mean that the Bible wasn’t also written by men. Both are true. God often uses natural means to perform his works.
@farmingandJesus Hence, the Incarnation of Christ.
@farmingandJesus Also, human biases don’t make something incorrect or false. I’m not even suggesting that there are biases in Scripture, but even if this were true, it wouldn’t make the Bible inerrant.
@farmingandJesus @LilaGraceRose Peter explained what happens at baptism when he said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). But he did not restrict this teaching to adults.
@farmingandJesus @LilaGraceRose He added, “For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him” (2:39, emphasis added). We also read: “Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name” (Acts 22:16).
@farmingandJesus @LilaGraceRose These commands are universal, not restricted to adults. Further, these commands make clear the necessary connection between baptism and salvation, a connection explicitly stated in 1 Peter 3:21:
@ElevateSon @darkcorman @darwintojesus There is way too much to unpack here in a single tweet. I can’t imagine that you’ve done any research into this because most of the ideas that you’re suggesting have been debunked by scholars. For one, the word for Hell in the Old Testament is sheol.
@ElevateSon @darkcorman @darwintojesus It’s not exclusively a Christian concept. Secondly, Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with paganism.
@ElevateSon @darkcorman @darwintojesus Christmas is a traditional Christian holiday.
