1/ The IDF and Shin Bet have released Shifa hospital director Mohammad Abu Salmiya after months of detention back to the Gaza strip. Israel's government is in an uproar. This state of affairs demonstrates the depths of Israel's unhinged mendacity. --->
2/ IDF and Shin Bet don't release a-n-y-o-n-e unless they absolutely have to because not even the most trumped up charges will stick. The director's release proves conclusively that the entire campaign around the destruction of Shifa was a barefaced lie. --->
3/ Israel classifies pretty much any behavior remotely related to Palestinian politics as "aiding and abetting terrorism". Israel presented its destruction of Shifa first as a campaign against the biggedt terrorist HQ in the strip. That was proven to be a lie. --->
4/ Then Israel claimed that the hospital was a hideout for terrorists and that the entire staff was complicit. The director's release (he was presented as high-ranking office in Hamas) reveals the opposite. Israel would have stuck to its guns if it could. It can't. --->
5/ The release has caused a stir in government and among unabashed supporters of the genocide. Netanyahu has helped establish a "forum" of hostage relatives who support a "total victory" (an extremely small minority among hostage relatives). They are protesting. --->
6/ Government ministers are protesting, some demanding the dismissal of the head of Shin Bet who has become "welfare officer for the terrorists". What can we learn from this? First, that Israel operates a broad, effective apparatus for the dissemination of lies. --->
7/ The PR campaign about Shifa was one of the largest, most extravagant propaganda productions of this genocidal campaign. Director Abu Salmiya's release certifies this fact. Second, that for the leaders of Israel's government there are "no bystanders in Gaza". --->
8/ It began as revenge. Now it is an ideologically driven campaign of "elimination", particularly when it comes to any and all infrastructure in the strip. Israel's government wants to make Gaza unlivable by any means necessary. Third, Israel's institutions are collapsing. --->
9/ The military and other security organizations speak with a voice different from the government's. No one is even pretending to define "military goals", the fictitious justification for the genocide. It is a free for all. Even the lies are collapsing.

1/ Many Israeli intellectuals and public figures are now attempting to adopt a Schrödingerian persona. They are against "the war" but not against the "removal" (granted, no longer "destruction") of Hamas. They believe Israel is "close to the point of no return". --->
2/ In the best Schrödingerian tradition, Israel will never cross this point. They explain that it takes only "common sense" to see that Israelis did not want a genocide on 7.10.23, but only wanted a "just response". They do not explain the constant genocidal crescendo. --->
3/ This, of course, aligns perfectly with the official Israeli position. Israel massacres and annihilates the Gaza Strip but it doesn't commit genocide. Israel says it intends to cleanse all Palestinians from the strip but it only "seeks" Hamas and regrets collateral damage. --->

1/ The most important take I have on Israel's situation at the moment is that you are all seeing exactly what you think you are seeing. Israel is a genocidal society. It is also a society undergoing implosion. Our seemingly invincible strength is our greatest weakness. --->
2/ I doubt anyone can observe Israel and receive a sense of triumph, or even of purpose. We kill Palestinians at a more primeval level, not as an rationally deduced "achievement" but as an expression of our innate supremacy. Our lives are meaningful when theirs are air. --->
3/ Netanyahu keeps upping the ante. That is not "winning". It is the desperate attempt of a losing gambler to "double or nothing" his way out of the hole. Israel cannot describe its "achievements" in Gaza. Palestinian deaths are the only measure, and they measure nothing. --->

1/ The dams have all broken. Words are meaningless. I write this in the most immediate mode, focused on myself alone. I am recovering from an intense operation. If I am a good boy and all goes well, my prize will be another, more difficult operation in 9 days. --->
2/ I wanted the liberty of falling back on all the things that made who I am. I wanted to sit still and draw sustenance from those things. I cannot. I am full of tossings and turnings, anger and frustration and shame, all directed at what I believed made me myself. --->
3/ As it turns out, I am not me. I do not have that liberty. That things that made me who I am have failed. Now it is only about saving lives and procuring justice. I will be here. I will ask for forgiveness and fight for justice. I am. I will never evade this shame. Never. --->

1/ The noose that tightens around what is left of the Israeli heart is not the ever-mounting horror of the genocide but the retreat into "feelings". Our feelings are constantly hurt. We feel that if we do not destroy Gaza (sorry, "Hamas") we will never be safe again. --->
2/ We feel no ine can question what we do in Gaza. It isn't even revenge anymore. It is the feeling that ״fighting" is the only thing standing between us and oblivion. We feel the fear of the "inevitable" even as we kill and maim countless people irreversibly. --->
3/ Most of us feel it isn't proper to call on others to refuse (to be called up). Why? Because it is a difficult choice and no one should be allowed to complicate another's feelings even more than necessary. There is a sense of finality to this last retreat. --->

1/ How do you respond to evil? That is, assuming you can even identify evil and just consider it "the cost of doing business", of course. What do you do when you realize society around you has embraced evil as its creed, that evil is being perpetrated in your name? --->
2/ I think the basic division is between those who seek to rise above evil and those who cannot and will not. I am only referring to people who object to evil, of course. Those who embrace it, the great majority, have no dilemma and are not divided. What of the opposers?
3/ Another way of explaining the relationship between the two kinds of opposition to evil is through the relationship between hope and despair. Those who seek to transcend evil think hope and despair exist in a zero sum game. In other words, the more hope, the less despair. --->

1/ Those of you impressed with the Israeli cabinet's approval of the "occupation of Gaza" should remember Israel's "imminent" strike on Iran. Netanyahu's government can survive only through complete detachment from reality. That reality is one of deep disarray. --->
2/ A very interesting development on Hebrew social media over the past few days has those advocating for genocide sounding more and more desperate. They recognize the "ineptitude" of the Netanyahu government. They realize Trump mistrusts Israel. They feel "victory" fading. --->
3/ Israelis are beginning to experiment with an unfamiliar side of themselves. Nobody cares about the Palestinians, of course. But the notion that "security" is above politics has been discredited. Netanyahu has shown Israelis that it has always been political. --->
