Around 18:00 Nitendra Singh is talking about how we have to use low quality nuclear fuel in India as we don’t have Uranium.
Here I want to bring ex PM Manmohan Singh ji and his vision. Read this thread for your country.
You see 1991 LPG reforms of India were not the final reforms. They were just the first instalment of Indian reforms. When MMS got a chance to be the PM in 2004, he was keen to bring the next stage of reforms. Forget Sonia Gandhi’s control here. Control does not mean vision. Whatever happening on structural level was not Sonia’s mind. Politics was her forte.
🧵
So, what did MMS do? He and even Abdul Kalam knew how India needs energy for its aspiration of a superpower. That amount of energy can only be generated by nuclear reactors. But there was a hurdle there.
Nuclear fuel is heavily guarded and controlled in the world. There is a group called Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) which controls trade of nuclear fuel and bans it from selling to countries like India. So, we needed a way to end this ban to buy Uranium freely in world market.
2/
Manmohan Singh Government decided to do a Nuclear Deal with USA. USA President George Bush was first pro India President in long long history of USA. MMS took full advantage of it and brought him on table. USA decided to get India a waiver from NSG and USA congress.
First understand why India was banned by NSG. Here comes another world organisation called IAEA. This agency inspects all nuclear establishments of the world to make them follow safety protocols.
3/
India had not given permission to IAEA to inspect Indian Nuclear reactors. Why? Because India had military and civil nuclear reactors combined. It violates IAEA guidelines.
So, Manmohan Singh quickly agreed to segregate military and civil plants in 2005 and give access to IAEA to check Civil nuclear establishments. This opened the door for NSG waiver.
4/
In 2006, Bush and Manmohan Singh from Delhi declared that they will go ahead with the nuclear deal. Bush administration started the process in USA.
But another problem started in India. MMS govt was not clear majority government. It had the support of left parties. Almost all opposition parties and Left parties threatened the Govt to stop such deal with USA. They were unhappy that India is going too close to USA. Almost becoming a US ally.
5/
Narrow minded stupid politicians did not understand what MMS was trying to do. To secure energy needs of India, we needed USA support in NSG.
In all this USA secured no opposition letter from all 48 NSG members to allow Uranium sale to India. Huge win for India and USA.
6/
But in India, Manmohan Government was asked to face No Confidence Motion in Parliament. Left parties withdrew their support. Congress Govt was about to fall. Still firm with his decision, MMS did not bow down and decided to go ahead with much needed nuclear deal.
In that circumstances, Samajwadi Party head Mulayam Singh called Congress and said that they have understood what is this deal and how important it is for India, so despite being in opposition, they will support the Govt in No confidence motion. This was a pleasant surprise for Govt of the day as SP was opposing the deal for a long time.
7/
Suddenly, the dying govt got a new life and won the no confidence vote in Parliament with the support of Samajwadis.
The deal was signed after that. But by now the effect of 2008 economic slowdown shook the economy of world. USA changed the govt and Obama came to power. Mumbai attacks also dented the popular progressive image of Manmohan Singh.
8/
Obama is definitely not an India supporter (like Biden is not). Republicans like Bush or Trump are pro India.
Hence, the delay caused by politics, economic conditions, and then internal political sabotage of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi against the visionary Manmohan Singh made the deal only worth a paper.
9/
2024 and nothing much has been done with this nuclear deal. India is still facing a huge energy shortage. Last 10 years of Modi Govt has no clue and they focus on Solar energy etc rather than Nuclear Energy.
Indian Nuclear power plants still have to use low quality fuel and it is hurting us all.
Vision is still there but there seems no one bold enough to actually act on it.
BJP was the leading party to oppose the nuclear deal in 2008.
10/10
Here get an idea with a recent example. How hard it was for Modi Govt to explain the farm laws to people and ultimately they had to withdraw.
Now imagine how hard it must be for MMS to explain a complicated thing like nuclear deal with USA in 2005 to Indians and opposition.

As I said yesterday that I will share an incident about Dr Manmohan Singh.
First let me give some context as I say LPG reforms were just the beginning of Indian reforms. In 2004, MMS got the power and immediately started working to bring next phase of reforms.
In 2006, India unrolled a massive employment programme called NREGA for rural India. It was mainly done to increase spending and demand in rural India. Rural economy of India was almost dead except the food crop production. The massive migration problem in India was also a result of stagnant rural economy.
🧵
1/
NREGA shook this equilibrium. Suddenly rural India had some guaranteed employment. Reverse migration happened in early phases of NREGA. Wages were given to people.
But Dr Manmohan knew this is just step 1.
Step 2 was to identify the correct person to deliver the money & help. Hence, Aadhar Card was born. “Identify every individual” and push for targeted delivery of ration, services, and subsidies.
But there was another side of this. Banking inclusion. Here comes the genius of Dr Singh.
2/
Dr Singh wanted to increase the banking in rural areas. This was the time when even mobile sms banking was an alien concept. Forget net banking. Very few people had good phones and had an idea of banking by phone.
Banks were lazy too.
Even in tier 2 cities there were just few branches of a bank. You can imagine conditions in rural areas. For hundreds of kms, there was no bank.
3/
Can Indians not make planned cities? Do we have books in ancient India on city planning and architecture?
Yes! A number of books are there. Some of them are commonly known.
Some of them- 1. Manasara Shilp-Shastra 2. Mayamata Shilp-Shastra 3. Amsumad Bheda of Kashyapa 4. Vishwakarma Shilp-Shastra 5. Agastya Shilp 6. Sanat Kumara Vastu Shastra 7. Mandana Shilp Shastra 8. Samgraha Shilp
Earliest known is dated from 7th century.
Have Indians used these books to design a city? 🧵
1/
Jaipur was planned by using Manasara Shilp shastra and Vastu shastra.
The well known Vastu Purusha design was used. We have commonly seen people planning their houses with Vastu Purusha. In city planning, it is slightly different.
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II used these design techniques to design his new capital in 1727.
2/
Vastu Purusha diagram and Jaipur grid planning.
The Vastu Purusha can be divided in 9 squares. In Jaipur, the northwest square is a hill where Nahargarh fort is situated. So that area cannot be used. Hence, another square was added next to southeast square.
Top centre square and central square are for Jaipur city palace and temple of Govind Dev ji.
Survey of India is the oldest department of India. British started it as soon as they made some ground in India. In next few decades, they had massive missions to calculate every square inch of India.
This was the reason behind their military success. They knew which river flows from where, how tall is the mountain they have to climb, where is the plateau where they had to make Bengaluru. Where to make army barracks in Bengal. Everything.
Wars are also won in offices with files & maps as weapons and clerks as soldiers.
1/
Survey of India was started in 1761. First they did Trigonometric Survey of India. The map looked like this.
The triangles and transects help in understanding the terrain.
2/
Measurements of Mount Everest and other peaks. Took years. They calculated it quite accurately.
If there are few business families in world which have made an empire, definitely Hindujas are one of them. They are an invisible hand behind many important decisions and policies of world.
Started in 1914, Pramanand Deepchand Hinduja in Shikarpur, Sindh. He moved to Bombay and learnt the trade before moving to Iran and establishing an office there.
The initial business was finance lending and trade which relied on India-Europe import export with Iran as its centre. This was before the discovery of great oil reserves everywhere.
1/
After Indian Independence, they chose to stay in Iran. Iran was more close to Europe and India under socialist Nehru might be a bad decision for them.
Hindujas were compelled to leave Iran after Islamic revolution of Iran in 1979. Hindujas were one of the mast targeted group by Islamic Revolutionaries.
Then again Hindujas did not choose India and moved to London and Switzerland. Although now they have a branch in India too. Diversified the business.
2/
Hindujas avoid limelight and no one knows real assets of this family. But they are often dragged in controversies since the infamous Bofors scandal of India in 1980s.
After that, there are many controversies around them. The human trafficking case is the most recent one with Switzerland branch of family.

We Rajasthanis sit silently and create no nuisance in peace of India. 1. Our language is not recognised by Constitution. That means 4-5 crore people are away from legal aid, govt offices and mentally feel less educated.
2. Our Northern states do not give us our water.
1/
3. Madhya Pradesh goes to court when we want to create a dam on Chambal river for drinking water supply of 13 districts.
4. Our resources are stolen by mining Mafia every day.
5. Our southern state Gujarat is not giving us a canal route to Arabian Sea.
2/
All these things affect me and my people of Rajasthan. Yet, we never stand and challenge Indian union like that stupid Amritpal.
You all in other states do not even care about our problems. Yet we say Padharo Mhare Desh. Lacs of Bihari students study here.
