Something I learned long ago as a fiction writer: A happy ending happens only because that's where the author stopped telling the story.
Life always goes on, and even after momentous achievements, there will come more challenges.
Why am I telling you this now?
1/9
I've had some dorks ask me versions of, "Why should we reelect Biden to save democracy? What's he gonna do to fix the problem?"
They're looking for a permanent happy ending. They want Dumbledor (or Harry Potter) to save us all, once and for all.
That's not how it works.
2/9
Biden isn't going to permanently "fix the problem." No one is, because it can't be "fixed".
YOU save democracy, by electing the non-fascist candidate. And YOU have to do that every goddam election. (Yes, you lazy bastard, you have to vote every goddam time.)
3/9
See, YOU are the hero of this story--or the villain. Saving democracy is YOUR job, and you do it by not EVER letting a fascist get into power. YOU do that.
And each time you win, each monumental achievement, means there will be more challenges afterwards.
4/9
Because there are no permanent happy endings.
But there are inflection points in the story, where things can get better. Or they can get far, FAR worse.
And it is up to YOU. At least partly. Yes, as in any good story, there are forces even the hero can't control.
5/9
But your vote ALWAYS counts. Your voice matters, so speak truth, and don't descend into cynicism. You can sway others (if you don't believe what you say makes a difference, then delete your account and stop posting).
6/9
You have to reelect Joe Biden--NOT because he's going to change the world (though he will change it in all sorts of awesome ways), but because he is a way for YOU to change the world for the better.
7/9
I won't regale you with all the dreadful ways the world can get worse (remember that now Trump is immune to criminal prosecution--and also go read up on Project 2025).
But if you don't vote for President Biden, I will tell you what that says to the world about YOU.
8/9
If you think you're so goddam important that someone has to "earn" your vote, then realize you are the protagonist of your story, and what YOU decide matters. Take that responsibility seriously. Don't wait for someone to convince you to do the rational thing. Do it yourself.

Normally, "official corruption" is not when an official does something outside of the powers of the office, but when an official abuses the powers of the office for a corrupt purpose.
1/6
For example, the mayor of a small town may have the authority to sign contracts for the town (sewer, water, construction, etc.). If the mayor always gives all city business to his brother-in-law, that's generally seen as corrupt, and could be criminal.
2/6
SCOTUS just said a former President cannot be prosecuted for criminal acts he takes as President, if they're part of his official duties. In other words, nothing a President does can be corrupt. SCOTUS even went so far as to say the President's motives cannot be questioned.
3/6
Trump ignored every question last night, and lied with every word he said, and no one called him out on it.
But THAT IS NOT THE WORST OF IT.
Trump showed us:
Every word he says creates the reality his cult believes.
It's VITAL that you understand this.
1/7
Trump ignored the questions, and didn't even pretend to answer them, because he told his cult, "Nothing exists outside of the reality that I create. I don't have to respond."
He said lies--that "everyone" wanted Roe reversed, that deficits were low under Trump, ...
2/7
... that Trump handled Covid well, that the economy is NOW terrible, that Biden is a criminal, something about "laptops", that Trump helped Black people...
If this Supreme Court gets the chance it will overturn Obergefell, and hold that there is no right of marriage for same-sex couples in the Constitution. We will go back to whether individual states want to legalize it and individual people and companies want to recognize it.
1/6
Red states will sue the federal government and will also sue Blue states to establish their power to not recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. This SCOTUS will uphold that power.
This Court will eliminate the right to contraception and to fertility treatments.
2/6
This Court will eliminate the right of same-sex couples to adopt children or to buy a house or claim each other as dependents on their taxes.
This Court will eliminate interracial marriages (Thomas notwithstanding) and the right of Black couples to adopt or to buy houses.
3/6
Six years ago, Trump was building concentration camps in which to incarcerate asylum-seekers who came to America, desperate for freedom. He separated children from their parents, locked them in cages, gave them to DeVos "adoption" agencies, and lost the receipts.
1/5
Four years ago, America was digging huge trenches to be mass graves for the thousands who died daily from Trump's malicious incompetence, unadorned coffins stacked like discarded shoeboxes. They seem reminiscent of something.
2/5
Now the genocidal madman and his National Republican Fascist Party who were all responsible for these atrocities want to return to power in America.
The last time fascism threatened to destroy democracy, it resulted in a world war with 20 million dead.
The faux-left has their answer to Project 2025, which is to pretend it's no big deal, nothing to be concerned about, and isn't threatening at all.
This is their response to the detailed plan to turn America into a fascist police state: "Nothing to see here. Move along."
1/8
That says all you need to know about who and what is animating the rhetoric from the supposed "far left."
I have no doubt that most of the "leftists" you meet are sincere people, who have their "principles" and are sticking to them. The problem is who is feeding them.
2/8
They've grown up on accelerationist anti-establishment ideas, and the lesson they learned from four years of Trump is, "We survived that, so we can handle the collapse of democracy--which isn't happening anyway, so ignore the warnings!"
3/8
In 2016, we warned you all, if Trump was elected, we'd be screwed for generation because he'd pervert the Court.
Well, that happened, and you dorks who fucked around with your vote in 2016 are now big mad because Mommy and Daddy haven't fixed the mess =you= made.
1/5
What part of "screwed for a generation" didn't you understand? Did we stutter?
We're warning you now: If Trump is reelected in 2024, you'll lose everything you value, and there might not be an election in 2028. Or any time thereafter.
Are you listening this time?
2/5
I don't care what problems you have with Biden or with Democrats. I do not give a shit where you "draw the line." Trump will A) be far worse, and B) never relinquish power, so whatever goddam "line" you have will be pulled from the ground and made into a noose.
