What Toni Kroos said on the Lanz and Precht podcast - a thread.

It will be a long one but then you can see what was actually said and most importantly here, what wasn't said. All of this in the final seven minutes of a 1 hour 20 discussion. Bear with.
The conversation has moved onto how the Germany team is covered by the German press, about how the team is being celebrated for its performances during the Euros.
Kroos: "I still have my whole family in Germany. And yes, because you asked where we will continue to live. I still think Germany is a really great country, I really like being there, but at least it's not quite the Germany it was maybe 10 years ago when we left." 1/X
Lanz: What's changed?

TK: "A feeling has definitely changed. A feeling because I can't even contribute much more than a feeling because maybe it's not like that anymore. A feeling, if I were to say now, if I were to compare it with Spain, for example, I have a 7yo daughter." 2/X
TK: "When she gets older, when she turns 13, 14, 15 + if someone were to ask me now, would you let your daughter out in Spain at 11 pm when she's 14 or in a big German city, I think I would tend to be more in favour of Spain now." 3/X
TK: "Simply from a feeling that comes across in what has happened. I didn't think that nothing would happen in Spain. I don't want to make such a sweeping statement, but that's why I say that with a very conscious feeling." 4/X
"But 10 years ago, I think I'd have been so worried about whether she would really be okay + come home unharmed. I wouldn't now."

Lanz: Wow. You know what word I hear most often in that context is? Loss of control. [Kontrollverlust in 🇩🇪 1 word] The fear of losing control." 5/X
Precht: "Yes, and maybe also. I mean, I keep noticing in Spain that it's really not an aggressive society at all. And I believe that we have become much more aggressive in the last 10 years due to the pandemic, but there are many other things that also play a role." 6/X
Precht: "That there is more of a feeling of latent threats and subliminal or visible aggression. I don't have that feeling in Spain either." 7/X
Precht: "I have the feeling in Spain that despite the many problems that this country also has, which are objectively no less than the problems in Germany, the general sense of togetherness is still much more positive than here." 8/X
Lanz: Would you also put it like that, TK?
TK: "I think it's basically a bit more of a positive attitude towards life. I think you can already see that. Even if I wouldn't say generally 🇩🇪is a negative country. You can see in these weeks, what's always possible, even in 🇩🇪." 9/X
TK: "So I think you just need something that's sometimes a bit lacking, something you can really touch, something that gives you a bit of that joie de vivre. Now somehow it's football for these last few weeks." 10/X
TK: "But this thing that you always have, I think that's a bit...I think there are things that are just missing a bit for a fundamentally more positive attitude to life, like how I get up every morning. I think that's something that used to feel a bit different." 11/X
TK: "A lot has happened in the last few years which hasn't necessarily contributed to a lighter attitude to life, of course. But I think you used a very good term earlier. I think that this real, this control over certain topics has simply slipped away a bit over the years." 12/X
Lanz: And there's a reason for that. In my opinion, the reason is that they have been systematically overburdened on so many levels in recent years, on all levels. I talk so much with district administrators, with mayors, with head teachers..." 13/X
Lanz: "...also with pupils, with the children who sit in the schools and so on. You talk to people who are responsible for housing. There are problems everywhere. It's too full, it's too much. It's much too much." 14/X
Lanz: "I always feel so incredibly sorry when someone voices criticism, then people are quick to say, oh, oh, oh, that's racist." 15/X
Lanz: "And I have a huge problem with that, because I still say, and I say this loud and clear to anyone who doesn't want to hear it, that this country is essentially not a racist country, but a good country." 16/X
Lanz: "And it's such a shame that many of these good qualities that this country has are currently being lost a little, yes, a little. That's a shame and we have to get out of it (this mindset). Absolutely get out of it." 17/X
TK: "Above all, I think that I have the feeling that, of many problems, this big issue of migration is also, how should I put it, such a, that it's full, that you have this feeling, I think, that it's a clear topic (for discussion)." 18/X
TK: "And I think, as you say, we are actually already showing, whether it was back then in 2006, whether it is again now, how, yes, with what kind of open arms this country actually welcomes people." 19/X
TK: "And I think that's sensational. So I think that that's really great. But I think it was just too uncontrolled. I don't think they managed (to succeed) with this fundamentally very positive approach or idea, which I support 1000%, because I think it's sensational..." 20/X
TK: "...because people come to us from abroad and then they're happy. But I think we simply underestimated it and ended up with something too uncontrolled." 21/X
TK: "And of course, when a lot of people come, there is always a percentage, just like there is among Germans, among a lot of Germans, there is also a percentage that is not good for us, not good for ourselves. And it's the same with a lot of people who come." 22/X
TK: "If you can't differentiate between those who are not good for us, then it becomes difficult in the end. And then, of course, the Germans' attitude towards this issue is also becoming increasingly divided." 23/X
TK: "Although the basic idea that people are coming, who we obviously need, that they are here, is sensational and good."

Precht: "Yes, I don't think it can be expressed much better than you've just summarized it." 24/24

Podcast ends after that.
The original post had 4 million views and to then just say...we were misled😳 Maybe instead of clarification, the word apology might be better?

The table doesn’t show it but the scoreboard summed it up today - Borussia Dortmund have problems. A thread with a few thoughts on what’s gone / going wrong (disclaimer - not everything…I think)
I don’t think today’s result really comes down to Marco Rose or the players. Because it’s always been the coach or the players for some time at BVB. And when that’s the case, you have to look up to CEO Aki Watzke + outgoing sporting director Michael Zorc
Big, important parts of this squad look like they are overperforming at this level. Do you blame Zagadou or do you ask why he is continually put in that position? Same with Thomas Meunier. Looked down the team sheets today and was struck just by how much more depth Leverkusen had

This is…so great. A lot going on.

Köln coach Steffen Baumgart was COVID positive this week. Had to stay at home to watch the Freiburg game.

Footage from his daughter shows he’s lively on the touchline **and** in front of his TV. 🤣 (HT @GEISSBLOG_KOELN)
Favourite moment? The way Steffen Baumgart’s dog provides emotional support whilst he’s shouting at his TV.
4. The voice notes sending instructions.
5. The way he looks like a golfer judging if his putt is going in or not at 19 seconds.
6. German not necessary to understand the video.
7. Even if you do understand German…how much of it is it possible to get?

Spoke on ESPN to Julian Nagelsmann about his jacket. I said there was a lot of chatter about it. “Really?” He smiled.
“Adidas sent that to me yesterday + asked if I could wear it today. I said maybe it’s a bit too cold but I’m moving that quick in the coaching zone, so…” 1/2
“…in the end it was warm enough. I’m happy if some fans in front of the television say it’s a nice jacket.”

The end. 😇
Can anyone help Jan? Asking for a friend. 😉

At Bayern-RB Leipzig today for @ESPNPlus. Quick flick through the local papers, starring soundman Max 🤩
Bayern go with the same XI that hammered Hertha. No spot for Dayot Upamecano against his former club after his mistake last time out. Full power front line up top 😳
RB make three changes from the team that beat Wolfsburg 2-0. Mohamed Simakan picked up a slight knee injury on Thursday. Should be ok for Köln I’m told. He’s out along with Novoa and Henrichs. In comes Nordi Mukiele, Lukas Klostermann and Dani Olmo.

Max Eberl to @ESPNFC on how much longer he expects Marco Rose to be at Gladbach and whether Lucien Favre gets a raw deal at Dortmund.
Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl on @ReneMaric. "One metre there, one metre there." @ESPNFC

Lahoz refereeing RB-United. Oh boy.
First yellow card five minutes in. Showing Bruno Fernandes who’s boss. 🙄
