🧵I wrote most of this thread last week, but I couldn’t post it. It was too fresh in my mind. Honestly, I was too uncomfortable. I know this is vulnerable, but I need to share it. Here goes...
My employer gave me a choice: keep my income or keep running for Congress. What would you do? Image
I could provide for my family or my country. Not both. I chose to continue running for Congress and sacrifice my job.

The way I see it, keeping my job was the safest path forward. But the people of this district need me for a different job - as the U.S representative for OH-12.
Keep my job, or “interview” for a job where I can work to help every American family, give every parent better opportunities to provide for their kids, and fix a system where one bad day can take a child’s healthcare away… or leave a family like mine or yours homeless.
I work for a great company, and I don’t blame them. But I am a veteran. I served my country. I strapped on the boots and buttoned up the uniform day after day, for years.

I swore to protect our freedoms from threats both foreign and domestic, and I’M NOT DONE. Image
I didn’t make the safe choice, but I think I made the right one. It’s going to be a difficult one to live with for a while. Honestly, I’m nervous.

If there’s ever been a day to help me in this race, it’s today. Please let me know I made the right choice. secure.actblue.com/donate/j_twitt…
I grew up in poverty. I know what it’s like to be a kid and not understand why the adults are so stressed or why we’re losing the house or why we’re sleeping on the floor at Grandma's.

The thought of my son being without tightens my chest… I’m not just nervous. I’m terrified.
I am not independently wealthy. I never have been. To the world, that means my voice doesn't count.

Unless you're wealthy, it means your voice doesn't count either.

I’ve sacrificed a lot trying to change that this year, and I just gave up my job to keep trying.
You don’t come from where I have and decide to run for Congress, to leave your family for a job halfway across the country, for shits and giggles.

You do it because things aren’t okay, the kids aren’t alright, and no one is f***ing helping us. No one can with MAGA in Congress. Image
If you grow up like Troy Balderson, you run for Congress because you’re already rich, and money is all that matters. Really, why would anyone expect you to care about your family if you’re taking dark money to destroy their home? Image
My campaign is the only chance Ohio has to protect our families from a Republican that has pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars while voting to poison our kids, destroy our planet, and strip us of our freedoms for his personal gain.

Troy Balderson has to go. Image
I was sitting waiting for a haircut and wondering if I should save the $15 for groceries next month.

The intrusive thoughts were coming in. Am I selfish for getting a haircut right now? Does this make me a bad dad?

The good guys shouldn’t have to worry about a haircut Image
I'll always fight to provide for my wife and son. No child should experience the poverty I did as a kid.

I’m not quitting, ever. We are going to win this and get some actual progress back in our Congress.

🚨🧵 The ex-leader of a religious right group reveals he recruited wealthy volunteers, including a top Dayton, Ohio evangelical couple, to wine & dine conservative Supreme Court justices—while pushing their stance on abortion, homosexuality, gun laws, and more. 1/9
Rev. Schenck said that his group “would rehearse lines like, ‘We believe you are here for a time like this’” to flatter the Federalist Society’s Supreme Court justices and encourage them to kill Roe v. Wade. 2/9

This has to be connected to CNP. This coalition of GOP operatives, Christian fundamentalists, and wealthy donors control our courts and red states. They want to end equal rights, risk our lives for corporate profits, and write their beliefs into law. 3/9 deprogramamerica.com/cnp/

🧵There is a crisis that has killed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Americans right here in our own neighborhoods, and the sad truth is U.S. policies are to blame. We have fueled the rise of Mexican cartels for decades. Let’s break it down. 1/12
Nixon launched the War on Drugs in the 1970s, shifting drug trafficking routes from the Caribbean to Mexico. This enhanced the cartels' control over cocaine trafficking by the 1980s and led to increased violence on a massive scale. 2/12

Militarized approaches in the War on Drugs, like the Kingpin Strategy, fragmented large cartels into smaller, more violent groups, further escalating violence across Mexico. 3/12

🧵Forgive me if what I’m about to share with you is a hard pill to swallow, but avoiding hard truths helped get us where we are today. I’m not interested in being just like any other politician, and I think it’s time to be transparent about the threats we’re up against. 1/20
Since launching my campaign, I’ve learned a lot about what’s happening in our country from people who work in politics. Some stories are hard to believe. Some even keep me up at night, so I can understand why politicians don’t share them with the public. But I have to. 2/20
We are watching our system of checks and balances disappear with the stroke of a pen. It’s not alarmist to say that this is a failing democracy that may be one election away from destruction, but it didn’t start with Donald Trump. 3/20
