This thread will properly start at 12. Where we will be more frequent with updates.
We expect this year's pride to be as massive (if not bigger) than last year's. However, this year, there has been some last-minute disruption because a Tommy Robinson protest is happening on the same day on the same route as the march.
People who have changed their gender markers will be prohibited from adopting children. Marriages where one member has changed their gender marker are to be annulled.
People who have changed their legal documents MAY be able to continue their gender-affirming care (likely under the guise of being cis), but those who haven't will not. It will probably largely depend on the clinicians.
It’s been reported that 30,000 people are expected to march today (no idea where this number originally came from, could be more, could be less)
It’s really going to be something
#transpridelondon
Very rainy weather at the moment. It may get a bit damp during the march.
This is a very different event to Pride in London last week. This is more political which makes sense. Trans people are being squeezed so it makes sense that this would be more radical
If you wanted to understand the hatred of trans people that exists in the UK right now, you could do worse than looking at what is happening to the trans woman who said yes to an interview about inflation and the price of water.
Let's go through it
1/9
A trans woman (who isn't being named here for her sake) did a news interview on TV about the cost of water during this time of inflation and financial turmoil.
This was not an interview about being trans. Or trans issues.
2/9
A Labour MP with a history of being reported in her press for her anti-trans views (and they are anti-trans views) tweeted that she is not a mother.
All because the news report called her a mother.
3/9
A lot of talk about the evil trans lobby and the evil trans activists...
...I have been covering trans activism and know a hell of a lot than most about the state of trans lobbying.
Here is the truth.
1/14
1. "The Trans Lobby"
Lobbyists are literally called this because they show up in the lobby of parliament trying to persuade politicians to care about their interests.
I spent two weeks attempting to lobby parliamentarians. Here is what I learned about the "Trans lobby"
2/14
There are barely any trans lobbyists in parliament. There is the LGBT APPG which is almost entirely cisgender people, maybe one VERY small group who sometimes shows up in parliament and...for two weeks, me.
