Session 1 will centre around the Science of Learning
Session 2 is all about Forgetting
Session 3 goes over Retrieval Practice with the introduction of Brain Dumps & some practice
Session 4 goes over the power of Flashcards.
We’ll be encouraging subjects to use these and brain dumps as their revision strategies in lessons during these 2 terms, allowing contextualisation in lessons
Session 5 looks at the power of deliberate practice, introducing the @SandResearch memory clock
Session 6 circles back to our original assembly & launch when we talk about the power of habits in the run up to their first set of mocks exams
Our final session of the year, which is post mock exams, looks at being Self Reflective Learners
Mock Exam Wrapper central feature of this session
I need to create a special version for Y11 who will only experience a year of it.
Big thanks to @KatieEHolmes_ whose work finally encouraged me to get something sorted.
Usual thanks to those who’s work inspired @Inner_Drive @teacherhead @AlexJQuigley @EducEndowFoundn
@KatieEHolmes_ @Inner_Drive @teacherhead @AlexJQuigley @EducEndowFoundn @Miss_G_Geog Some of the updated hits for the Y11 version - it’s not Year 2, just a combo of the two years
Little page on goals to follow our systems & goals sessions - we did this last year and it was really powerful.
Also a checklist for the final stage of revision
@KatieEHolmes_ @Inner_Drive @teacherhead @AlexJQuigley @EducEndowFoundn @Miss_G_Geog Another section on Wellbeing & Stress
@KatieEHolmes_ @Inner_Drive @teacherhead @AlexJQuigley @EducEndowFoundn @Miss_G_Geog And a final one on building a revision timetable (systems!) by harnessing spacing and interleaving
That’s me done for summer, onto delivery 💪

This week @MeolsCopHS is launching a new homework policy, something that’s been almost a year on a making.
A thread 🧵 on implementation
Firstly, as with effective implementation, we began to identify the ‘why’
This involves creating up a T&L Inquiry group - totally voluntary, made up of a range of staff who were keen to be involved
As an aside from this, we sought to hear from as many voices as possible - therefore we used our @TeacherTapp school surveys to gather views from parents and staff, alongside collecting pupil voice
It allowed us to identify some barriers & opportunities
At @MeolsCopHS today we launched the first of our new Instructional Rounds cycle:
This is a classroom teacher led professional development opportunity for staff to see & share good practice within our school. Flipping traditional observation & learning walks on their head.
In essence, 12 staff working in triads are taken off timetable for the morning.
They observe 24 lessons between them, looking for the excellent practice & ‘bright spots’ within the classroom. This time as a general overview of the school.
This is part of the IR Cycle 👇
During the introduction, I talked about our ‘teacher improvement is school improvement’ principle which site at the heart of this
I included this excellent @MrNickHart slide when talking about our culture at Meols Cop - this summarises who we are, and why we do what we do.
Our whole school T&L focus this year is a return to Metacognition and Self Regulated Learning.
I’ve been lucky to draw on the expertise of the @meolsresearch team & training to develop our CPD plan, built around the excellent @EducEndowFoundn PD programme.
Our first session led with the important ‘why’, some reading from the EEF Guidance Report & a summary based on @FunkyPedagogy’s book.
Yesterdays session delved deeper into theory & the models of metacognition, building on Recommendation 2
A concrete example of how cooking a Christmas dinner exemplified metacognition regulation, alongside a task around our strengths and weaknesses around teaching the 6 aspects
