As an elected official, Josh Shapiro has a damning history of smearing and attacking Palestinian rights advocates and free speech.
Opposition to choosing him as the VP candidate isn't about his identity, it's about his policies and rhetoric over the years. 🧵
Shapiro has taken a uniquely aggressive stance against organizers and activists who oppose the Israeli government’s genocide against Palestinians. He has compared peaceful, anti-war student protesters to violent white supremacists, including the KKK. newrepublic.com/article/184151…
Over the years, Shapiro has repeatedly conflated principled protest and speech - including the use of boycott and divestment as tools to pressure the Israeli government to end human rights violations against Palestinians - with antisemitism. thenation.com/article/politi…
Shapiro has also lent credence and support to far-right MAGA attacks on higher education and free speech, including through his public support for the GOP-orchestrated firing of the President of University of Pennsylvania.
These GOP-led attacks on universities have become a full blown McCarthyist witch hunt that has expanded to other schools. It has nothing to do with keeping Jewish communities safe, and everything to do with silencing an anti-war movement.
Hundreds of thousands of Dem voters across the US have cast uncommitted or similar votes to demand that Biden stop arming the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza. The majority of Americans want a ceasefire, and supporting Palestinian rights is popular among Dem voters.
VP Harris has an opportunity to start listening to the communities who were betrayed by Biden's unwavering support for Israel’s genocide.
Choosing a candidate who has so vocally sought to silence and attack these same people, would send a message that little has changed.

JVP Action endorses "uncommitted" in the remaining Democratic presidential primaries
This is a warning to Biden. We reject his support for Israel's assault on Gaza. By choosing to be complicit in genocide, he is also ignoring his voters and terrifyingly paving a path for Trump🧵
Over 100,000 people voted “uncommitted” in the critical swing state of Michigan last week - a clear message to Biden that his constituents demand an end to US complicity in genocide. The @Listen2michigan campaign sparked a wave of momentum and we must all keep the pressure on.
Tomorrow is #SuperTuesday and at least four states have grassroots movements pushing for “uncommitted” votes (or a similar option). Here's how to cast your vote to send Joe Biden a clear message: we need a permanent ceasefire NOW and an end to the flow of weapons to the Israel.
Thousands of Jews and allies are outside the AIPAC Headquarters in NYC calling on Congress to listen to the will of the people and reject AIPAC as the extremist warmongers they've always been. AIPAC gave money to over 196 reps in November alone. It's time to #DumpAIPAC.
AIPAC — an extremist lobby group backing far-Right candidates and supporting genocide — gave $829,835 to Hakeem Jeffries, who opposes a ceasefire in Gaza. @RepJeffries, your Jewish constituents call on you to #DumpAIPAC!
AIPAC — an extremist lobby group backing far-Right candidates and supporting genocide — gave $348,818 to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who opposes a ceasefire in Gaza. @SenGillibrand, your Jewish constituents call on you to #DumpAIPAC!
🚨 Tonight the House will vote on H.R. 3016 - incredibly dangerous and unconstitutional legislation attempting to punish people for engaging in political boycotts that are designed to pressure the Israeli government to obey international law🧵
Under this legislation, anyone who voluntarily decides to make a values-based decision to boycott the Israeli government could face criminal or civil penalties — potentially up to $1 million in fines or 20 years in prison.
Boycotts are a tried, true, respected, and constitutionally protected nonviolent tactic for human rights and social justice movements.
Police violently attacked nonviolent anti-war activists at a ceasefire vigil outside a fundraiser event held by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Wednesday evening.
Wielding pepper spray and pellet guns, the police rushed members of the interfaith vigil without warning, where some activists had blocked some of the doors of the Democratic DCCC’s candidate event, asking politicians to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
