A very large number of Muslims have popped into my mentions to tell me that zionism (self determination for Jews) is "genocidal". And there's something very, very interesting about this. Which is this..

/1
The all parliamentary group worked for two years on a working definition of "Islamophobia". The research came up with nine points to summarise what Muslims deeply felt to be "Islamophobia", and therefore unacceptable.

/2
Point 6 reads: "Denying Muslim populations the right to self-determination e.g., by claiming that the existence of an independent Palestine or Kashmir is a terrorist endeavour".

/3 Image
So, the consensus appears to be: Jewish self determination is "genocidal", but Muslim self-determination is an essential right, the denial of which features in their own definition of "Islamophobia".

/4
I find it fascinating that the narrative here is that one group deserve self-determination and the other do not. Can there be a clearer message here? They cannot have it both ways . If it's Islamophobia to deny it to Muslims, then it's antisemitic to deny it of Jews.

/5
The gaslighting begins when Jews exercising this right that the APPG feel is so essential for Muslims (who BTW already HAVE self-determination in 47 countries) even once, is "genocidal". Quite a quandary to be backed into.

/6
And also quite a fascinating twisting of the facts. Its common knowledge that Israel *always* backed Palestinian self-determination, it was only the Muslim side that consistently refused to recognise Jewish independence.

/7
Irrespective of the obvious fact that Jews hail from Judea and that Israel is home to their language culture, archaeology, history and all their most important religious sites. Despite all that, self-determination can only ever be "genocidal"

/8
Through my life I've met and known many Jews. Before 7 Oct I never met a SINGLE one that didn't think Palestinians also deserves self-determination. Never. There was no "genocide". There was a window wide open for two peaceful states to live next door.

/9
7 Oct closed that window for most Jews I know, because their neighbours have told them amd shown them that their intent is to murder them all. So now those who understandably don't want to be murdered, have changed their minds.

/10
Consistently one side HAS sought "genocide". They've been very open about it. Their kids in school say it, their charter says it, they proudly proclaim they want to kill Jews and remove them from their country. Yet the OTHER side is the one accused of being genocidal

/11
So my hypothesis is this: denying any group the right of self determination is discrimination. But you should only have this right if you agree you will use your independence to live peacefully. If your sole aim is murder of your neighbour, then YOU are genocidal and unfit.

🧵 Multiculturalism- near and far.

I'm a middle eastern immigrant living in Britain, with two siblings married to Muslims (one gay) and for us, "multiculturalism" works great. But there's an essential component which is a shared value system and the honest truth is, this...

/1
Minorities are ONLY safe, protected and equal IF they live in a country where minorities are protected. For that to happen, you must have laws which offer that protection, but more importantly you must have a consensus that values equality and freedom.

/2
The fundamental principle of "freedom" is not a concept that is lauded universally. For some cultures, "freedom" is unimportant and / or, runs contrary to religious beliefs around which their value systems are based.

"FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸"

but... to what?

Here's the 2023 report from Amnesty on exactly what that "freedom" might look like in practice....

1)
LGBT RIGHTS?
Homosexuality is illegal in Gaza. UNRWA published guidance to staff regarding treating LGBTI people equally and the Hamas authorities accused them of promoting “deviance and moral decay”. There are 336000 homosexuals in Israel at the lowest estimate.

2)
WOMEN'S RIGHTS?
Women still did not have equal rights to men in personal status law, which is subject to religious law. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, 59% of married women and girls experienced violence at the hands of their partner.

What is happening in Gaza right now includes the following key factors.

1. There is a war, that was started by Gaza with a particularly brutal attack on Israeli civilians
2. The attacking "force" was Hamas, who carefully planned it - likely over years - and who have committed thousands of attacks previously. They have proven history of exploiting the "rules" of warfare with actions such as using juvenile combatants or even child suicide bombers.
3. They have very clearly stated their motivation is ethnically cleansing Israel of Jews and making it Arab / Muslim in entirety. They have not said, nor has any Palestinian committing a terror act EVER, that their goal is a two state solution or a multicultural state solution.

I'm a left-wing Jew. I've never been to Israel. I've abhorred Netanyahu for years. I've always wanted peace to prevail. And here's how 7/10, yhe war, and the way "peace protestors" have changed the way I see things permanently....

(1)
I was idealistic before and was even open to a one state solution because I believed *most* Palestinians surely didn't actually want to kill Jewish people. After watching them join in on and celebrate the massacre of 7/10 - I now have serious worries peace can ever happen.

(2)
Listening to Palestinian academics and students around the world has shocked me. Most I have heard speak, have an antisemitism problem *so profound* that it negates their ability to be fit to do their job.

How I got to zionism in 5 questions:

1. Is it reasonable for people, generally, to want to live in a part of the world correlating with their history, archaeology, religion, culture and heritage?

Yes. Therefore it's completely reasonable for Jews to want to live in Israel
2. Is there evidence to show that Jews were able, ever, including now, to live in this area with equality to Muslims without religious or racial persecution?

No. They have never been able to do that. They were always second class citizens and subject to persecution.
3. Do I believe that now, in 2024, Jews could live under majority Islamic rule safely and freely?

Absolutely not. Open your eyes. They'd all be dead or exiled inside of a week. And even if not, pluralistic western style life would be off the table.

Iraqi, Nazis, Israel & the exodus of Jews... the history...🧵
(1) Image
I'll begin in 1933 when Radio Berlin began broadcasting hate messages in Arabic, including false reports about terrible things Jewish had done in what was then British Mandate Palestine. They were Nazis, so you can imagine what those broadcasts were like

(2)
Many Iraqis were groomed as Nazisl proxies and an Iraqi Arab Hitler-style youth developed and had torchlight parades. Mein Kampf was translated to Arabic and serialised in the newspaper. German was even taught in Iraqi schools.
