"It was probably the most intense summer of my life. But it was also urgently needed after a year that I personally couldn't be satisfied with at all, in which I fell far short of my expectations."

Q: You lost your regular place and are no longer in the national team
"These are all things for which I am entirely to blame. I didn't deserve to be nominated by Julian Nagelsmann for the European Championship."
#BVB
"The decision is completely understandable and there's nothing wrong with it at all."
Q: How did it come to this?
"Mentally, I just didn't manage to do the right things. I couldn't manage to motivate myself. I wanted to, but couldn't. [...]"
#BVB
"Fortunately, I was totally fine in my private life. Everything was and still is fine. I then had lots of important conversations and got help."
#BVB
On the meeting with the bosses:
"A very important and good conversation. Very respectful and confidential. None of the content got out. Everyone gave their own view of things and was as honest as possible."
#BVB
"There couldn't have been a much better conversation: always with respect, nobody minced their words, but at the same time we listened to each other very carefully. That's why I took it all to heart and worked on it."
#BVB
"In the end, it was up to me what I did with it. It took me a long time to realise that I wasn't doing this for anyone else, but just for myself."
#BVB
What help did you get?
"I put together a team with my consultant and my family with people who are absolutely top in their field. We checked exactly who I needed around me. Without these three or four people, my inner circle, I probably wouldn't have made it."
#BVB
"I've been working with a mental coach for a long time who is great. His input was worth its weight in gold. But the chefs who have been with me over the last few weeks have also been top class."
#BVB
"I went into this summer break with the aim of creating something like a Niklas Süle 2.0. Now I'm in a mental state that I haven't been in for a long time. Mentally and physically, I'm in a condition where I can really attack again. It was very tough."
#BVB
"It didn't feel like a holiday for a day, but when I see how I'm doing now, it makes me happy and proud. Football is so much about the mind, you need enormous mental strength."
#BVB
"It may have taken me a while to realise this, but now I'm glad that I took the path I did. I'm very happy with the way things are right now."
#BVB
On Nuri Sahin:
"I speak to Nuri every day. I also did that several times when I was on holiday and even when he was still an assistant coach. The thing that characterises him the most is that he tells you his expectations straight to your face."
#BVB
"You know exactly where you stand at all times. I know exactly what Nuri thinks of me and I'm extremely happy that he's the coach. That's why I want to show him the best possible Niklas Süle this year."
Sven Mislintat is said to have exceeded his authority on several occasions and is said to have had disputes with his superiors Lars Ricken, Sebastian Kehl and coach Nuri Sahin.

The division of responsibilities was clearly discussed. Mislintat is said to work with Kehl and Ricken and use his network and eye for potential transfers. He is not responsible for negotiations with clubs and players. Mislintat did not adhere to this.
#BVB
Even before he took office, there were internal voices that suspected that the self-confident Mislintat might find it difficult to fulfil his role as an assistant without decision-making powers.
🚨 Mats Hummels on two games in Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal and league:
"I was furious because I was of the opinion that Borussia Dortmund shouldn't play like that - against any opponent in the world."
🗞 @SPORTBILD

"[...] I didn't think it could go on like this. I felt insulted in my honour to stand on the pitch in that kit. So submissive, so inferior in footballing terms. The two Stuttgart games and the away game in Leverkusen. That was barricading with 11 men in the box."
#BVB
Q: Did you complain to the coach?
"I gave a lot of suggestions."
Q: Also to the coach?
"Yes. Really to everyone involved. Just to try and play better football again [...] I went to the coach's office and we talked."
Borussia Dortmund is suing PSG and has lodged a complaint to the 'Football Supporters Europe'. FSE is a fans' organisation that officially cooperates with UEFA.

Borussia Dortmund are complaining that they did not receive enough tickets for the match in Paris - 480 tickets too few. PSG claimed before the game that the Paris police had wanted it that way. However, an enquiry revealed that this was not true at all.
#BVB
The police would rather have had the fans in the stadium than in the surrounding streets during the game. PSG also banned banners from the fans.
"When the basically good-natured Südtribüne, where I really appreciate the fans for their support and their fine sense is booing as loudly as after the 2:2 against Heidenheim, it must be clear to everyone: Something is fundamentally wrong here!"

"When you lead 2-0 at halftime, that's when you have to win the game. Full stop. We have created this drama ourselves."
#BVB
"Now we can still wake up, the 'English weeks' are just coming. We have the chance to turn it around. [...] We have to show that we don't fall apart into two team parts, one offensive and one defensive. Unfortunately, we concede extremely many counter-attacks."
The Borussia Dortmund dressing room is glad that Jude Bellingham is no longer there. His transfer was probably beneficial for the climate within the dressing room. A kind of mood has built up against the Englishman.

Above all, these 3 points massively disturbed a part of the team:
- One of the biggest issues is that Bellingham often waited after games for the team to thank the fans for their support. Only then did he make his way to the stands to receive applause on his own.
#BVB
This is said to have started in the 2021/22 season when Bellingham felt Erling Haaland was outranking him with the fans. After the Norwegian's transfer, Bellingham made his rounds alone.
"After looking at it, it is a penalty kick in the situation with Adeyemi for BVB. However, I didn't see it that way at all on the pitch. The defender had a lot of pace and I was sure Adeyemi had put his leg in."
"Of course, the video assistant looked at the scene and assessed it. The assessment was that it was not an obvious mistake, so there was no recommendation that I watch it again myself. If I had doubts about my decision, then that would have been an option, yes."
"But I didn't have them at that moment. In retrospect, I have to say: I would have been glad if I had looked at it again. Of course, my aim is to decide everything correctly directly on the pitch, [...]"
