I didn’t say “EVERY white person”

But I should have.

A thread
He’s technically right - every white person didn’t get the GI Bill.

But that’s not how an economy works. And every white person benefitted from it.
First of all, the GI Bill wasn’t the only New Deal policy that helped build the whites-only communities that we now call the suburbs. Black Americans were excluded from MANY post-Depression New Deal polices.
For example, to stop forclosures, the Home Owners Loan Corporation refinanced a million homes between 1933 & 1936. EVERYONE was poor & unemployed (which is why the depression was “Great”) Credit reports didn’t exist yet, so there was no way to determine creditworthiness
The HOLC’s color coded maps ensured that govt backed loans were in neighborhoods that were exclusively white.

But “redlining” maps didn’t just affect the 1 million govt backed loans & the GI Bill, banks began redlining maps for it for ALL mortgages
Local governments —even in integrated Northern cities like Chicago —made it ILLEGAL to sell property to Black people.

Fun fact: the parents of “A Raisin in the Sun” playwright Lorraine Hansberry won the Supreme Court case that outlawed racial covenants Image
Realtors had to promise to keep Black ppl out of white neighborhoods.

I didn’t make that up. The National Association of Realtors admitted it…

In 2020.

Fun fact: the term “realtor” was invented to differentiate between members of their whites-only NAR & other estate agents Image
Even the whites who didn’t qualify for HOLC got New Deal jobs that helped them buy & refi

And since the loans were govt backed, banks had lower risks, lowering ALL interest rates
But it wasn’t just about homes. If you owned a home in a non-redlined area, whites could refinance their homes to start a business or pay for their kids’ college, or make other purchases

This was the beginning of the 2 car family, the small business explosion & the college boom
So many white kids went to college after WW2 that universities were packed to the gills. The higher education attainment & home values fueled their generational wealth, which built more homes and more business for whites, which exacerbated inequality
Because of redlining, the Black vets who received the GI bill couldn’t buy a home. Even Blacks who owned their homes couldn’t refinance

And because of segregation & high demand for HBCUs, Black vets couldn’t attend college.

But here’s the thing:
Those GI Bills were paid with tax dollars that Black citizens were also paying.

Those mortgages were backed with tax dollars that Black ppl also paid.

Black Americans paid for roads & schools in those whites only suburbs. They funded public colleges they couldn’t attend
If white Americans had to find those down payments and loans and jobs and mortgages and low interest loans by themselves, their taxes would have increased. Their public universities would have been worse.

Their neighborhoods would have been poorer and their kids less educated
I won’t even get into how segregation inflates property values that determine property taxes that influences school funding, public safety, municipal resources, water cleanliness, teacher pay, garbage collection, business subsides, neighborhood revitalization, sidewalks, parks…
They were essentially living off welfare

They lived in homes they couldn’t afford without our tax dollars and their kids attended schools that we funded. Their generational prosperity was funded on the backs of ppl who didn’t have access to their American dream
This economic prosperity had nothing to do with individual hate or work ethic or 2-parent homes or rap music or buying Jordans or faith in God

It was a white-approved national policy intentionally created to build & maintain the white middle class’ economic stability
But the architects of this economic policy didn’t just exclude Black people, they specifically crafted it with the intention to help AS MANY WHITE PEOPLE as possible.

“EVERY WHITE PERSON” WAS THE GOAL.

If your people missed out….

That says more about them than me

What the Raygun memes have to do with Black history:

I’m sure you’ve seen Black Twitter’s reaction to Dr. Rachael Gunn’s performance for Australia in the Olympic breakin’ competition.

Here’s my favorite

While it was objectively hilarious, for some people, it was also kinda cringe.

I thought it was beautiful.

To understand why, you have to go back to the origin of hip hop, dance and American art in general.

Fun fact: if you combine the crowd for the Jan 6 rally AND Trump’s inauguration, he STILL wouldn’t make the top 5 biggest Mall crowds.

A (short) thread
1. While everyone knows the “I Have a Dream” speech, the March on Washington was not MLK’s idea, nor was he in charge of it. In fact, he was 12 when A Phillip Randolph came up with the idea for it.

MLK represented 1 of 6 groups in the coalition of organizers

2. They ONLY expected about 100,000 people. And, while the MOW is often described as “multiracial,” it wasn’t. About 190,000 of the estimated 200,000+ attendees were Black.

While it wasn’t the biggest, it is STILL the most policed event in US history. Image

I was homeschooled until I was 12, so when I started going to school, I was one of the worst students.

For instance, I got a lot of zeroes for not turning in assignments. To be fair, I was TERRIBLE at math. And sometimes, I'd just get up and leave class without saying anything.
I was always running some kind of scam. I got in trouble for selling my lunch and selling contraband at school. Plus, I got in a lot of fights all the time.

My teacher finally gave up on me and asked the school to remove me from the classroom.

Although there have been discussions & articles about Project 2025, VERY FEW focus specifically on Trump's plans for Black Americans

That's why I read all 922 pages of #Project2025 as well as #Agenda47

Here are the top 10 things I found:

A thread:

thegrio.com/2024/07/15/i-r…
First of all, when Trump said he had nothing to do with Project 2025, he wasn't lying.

Technically, it was written by 200+ pro-Trump policy "experts," many of whom served in the Trump administration. Trump's official plan is called "Agenda47."

Think of it this way:
Project 2025 is the MAGA employee manual for people who will work in the Trump Administration.

Agenda47 is a campaign document (Well, a series of videos). It's essentially a Cliff's Notes version of Project 2025 on YouTube for MAGAs who don't like all that reading BS.

Whenever there's a national tragedy, a natural disaster or something that affects a lot of white people, right-wing zealots always cite one particular bible

2 Chronicles 7:14

To them, it is a warning from God. But throughout history, it's become a weapon of hate.

A thread Image
If you are an evangelical Christian, a Republican or attend a church where the drummer doesn't use a sweatrag, you've DEFINITELY heard this 2 Chronicles 7:14

They literally believe its a biblical directive for us to Make America Great Again

christianindex.org/stories/2-chro…
To be fair, I've never been to a church whose shouting music doesn't have a bassline. So how do I know?

Well, the Southern Baptist Convention kicked out the president of their political arm because he was critical of pastors who supported Trump.

That wasn't his worst offense. Image

If you're wondering how the "race-baiters" are going to make the SCOTUS ruling about racism, well...

Here's what the Trump decision has to do with the history of white supremacy, racial terrorism and even the death of George Floyd.

A thread.
It began with the passage of the 13th Amendment. If you don't go to school in Fla, you probably know about the birth of the KKK, White Leagues & other domestic terror cells responsible for racial violence during Reconstruction.

Well, it kinda didn't really happen that way.
The Klan was not really that popular until YEARS later. In fact, MOST of the racial terrorism during Reconstruction was committed by two groups:

1. Regular-degular, unaffilliated white people
2. Police officers.

Most pre-civil war cities & towns didn't have police forces
