Sepsis is a thief in the night. Gruffin, initially transitioned as a MINOR, had severe sepsis in 2021 in the immediate wake of having her arm skin sewn onto her groin while taking cosmetic testosterone, resulting in 10 blood clots (one of which nearly led to limb amputation) and an ICU stay requiring a ventilator during covid. Before she died, the medical industry reportedly billed nearly a million dollars, not counting the last year and a half of her life, when she clearly was receiving medical care yet not posting billing updates.
50% of sepsis patients end up with post-sepsis syndrome, which is characterized by irreversible organ damage, including brain damage. This is a result of the infection itself as well as loss of blood pressure and reperfusion injury when pressure is restored This damage can lead to deterioration and death in the years following the episode of sepsis.
I watched this play out in my personal life with a person very dear to me. Sepsis stole his ability to sleep - specifically, to dream - and this led to deterioration and death at 26, two years later. He coincidentally passed away around the same time in July, nearly a decade ago.
They're doing this to children.

The time Griffin said I have no life is bitterly ironic now. She was first affirmed at age 13.
We tried. I tried. But the fuse was already lit.
She was also married and if her widow is anything like me, she truly believed love would defeat post-sepsis syndrome, and has her own long road ahead as she comes to terms with this horrific experience that will color all her future relationships. And she lived with her grandmother.
