Very interesting piece by WSJ about Ukraine's Kursk offensive:
- Preparations began earlier this summer as Ukraine used drones to attack infrastructure in Kursk, from the power grid to ammunition and fuel-storage depots and surveillance equipment. 1/11 ⬇️ Image
- Members of an anti-Kremlin paramilitary group backed by Ukrainian military intelligence carried out raids across the border, probing for weak spots and conducting reconnaissance. 2/11
- Two weeks before the operation began, Ukrainian drones destroyed Russian observation systems at a border post on the road to Kursk. 3/11
- Ukrainian electronic-warfare units went into Russian territory ahead of the main mechanized assault forces to jam Russian equipment to stop Russian forces from pinpointing Ukrainian positions or intercepting their communications. 4/11
- That unusual, early deployment—created a protective bubble around advancing Ukrainian assault forces.
Ukrainian mechanized troops with Western equipment raced down Russian roads with little resistance. 5/11
Within hours, they had advanced miles into Russian territory, driving past towns and villages rather than attacking them head-on. 6/11
Ukrainian artillery quickly moved deeper into Russian territory. On the outskirts of Sudzha, the crew from the 44th Brigade targeted Russian equipment and soldiers on the main highway from Kursk. 7/11
Western military estimates suggest Ukraine has committed as many as 6,000 soldiers to Kursk and has up to 4,000 additional troops in support roles in the Sumy region. 8/11
To avoid weakening the front line, a substantial number of the troops came from a reserve force Ukraine had been building with Western encouragement for operations later this year and in 2025, according to the person familiar with the operation. 9/11
Russia might have to pull more troops out of Ukraine if it wants to take the territory back, which would require a larger force than the Ukrainians and would probably need to number more than 20,000 properly trained personnel. 10/11
Satellite imagery, meanwhile, shows that Russia is hastily digging antitank ditches and other fortifications more than 30 miles from the border. 11/11

Interesting new developments about Ukraine's Kursk offensive:
- Ukraine began expanding flanks in southern bank of the Seim river. Ukrainian Armed Forces knocked out the last remaining bridge over the river in Karyzh, almost cutting off the Glushkovsky district. 1/10 ⬇️ Image
- Russian troops managed to establish one pontoon crossing in Glushkovo. However, the destruction of bridges will substantially impede supplies to Russian forces in the area. 2/10
- In the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces expanded west of Sudzha, seizing three villages: Snagosti and Apanasovka in the Korenevsky District and Otruby in Glushkovksy district. 3/10

Due to a personnel shortage, the Russian motorized infantry units have reassigned military personnel from Aerospace Forces units to repel Ukraine's Kursk offensive.

Some of those units were stationed at nuclear strike warning facilities and heavy bomber regiments. 1/8 ⬇️ Image
Due to a personnel shortage in the Russian Federation's ground forces, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region is being countered by a temporary motorized rifle regiment of the Aerospace Forces, specially assembled from servicemen across Russia. 2/8
The motorized rifle regiment, composed of Aerospace Forces servicemen, including officers, was formed in May-June 2024 and integrated into the so-called 'North' border protection group. 3/8

Important context about the Slavyanin ferry that was significantly damaged in the recent Ukrainian attack in the Port Kavkaz:
🇺🇦Navy Speaker Pletenchuk:
"There were direct hits on this ferry, which is a rail ferry and quite powerful. And it the last one that Russia possesses" 1/8

Regarding the project, it was designed to accommodate 50 conventional ferries, meaning it can transport 50 tanks. It has now been removed from the international route."
2/8
"The situation was so critical that after the loss of the previous two ferries, the Russians were forced to remove it from the international route and put it on an "internal" one. 3/8

Georgian Parliament has just overridden the President's veto of the Russian foreign agents law. So, what does this mean? A thread:

- The Georgian Dream has now legally declared a strategic shift from 🇬🇪's constitutional foreign policy goals of EU and NATO integration. 1/17 ⬇️ Image
- Georgia's Western partners, including the European Union, NATO, the US, and many others, underscored that the legislation is incompatible with the country's aspirations to become a full-fledged member of the EU and NATO. 2/17
- The Georgian Dream aims to silence all critical voices, primarily civil society organizations and independent media outlets, to ensure victory in the crucial parliamentary elections in October. 3/17

Another egregious and truly insane statement by 🇬🇪PM Irakli Kobakhidze:
"it is important to de-oligarchize the EU and the USA. There is no alternative to fighting the "global war party"; the only other option is surrender, which will lead to the Ukrainization of Georgia." ⬇️1/6 Image
Georgian Dream (GD) has created an illusory threat, a conspiracy called the "Global War Party", which they claim possesses omnipresent power to control global politics. 2/6
The "Global War Party" aims to spark a revolution in Georgia, topple the government, and force the country to open a second front against Russia. 3/6

Major General Ivan Popov, the former commander of Russia's 58th Combined Arms Army, has been arrested on suspicion of fraud. Popov harshly criticized Russian leadership last year, after which he was fired.

Background 1/7 ⬇️ Image
At the time of his resignation, Popov allegedly enjoyed immense popularity among the troops. He commanded the 58th Army, which was deployed in the Robotyne area, where the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces unfolded. 2/7
In the published audio in 2023, Popov said: I named all the problems that exist today in the army regarding combat operations and supply. 3/7
