1/ Easy to be bearish on ETH:

It underperformed SOL and BTC, and bearish sentiment dominates the feed.

But there's a catalyst to get bullish about: Pectra upgrade: 🧵 Image
2/ The Pectra Upgrade is Ethereum’s next major upgrade, expected to roll out in Q1 2025.

It merges the Prague (execution layer) and Electra (consensus layer) updates.

Unlike previous upgrades, Pectra seems to get no FOMO at all.
3/ I understand why:

Ethereum had three major upgrades in a few years:
• Transition to PoS
• Enabling ETH burn
• Reducing gas fees by introducing data blobs

But Pectra has a few cool upgrades under the sleeve.
4/ Account Abstraction is perhaps the most exiting.

Until now, AA usage was low because interacting with most DeFi dApps via smart contract accounts was cumbersome (ending in missed airdrops).

Ironically, Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) still provide better overall experience.
5/ But EIP-7702 introduces a way to give EOAs super powers of smart contract wallets by allowing EOAs to have code attached to them.

EOAs *temporarily* act as smart contract wallets during transactions.

I repeat: EOA becomes a smart contract wallet only during a transaction!
6/ The benefits:

• Batching Transactions: Combine multiple actions into one transaction for efficiency
• Sponsorship: Another account can cover transaction fees if a user lacks ETH
• Privilege Management: Create sub-keys with limited permissions for specific tasks
7/ It reduces the gap between EOAs and Smart contract wallets, leading to more secure and user-friendly dApps.

E.g., it will make it easier to manage funds, automate processes, and interact with dApps EVEN without requiring users to directly hold ETH.

Approve+swap in one tx!
8/ Fun fact: Vitalik had reportedly wrote the EIP-7702 in 22 minutes, just before the Ethereum Foundation meeting.

Imagine how much more he could do if he didn't have a girlfriend!
9/ On staking front, EIP-7251 increases the maximum stake from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH.

Initially, the 32 ETH cap was designed for Ethereum's sharding plans, but now it’s outdated.

The result is over 1.5 million validators, driving up network complexity and costs.
10/ Key Benefits

• Large Validators: Reduce servers, maintenance, and costs by running fewer validators.
• Small Validators: Benefit from compounding rewards.

You will be able to stake 40 ETH at once instead of waiting for 64 ETH for two validators.
11/ Next: EIP-7594 introduces Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS) increasing data availability.

It lets nodes verify large DA without downloading it all further reducing costs for L2s, perhaps by 2x-3x.

Note: it's uncertain if PeerDAS launches with Pectra.
12/ A big upgrade brings changes to the EVM with eleven EIPs that will make it easier to write and deploy smart contracts, reducing costs and improving efficiency.

In other words, developing on Ethereum is about to get a lot smoother.

Learn more how here:
13/ There's more technical upgrades coming with BLS12-381 curve precompile, stateless clients, attestations and more.

@ethereumintern_ broken down these technical upgrades in the thread I shared above!

In short: Pectra will improve user experience for devs and users alike.

1/ Random thoughts on the state of crypto: #2

Investing in MOST previous cycle tokens is a waste—they are either boring or hose teams have already "made it" and are just pretending to care about their projects.

Find the exceptions to outperform the market.
2/ Solana is fun for trading, but long term holdings better stored on Ethereum.

L2s are currently worse at both.
3/ • $SOL’s short-term success rides on degens staying hyped about memecoins, as it's still viewed as a memecoin hub.

• In the mid-term, Solana's has diverse sectors to captivate the community. They will thrive when memecoin mania subsides.

1/ You can't hit replay on a big announcement.

Be it a protocol mainnet launch, an airdrop, a tokenomics reveal, or a major upgrade—you've got one chance.

Make it count.

So, here's my trade offer: 👇 Image
2/ The usual crypto playbook involves an official blog post, a tweet with a hope it clicks.

Teams also pay for PR articles on media and appear on podcasts to talk about the launch.

All this is great, but there's a missing piece to make the launch truly resonate...
3/ That's me!

You heard it right.

People want genuine, no-nonsense reviews that get to the point of what matters to them.

And I've been doing just that for 2 years. Image

Polkadot spent $37m USD in outreach during the first half of 2024, targeting new users, developers, and businesses

• $10m on ads/sponsorships
• $4.4m on influencers
• $4m on digital ads

Yet Polkadot still seems invisible on X and elsewhere. Image
In total, Polkadot spent $86m USD in the past 6 months:

The Treasury manages 245m USD (38m DOT) in assets, of which 188m USD (29m DOT) are liquid.

At this burn rate, they'll go bankrupt in less than 2 years.
This is how their Treasury flow looks like:

1/ DeFi OG tokens appear dead...

But a major shift in the market is approaching for a new FOMO wave to come to DeFi.

Here's why DeFi is ready to pump: 🧵 Image
2/ DeFi tokens are badly underperforming ETH.

The DeFi Pulse Index (DPI) has been declining against ETH for three years straight. And $ETH itself underperformed BTC this cycle.

DPI includes $UNI, $MKR, $LDO, $AAVE, $SNX, $PENDLE, and others. Image
3/ The only exception is $PENDLE, up ~750% in the same period.

Why Pendle? The answer is multifaceted. They managed to find a strong PMF during the points meta.

Airdrop farming and memecoins have been the top playgrounds for degens this cycle so far.

1/ Bitcoin Runes appear dead...

But behind the scenes, the infrastructure is being built for a new FOMO wave to come. Development in DEXes is leading the way.

Here are the top Bitcoin L1 exchanges you can try now: 🧵
2/ Trading Runes on BTC is currently no better than BRC20s.

Unisat and Magic Eden require exact order matches for trades, creating friction. But teams are building new engines for better UX/UI.

Many are still in development or on testnet. Image
3/ @FluidtokensXBT

• Orderbook-based, peer-to-peer trading
• Uses PSBT* for permissionless, MEV-protected transactions
• Prioritizes decentralization

*PSBT (Partially Signed Bitcoin Transaction) making complex transactions easier & more secure. Image

1/6 Two-year price performance of the popular EVM DEXes:

Only $UNI outperformed $ETH.

$CAKE and $BAL lagged, but $CRV took the biggest hit.

There's much to learn about product and tokenomics from these results.

A few takes below: ↓ Image
2/6 While the $BAL price dropped, the market cap increased by 49% from $143m to $204m USD.

The continuous token issuance imposes a heavy tax on $BAL token holders, who end up subsidizing LPs. Image
3/6 The same story applies to $CAKE and $CRV:

$CAKE's spot price dropped by 40%, yet its market cap remained largely unchanged.

Similarly, $CRV's price fell by 78%, but its market cap stayed largely the same.

Similar situation for $DODO
