In 2018, Mark Zuckerberg was one of the most hated CEOs on the planet.

6 years later, he wears chains, surfs in tuxedos and fights Lex Fridman.

Everyone seems to love him.

It's the most brilliant PR transformation of the century and everyone needs to understand why it worked: 🧵Image
Image
Remember this scrawny, awkward hacker?

Now, he’s a jacked CEO who fights Lex Fridman & wears chains.

Here’s what you missed about Zuck’s PR transformation:
Image
Image
2004: A nervous 19-year-old in flip-flops launches Facebook from his dorm room.

2024: A confident 40-year-old in gold chains wakeboarding while holding the American flag.

What happened in between?
It's not just about looks.

Zuck's gone from awkward Congressional hearings to scrapping with UFC fighters.

From "smoking meats" videos to receiving gold chains from T-Pain.

This isn't an accident...
Coincidentally, it's coincided with Meta getting its mojo back.

Meta stock is up 60% this year (& 160% in the last 5).

Zuck's transformation mirrors Meta's:

• Meta: From scandal-plagued social media to AI innovator
• Zuck: From robotic CEO to relatable tech bro

The secret? Image
Zuck's new strategy: Authenticity.

He's not pretending to be a normal guy anymore. He's owning his billionaire status.

• Wakeboarding in a tux? Check.
• Collecting designer chains? Yep.
• Training with MMA fighters? You bet.

Other transformations we're seeing:
Zuck's whole wardrobe got an upgrade:

• Out: Dishwater tees and hoodies
• In: Capri cabana shirts and Yeezy-esque sweatshirts

And:

• He's let his hair grow out into Gen-Z curls
• He's engaging with fashion designers in IG comments

The secret: Image
While Elon Musk picks culture war fights on X, Zuck's projecting a "whatever bro, I'm doing me" vibe.

By embracing his quirky billionaire status instead of hiding it, Zuck's become MORE relatable.

Now, he's just spending time with his family & spending his billions as we would.
The big takeaway:

Whether or not you liked Zuck before, you probably like him more now.

And it's all down to him just being himself.

This is what people get wrong about personal brand:
They think a personal brand is about being someone else.

That a personal brand = the LinkedIn influencer types.

But Zuck's transformation shows you:

Your authentic self is what leads to the best outcomes.

@iamjasonlevin puts this extremely well:
"If you want to be loved by masses, stop pretending to be normal and middle class and acting ashamed of your wealth (no one finds shame cool)."

This goes for whoever you are:
If you're just starting out to entrepreneurship, don't try and share lessons from a place of authority.

Those who ACTUALLY have authority won't respect you for it.

Be authentic. Share your journey & struggles instead.

Now, you're probably wondering what MY authority is here:
The reason I can share this lesson is because I work with founders to craft their personal brands online.

I KNOW Zuck's lesson applies. I see it in the results we get for founders we work with:

Authenticity sells.

People crave it, and they can see through the BS.

So:
Tell your real story online.

Share the successes, wins and wisdom.

The benefits are infinite: You'll attract people who align with your vision in the thousands.

Hiring, investment, sales — all become a breeze.

Just be authentic.

A bit about me:

2 years ago, I stumbled on the opportunity of the decade:

Personal Branding.

Since then, I quit my job to build @ThoughtleadrX — and now we're working with some of your favorite founders.

Recognize these faces?

2 owners of Twitter.

One is a workaholic. The other meditates in the Himalayas.

And they have 1 extraordinary difference in philosophy🧵
Image
Image
2006: Jack Dorsey co-founds Twitter.
2007: Elon Musk joins the platform.

Two tech visionaries were unknowingly on a collision course.

Dorsey tweets: "just setting up my twttr"
Musk's first tweet: "This is actually me"

Little did they know what was coming next...

In 2013, Musk became a regular user. He:

• Used platform to announce Tesla news
• Built massive following with memes and hot takes
• Got into trouble with SEC over "funding secured" tweet

He called Twitter the "de facto public town square"

But in 2020, everything changed: Image

The year is 1997. Apple is just 90 days from bankruptcy.

Enter Steve Jobs.

With ONE move no-one saw coming, he brings Apple back to life. Apple stock explodes 7,000% over the next 14 years.

Here's the story: Image
Let's rewind to 1985:

Steve Jobs, Apple's co-founder, is forced out of the company after a power struggle.

He goes on to found NeXT Computer and buy Pixar.

Meanwhile, Apple starts to decline. Fast forward to 1997:
Apple is in dire straits:

• Stock at a 12-year low
• $1 Billion in losses that year
• Just 4% market share in PCs
• Over 350 products — most unprofitable

The tech world is writing Apple's obituary.

But there's a twist... Image

The greatest motivational speaker ever:

Jim Rohn.

He was Tony Robbins' mentor, gave 6,000 speeches in 39 countries and died with a net worth of $500M.

Here's his life-changing philosophy:
Image
Image
Jim Rohn was born on a small farm in Idaho.

He worked hard on the farm — but his financial struggles didn't end.

By 25, he was married with a family, working as a stock clerk, and drowning in debt.

Talk about the American Dream...
More like a nightmare. Until...

A chance encounter changes everything:

One day Rohn attended a seminar from a guy named Earl Shoaff.

At a seminar, Shoaff's words hit Rohn like a lightning bolt:

This is the new CEO of Starbucks.

He'll get his own private jet and earn up to $30 Million a year...

While customers are paying $10 for a coffee.

It's driving the internet crazy — but after some digging, I found out exactly what's going on...🧵 Image
Brian Niccol's contract includes:

• Up to $30M annual compensation
• Use of company jet for commuting
• A new office built in Newport Beach, CA

Why? He doesn't want to relocate to Seattle.

Instead, he'll commute 1,000 miles... by private jet.

The internet's reaction?
Not great. People are calling out the hypocrisy:

"We use paper straws to save the planet, while the CEO flies private?"

Others point to the double standard:

"Employees are forced back to the office, but the CEO gets to work remotely?"

But there's more to this story...

This PhD biologist quit her $100,000 job...

To work $7/hour jobs instead.

She wanted to study whether poverty is just the result of poor choices.

What happened next will blow your mind: 🧵 Image
In 1998, Barbara Ehrenreich made a decision that would change her life:

She left her comfortable career as a writer to work minimum wage jobs across America.

The idea?
To see if she could survive on $7 an hour.

Ehrenreich's choice was particularly surprising given her past:

• PhD in cell biology from Rockefeller University
• Successful career as an author and essayist
• Comfortable middle-class life

But why did she do this?

Peter Thiel just did a podcast with Joe Rogan.

He co-founded PayPal, recruited Elon Musk, and is one of the most unique thinkers of our time.

In the podcast, he shared some mind-bending theories and ideas.

Here are the 6 key takeaways: Image
The Turing Test Milestone

Thiel calls passing the Turing Test (see clip) a "Holy Grail" achievement in AI. Why?

Because this test fundamentally changes how we interact with machines.

Think about it:
ChatGPT can now fool an average person into thinking it's human.

Thiel argues this is MORE important than superintelligence as it forces us to think deeply about what makes someone 'human'.

The impacts of this for society will be profound: Are we ready for this shift?
