Going to do a thread on the 1986 book "Men and Marriage" which is critical of the feminist movement. It is pretty old so I am taking some of the social science cited at the time with a grain of salt, but it is certainly an interesting time capsule. amazon.com/Men-Marriage-G…
Why men are less sexually secure than women:
The prisoners with the greatest sex role anxieties are the most violent:
Society has a much larger stake employing young men than young women:
"The sexual power of women, if combined with economic power, leaves many young men with no civilized way to achieve sexual identity"
Couples become unhappy when traditional sex roles are reversed:
A woman who waits until after 35 has only a 5% chance of marrying:
The and now, the real wage gap is between singles, and married men:
Single men tend to have increased risk of mental health problems:
Single men are also more likely to commit crimes:
Divorced men fare worse than divorced women:
It is possible this is due to selection, but that wouldn't explain the sex gap:
Description of the homosexuals bathhouses of the 80s:
In late 1983, more than half of gays were still behaving the same way in the face of the AIDS crisis:
28% of San Francisco gays had more than 1000 sex partners, 75% said they had more than 100:
The very high rate of STDs among gays:
Homosexuality seems to coincide with polygyny:
AFDC makes a cuck out of every taxpayer:
What passing the ERA would do. Democrats have this in their 2024 party platform:
In 1984, both parties required every state to make an effort to have 50% female delegates. Quotas go back a long time:
"Equality" requires equal funding for women's sports despite unequal performance. In some places this raised participation for girls but lowered participation for boys. I can't think of any area in society where men and boys perform worse but still expect to have equal outcomes
Almost every study shows that intangible aspects of character are more important than measured classroom skills, and most important skills are learned on the job.
Another trait that men have that helps them in the military is better leadership skills. This is why patriarchy is somewhat inevitable
Societies that have tried to abandon traditional sex roles ended up reverting back to earlier patterns:
On the increase of women in the workforce. One social analyst described this as the unmaking of the greatest social achievements of the 19th century, allowing mothers to spend time with their children.
Men use much more of their earning capacity:
Women in similar positions work less hours:
How Sweden tried to make marriage more egalitarian:
This ended up cratering marriage rates in Sweden:
Most people in the suburbs are happy and well connected, working women look forward to leaving their jobs and few are bored.
The two sexes are no longer making the necessary sacrifices to sustain society
The author thinks American immigration will solve social security. Shows how far this rhetoric goes back.
Some excerpts from WSJ article about the 10 million population cap referendum in Switzerland. The journal admits the historic wave of immigration to the West hasn't solved economic problems:
Economics professor from Canada admits that immigration hasn't solved Canada's problems.
Economic output per worker has stagnated across some of the countries that have accepted the most immigrants.
1/Short thread on race and Greek life. This legal scholar recently filed some FOIA requests for public universities to get some data on mainstream frats and sororities (IFC/Panhellenic) and this is what the data looks like overall:
2/ The IFC fraternities they looked at were slightly less white at around 72%. Everywhere greeks life was at least 15% whiter than the university population as a whole.
3/ Comparison between % of undergrads who are black vs panhellenic sororities. At the schools that turned over chapter level data almost half of chapters had no black members.
1/ Short thread. The WSJ asked business historians to rank the greatest entrepreneurs and business leaders in American history. Here are the racial demographics:
