Ukraine can count on the Netherlands’ continuing support and engagement. That was my message to President @ZelenskyyUa today in Zaporizhzhia.
It is incredible to see how Ukrainians are carrying on with their lives and keeping their country going, in a city just a few dozen kilometres from the front. Early this morning I visited an underground school and attended an assembly marking the opening of the school year. It’s hard to imagine how the children and teachers cope with the constant threat of bombs and drones. This afternoon I talked to a number of veterans about their experiences in the war and the importance of mental health support.
We must do everything possible to help Ukraine keep going. On the front lines, but also in people’s daily lives. That’s why the Netherlands is providing a substantial new support package worth over €200 million. The package is focused mainly on protecting and repairing the energy infrastructure and includes additional funding for humanitarian assistance.
People in Ukraine have the right to live in freedom and security. And stopping Russia’s attacks on Ukraine is in the security interests of both the Netherlands and Europe as a whole. That’s a belief that we all share. My first visit to the country as prime minister of the Netherlands has confirmed my conviction that we must continue to support Ukraine.

I regret the outcome of tonight's #Brexitvote. It is disappointing that the UK government has been unable to ensure a majority for the Withdrawal Agreement agreed by both parties in November, even after multiple additional assurances from the EU. A solution must come from London.
The EU continues to stand by the Withdrawal Agreement, including the backstop, which serves to prevent a hard border in Ireland and preserve the integrity of the single market unless and until alternative arrangements can be found.
With only 17 days left until March 29th, the Dutch government will keep working tirelessly to make sure the damage for NL and Dutch citizens living and working in the UK is minimised in the now more likely case of a no-deal #Brexit.
