Lets take a closer a look at Czech 🇨🇿 CV90 Mk.IV

#CzechCV90saga

1) The vehicle itself
2) Czech Defense Industry participation and connected benefits (in part 2)

THREAD 🧵

⬇️1/
1) CV9030CZ is a modified CV90Mk.IV, the newest iteration of proven CV90 platform. CV90 is currently the most widely used tracked IFV in Europe and thanks to Czech and Slovak acquisitions of 400 CV's with delivery till 2030, it will stay that way. Not to speak about 🇺🇦 or 🇩🇰

⬇️2 Image
CV9030CZ is a nationalized version, customized based on requirements of Czech Land Forces, utilizing multiple solutions from Czech Defense Industry, such as C-RCIED and C-UAS radio signal jammers, similar to those being used on other vehicles of Czech Army

⬇️3/ Image
Currently. The turret prototype (slightly modified D-series turret) is already finished and it successfuly completed its shooting trials, and steel is getting ready to make first hulls. Also, orders for components are already signed. First prototype will be ready by 2024/5

⬇️4
Image
Image
All to ensure that the project will go as planned and in accordance with time schedule, so that Czech Army will receive its first CV90's by 2026, and last of 246 ordered will be delivered in 2030. BAE Hagglunds works hand in hand with Czech Defense Industry partners

⬇️5/ Image
And end-users from Czech Armed Forces (specifically 7th mechanized brigade), so that the vehicles are customized based on customer requirements and meet the demands of Czech mechanized forces. That includes external and internal changes.

⬇️6/ Image
CV9030CZ is armed with 30mm Mk.44 Bushmaster II autocannon, a NATO standard that is more than enough to penetrate Russian light and medium armor. It has 160 ready rounds (and 200+ in reserve) in two belts of 80, gunner can choose between them instantly (AP, HE, ABM).

⬇️7/ Image
For heavily armored targets, CV9030CZ is equipped with 2x Spike LR2 ATGM's. With 5,5 km range, its penetration capabilities are sufficient to damage/destroy basically all of currently fielded Russian MBT's.

⬇️8/ Image
Against enemy infantry, there is independent (to the main gun - it isnt placed in the main gun cover) 7,62 machine gun.

Lets now look at the situational awareness. The CV9030CZ has enhanced electroptical suite compared to standard Mk.IV.

⬇️9/ Image
There is one enhanced unit in the central part of the front (driver cam - two optical channels compared to standard one) and two more on the sides - there have been two side optical units,

⬇️10/ Image
... on the initial model of CV9030CZ, yet they were located more to the rear. In the place of the "step" of the Mk.III hull type, where the hull is getting higher because of infantry dismounts space. Mk.IV hull has a different shape, as it rises gradually in the rear

⬇️11/ Image
There is also camera in the rear, to monitor infantry element exit space.

This is hull. It is scalable, more solutions can be applied, including once again domestic systems, utilizing AI for motion tracking and identification, and CV90 also supports Battleview 360.

⬇️12/ Image
Now turret. With D-series, commander has his EOPS on telescopic mast. It can work as standard commander sight, or in autonomous mode, where it can scan for aerial targets (drones) in 360 degrees. CV9030CZ is using CMS-1 from Czech company EVPÚ Defence. It has HD camera,...

⬇️13/ Image
Cooled IR camera and Laser rangefinder.

Thanks to telescopic EOPS, CV9030CZ can stay hidden behind obstacles, while it acquires targets and engages them with Spikes.

To continue. On the turret there are 4x sensoric units of laser and radar warning system LAWAREC,

⬇️14/ Image
Once again made by 🇨🇿 EVPÚ Defence.

Of course, CV90Mk.IV also comes with APS Iron First, therefore, 360° coverage, 4x EO sensors that detect nearby threats, automatically spot enemy fire (including flashes from small arms fire), and serve as an passive detection for APS

⬇️15/ Image
Then there are 4x aCHR radars from DRS Rada Technologies (part of Leonardo). Interesting part, not only that they serve as an active detection for APS, but they also detect, track and help engage aerial targets, including smallest drones.

⬇️16/
Image
Image
This in combination with FCS, programmable ABM, and gunner sight UTAAS, makes every CV9030CZ a capable C-UAS asset.

Now lets turn to mobility.

CV9030CZ is propelled by Scania DP V8 engine with maximum output of 1000 hp. In combination with Perkins X300 transmission,

⬇️17/ Image
CRT's (composite rubber tracks from Soucy Defence) comparatively low weight and active dampening suspension system inspired by F1 racing cars. CV9030CZ will have stellar mobility, speed of 70km/h on road and cross-country speed of 40km/h. Its crusing range on road is 900km

⬇️18/ Image
Basic combat weight is 30 tonnes, with gross weight being 38 tonnes - yet currently BAE Hagglunds is working to increase it to 40 tonnes. This weight can be used to increase armor protection (among other things). Basic armor package comes at Stanag 4569 Annex A Level 5++

⬇️19/ Image
And Annex B level 3a+/3b+. BAE Hagglunds according to some rumours is currently working on new generation of AMAP - modular armor package, you can get the idea from Swedish Strf9040C (on pic).

Keep in mind that combat weight of Strf9040C (Mk.0) is about 29 tonnes,

⬇️20/ Image
With 38-40 tonnes (and newer armor technology), CV9030CZ can be armored substantially better if the need arises (or during an mid-life upgrade) - even the Strf9040C is now performing well in Ukraine (in terms of crew protection, mobility, etc)

⬇️21/ Image
But back to CV9030CZ. New IFV's will come equipped with Czech multispectral camouflage from BOIS company, mainly in woodland and winter variants (also few desert ones).

You can see woodland variant here on this Tatra 815-7 8x8.

⬇️22/ Image
Czech CV90's will also be equipped with said domestic C-RCIED and C-UAS radio signal jammers from URC Systems.

Now lets wrap things up.

1) The C-UAS. With passive and active detection (including radars), dedicated anti-aircraft mode on gunner sight and FCS,

⬇️23/ Image
Air-burst munition compatibility and radio jammers. CV9030CZ will be one of the best prepared IFV's out there when it comes to aerial threats. If one vehicle in the platoon will be unable to fire, it will simply send fire solution to other vehicles that will engage.

⬇️24/ Image
2) Having a 5th generation of a weapon system has its perks. CV90 is constantly improved and proven platform, that saw fighting in Afghanistan and now in Ukraine. We are talking about hundreds of hours of R&D based on end users real life experience. And that is invaluable

⬇️25/ Image
This also includes already solved supply chain, service procedures, operational knowledge and with the rising number of users, this shared knowledge and experience will only increase

⬇️26/ Image
3) Future proofed. With several tonnes to spare (from basic config, 8-10 tonnes, depending if the max weight will be increased to 40t), addon solutions can be applied during its life cycle, and new 4th generation NATO NGVA compliant electronic architecture makes sure that

⬇️27/
Integration of new NATO HW and SW will be without much troubles.

4) Protection. Centre of CV9030CZ protection will be DAS (defensive aid suite - standard of Mk.IV). DAS integrates all sensoric and defensive equipment and helps the crew thanks to machine learning and AI.

⬇️28/ Image
For example, it identifies threats, launches countermeasures and also gives the driver safe exit route away from the danger. Thanks to the complex situational awareness suite, APS, and C4ISTAR (interconnection between vehicles and optionaly their inf. elements),

⬇️29/
, ensuring the tactical superiority over less advanced adversaries, CV9030CZ should be able to dominate against older enemy vehicles and be on par with newest western IFV designs. Its armor package is scalable and more than sufficient if the spare weight is utilized.

⬇️30/
5) Complex package. Czech CV90 program includes 29 8x8 mobile workshops, simulation centre (to be designed and made by Czech VR Group company) and other support equipment. With 7 versions (combat, command, recon, ambulance, ARV, AEV and FAO)

⬇️31/ Image
it is a full package to ensure that 7th mechanized brigade will have the needed gear to operate in multinational environment and provide the needed capability, and that it will also have the hardware needed to remain operational - other assets will be added from CS and CSS

⬇️32/
Now. Few more points before we end. The CV9030CZ will utilize Hunter-killer (meaning the commander can take control of the main gun from gunner), so the CMS-1 can serve as a reserve sight for the shooting.

⬇️33/
Still, on this model of CV9030CZ I am missing the optical reserve sight that is usually under the barrel (case of CV9035DK, CV9030N, even the first model of CV9030CZ, etc.). BUT, keep in mind that this is still a model and more changes can happen.

⬇️34/ Image
(looking here at the smoke dischargers on the turret model during last visit of Czech soldiers to BAE Hagglunds).

Main gun cover is changed compared to initial model of CV9030CZ, not a bad thing, this looks less "modern", but practical.

⬇️35/ Image
Overall, Mk.44 autocannon has different position in D-series turret compared to older E-series, as it is put more to the front, to increase elevation (for C-UAS and general AA function) and to increase the internal space in the turret. Therefore it looks "longer".

⬇️36/ Image
What I like, both CMS-1 and gunner sight have wipers. Nice detail. Useful one. Also. This model of CV9030CZ has catcher for empty shells from 7,62x51 MG. Recently seen on CV9035 Mk.IV presentation model shown in Denmark

⬇️37/ Image
While the CV90 is with us for some time, the changes on Mk.IV makes it basically a new vehicle, and the CV90 itself is a good construction. Actively cooled frontal drive, cooled exhaust running to the back, cooled engine compartment (all to minimize its thermal trace

⬇️38/
When looking from the front)

Engine and transmission are enhancing protection from the front, fuel tank and engine + exhaust cooling on the sides together with hull, are made in such a way that you are getting spaced armor effect on both sides.

⬇️39/ Image
Plus there are external equipment boxes all around the vehicle

Its mobility, easy operation, durability, lower weight and smaller dimensions, makes it an ideal vehicle for the tasks that Czech Army needs it to do. Things like railway transport, fuel consumption. It matters

⬇️40 Image
And CV90 performs well while managing to have lower logistic footprint (and yes, it is great that CRT tracks were chosen for Mk.IV so that the Czechia gets them too. Their benefits when compared to classic steel tracks are truly remarkable).

⬇️41/ Image
Also, fleet to safely transport them so they get enhanced operational/strategic mobility is currently being build. Main workhorse for fixed roads will be Scania as it seems to be. All the rest, Tatra.

⬇️42/

Image
Image
Image
Image
For C2, 7th mechanized brigade is already receiving new Titus 6x6 CZ in signals and staff-command variants. There are also newer cisterns, such as CAP-6M1 4x4. Leguan Assault bridges are to be acquired both on wheeled and tracked platform.

⬇️43/

Image
Image
Image
Image
CV9030CZ will be able to transport 8-member infantry element. First CV90CZ (Mk.IV) will arrive to Czechia in 2026, last one in 2030, 74th mechanized battalion will be the first one to get them. In the end, 71st, 72nd and 74th mechanized battalions

⬇️44/ Image
73rd tank btn has one mechanized company that will be rearmed as well. About 73rd tank btn and MBTs. Quick sidenote. Czechia wants acquire up to 77 Leopards 2A8 (support versions included) and is close to have 42 Leopards 2A4 + 3 BPz3 Buffels

⬇️45/
Image
Image
*will be fully rearmed
Is without saying that new generation IFV is one of the most important projects of Czech Armed Forces modernization, because the curently operated BVP-2 are hopelessly obsolete.

⬇️46/

Image
Image
Image
Image
I think it can be even argued that CV9030CZ is currently the most crucial project of Czech Land Forces, given that a good IFV is a backbone of any military medium/heavy formations and universal fighting machine, capable of anti-personnel, anti-armor and in case of CV9030CZ

⬇️47/
, also limited anti-aircraft (mainly C-UAS) warfare. Good IFV with right support assets, like artillery, electronic warfare, ISR elements and engineering is able to work miracles in high-intensity maneuver warfare in close cooperation with its mechanized infantry

⬇️48/

Image
Image
Image
Image
I am personally very happy, that CV90 has been chosen at the end. Soon there will be 9 users in NATO, 11 users in Europe, and orders for more are piling up, as it is entirely possible that soon there will be around 2000 CV90's in service.

⬇️49/ Image
BAE Hagglunds is also increasing its production capacity in coordination with its industrial partners (now Czech Defense Industry as well, but more about that in part 2) and is expecting to be making around 360 new CV90's per year in Ornskoldsvik factory.

⬇️50/
Plus modernization for Netherlands Royal Army and possibly other customers will happen in Netherlands.

360 new + modernizations. That is a lot for European standards.

Czech industry will also participate. As it will produce D-series turrets, mechanical parts even for

⬇️51/
New Swedish support variants CV90 (this in coordination with Norwegian Ritek) and Czech company Retia will produce UTAAS sights for all CV90 users.

Czech Defence industry will also take care of said simulation centre and will develop two new variants, that it will own.

⬇️52/

Image
Image
Image
Simply said, if then any CV90 user will want to acquire FAO or ambulance versions, they will have the possibility of utilizing Czech versions (meaning more money for Czech companies). But more about that in part 2.

⬇️53/
To finally end this already veery long thread.

Czechia will receive 246, (of them 200 combat - with turret, rest in APC support configuration) top notch, APS equipped IFV'S, 29 mobile workshops, simulation centre, larger offset program, over 40% of the production will be

⬇️54
Done domestically. And all of that for 59 bilion CZK (2,6 bln USD)

Good choice by 🇨🇿 MoD as the Czech military will be the second largest operator (after 🇸🇪) of CV90's in the world. Price/performance ratio is superb here.

3 years...

It was on 24th February 2022 when I stayed awake and in the late night/early morning I saw first videos of Russian invasion into a sovereign state.... Russia attacked its neighbour. After Russians have been telling for months, that they won't and its just...

⬇️1/x
"scare tactics" and "war mongering" of the West... Well. Russians lied in 2014, in 2022 and they will continue to do so. Treaties are just a piece of paper.

Europe has changed that day. Sadly. We had 3 years. Yet changes, are only coming slowly...

We still don't treat this seriously enough at many levels and in many states yet the threat is very real

Aggressor isn't intimidated by promises, grandiose speeches or empty words. He is intimidated by actions, determination and real industrial and military capabilities

MAD21, Maskovací Design 21 (camouflage design 21)

This camouflage should be fielded in 2026 as a new and standard camouflage pattern of 🇨🇿 Armed Forces

It will replace current Vz.95 that has been in service since 1995

Winter variant of MAD21, MAD21Z is also in development

⬇️ Image

New informations THREAD

#CzechCV90Saga Image
1) EW suite. Both Czech and Slovak CV90 (CV9030CZ and CV9035SK) will utilize anti-drone and C-RCIED jammers from URC Systems and Jisr Institute 🇨🇿. These along with other solutions are deployed all around the vehicle, including both turret and hull.

⬇️2/x Image

Of course I had to forget something. And something important...

🇨🇿 MoD was able to obtain CV90 full license for domestic use that is worth about 10 bln CZK (440 mil USD)

This means that MoD (and its state companies and private subcontractors) can repair, modify, develop,

⬇️1/5
and also build new CV90´s for the needs of Czech Armed Forces. This is one of the key aspects of strategic security and domestic sustainability of the CV90 fleet during the whole lifecycle.

According to 🇨🇿 defence minister Jana Černochová.

⬇️2/5
Ths was the last part, and the hardest part of the negotiations with BAE Systems, but it was absolutely crucial, because in her view and the view of the MoD

"We as a state cant be reliant (and blackmailable) on private subjects. License must be owned by the state or
