Interesting comments by Kyrylo Budanov:

- Russia aims to conclude the war by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026, seeking to achieve a victory. Russia will face significant economic challenges starting in the summer of 2025. 1/14⬇️ Image
Russia will need to conduct another round of mobilization. This, in turn, could undermine the country's social and political stability. 2/14
if Russia does not secure victory, it will lose its long-term ambition of being perceived as a superpower over the next 30 years - said Budanov, referencing Russian intelligence sources. 3/14
Russia expects "all their problems will begin in the summer of 2025," as financial, economic, and socio-political factors converge. Russia is currently managing the worsening economic situation, it is aware that the ongoing recession, already severe, continues to deepen. 4/14
But this is still far from the peak. They predict that by the summer of 2025, the negative economic impact will become starkly evident" 5/14
Russia is accelerating various processes in an effort to mitigate these effects and navigate the crisis, aiming to conclude the war on favorable terms. 6/14
Russia is increasingly facing the challenge of insufficient army recruitment. "By the summer of 2025, they will confront a critical dilemma either announce another mobilization or reduce the intensity of hostilities, both of which could prove decisive for their military strategy"
Despite official rhetoric, war fatigue is real in Russia, as the conflict has impacted a significant portion of the population.

Budanov acknowledged that some Russians are pleased with the aggressor’s gains, having captured more than 30% of Ukraine. 8/14
They are attracted by the high salaries in the Russian army. However, the number of volunteers is dwindling, prompting the Russian government to offer one-time payments of up to 48,000 USD upon signing a contract. 9/14
Ukraine’s efforts to bring hostilities deeper into Russian territory have also impacted the social and psychological state of the Russian population. "It changed their worldview," he noted. 10/14
"Previously, the Russian population lived under the belief that, no matter what, we are a very powerful country, the strongest in the world. But with the first explosions in Moscow and other parts of Russia, this myth was shattered." 11/14
Referring to obtained documents, Budanov explained that if Russia fails to achieve victory by the end of 2025, it risks losing its status as a global power. 12/14
"They understand this very clearly. This is a critical period for them," Budanov remarked. "That’s why they will do everything in their power to secure what they perceive as a victory. 13/14
Failing that, Russia risks being excluded from all global processes entirely. The best they could hope for in that scenario is regional leadership, and that is not acceptable to them." 14/14

Russia is likely facing a manpower shortage that could affect its ability to sustain the war against Ukraine later this year and into the next.

Kremlin launched an unprecedented ad campaign for contract service recruitment following Ukraine's offensive in Kursk Oblast. 1/11⬇️ Image
In July, Moscow de facto acknowledged a 30% reduction in the rate of new military recruitment. By the end of the month, Vladimir Putin increased war-related payments, with compensation rising by 400% in the poorest regions. 2/11
Agentstvo notes that the largest contract service recruitment campaign since the start of the war is being conducted across Telegram, Yandex, VKontakte, and federal channels. 3/11

Ukraine's OpSec in planning the Kursk operation has been spectacular. WSJ obtained new details of the operation:

CinC Syrskyi gathered senior officers for a secret meeting in late July where he disclosed an audacious plan to revive the country’s flagging war effort. 1/10⬇️ Image
Syrskiy had evidently drawn conclusions from Ukraine’s failed counteroffensive during the summer of 2023, when Ukraine consulted with the U.S. and other Western partners, deployed newly formed brigades and telegraphed its plans with videos and public comments. 2/10
Only a small number of senior officers took part in the meetings, led by Syrskiy, to thrash out detailed plans for the incursion. Syrskiy tapped battle-hardened units, such as the 80th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades, to lead the incursion and didn’t inform the U.S. of plans. 3/10

Very insightful details from CinC Oleksandr Syrskyi regarding the objectives of Ukraine’s Kursk operation

One of the objectives of the Kursk operation was to divert significant enemy forces from other axes, particularly in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhovsk areas. 1/7 ⬇️ Image
Russians are aware of this and is therefore focusing its main efforts on the Pokrovsk area, where its most combat-ready units are concentrated. 2/7
“The enemy is advancing at a very high price, the Defense Forces are doing everything possible to stop the advance. Every day our soldiers neutralize up to 300 invaders. The situation is under our control, the command is doing everything possible to stabilize the front” 3/7

Moscow is unlikely to redirect forces from key sectors in Donbas to counter the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk Oblast. Instead, Russia is sending more conscripts to defend its frontlines in Kursk. 1/8 Image
Around 300 Russian conscripts either died or were captured in Kursk Oblast. On August 24, Russia and Ukraine carried out a prisoner exchange in a "115 for 115" format. According to Russian ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, all of the Russian prisoners exchanged were conscripts. 2/8
By August 16, nine regions — from Kaliningrad to Irkutsk Oblast — had already reported sending or preparing to send conscripts to Kursk Oblast. Kemerovo Oblast soon followed suit. 3/8

New details from Zelenskyy regarding Ukraine's Kursk offensive:

Ukraine's Kursk Oblast operation thwarted Russia's plans to occupy Sumy. 1/7⬇️ Image
I am very positive about how the operation in Kursk is going. Although the operation is complex, it's crucial that it is proceeding according to our plan. 2/7
There are several outcomes of this operation, but I can't discuss all of them. First and foremost, the "exchange fund" this is something that can be mentioned openly. It is being replenished, which is a positive development. 3/7
