1/When every Russia proxy is lighting up with the same message ("this means WW III"; "Russia will nuke the world") please know they have been pushing this same line of messaging for 75+ years. See this from 1982. Image
2/To understand this properly, it's necessary to understand the concepts of power projection and "Russkiy Mir." "Mir" means both "peace" and "world." Russia projects its demand for "peace" because it demands compliance by the *world*. It is blackmail.

3/Well-meaning, malinformed people in the West have been suckered by this false notion of "peace" peddled by Russian intelligence for decades. Putin's brand of this is just the latest iteration of this trickery. "We want what we want. And if we don't get 'peace,' we'll nuke you."
4/It is foolish to succumb to this line of argument and indeed it has not evolved AT ALL. The only thing that's different is that the people who knew this stuff are mostly dead, and many folks in policy and media are undereducated.
And yeah, Betty Bumpers and Teresa Heinz were doing the USSR's bidding, whether they realized it or not. That history is well-understood at this point.
Also: the USSR was functionally more concerned about power than ideology, and it projected power into the West via “transmission belts” like the KGB. This is where Putin cut his teeth and everything he’s doing is continuation, expansion, and culmination of that work.

1/It seems that X (formerly Twitter) is ignoring several laws that will soon be taking effect regarding social media worldwide, including in several US states, the EU, Vietnam and other countries.

Where other countries are making efforts to comply and have shared…
2/their compliance plans, X has so far done … nothing, it seems. It is reasonable to expect that X will incur fines and possibly bans in many jurisdictions, as their noncompliance and apparent defiance becomes fully clear to regulators and legislators.
3/Based on their current track record, X is likely to complain that they are being persecuted on “free speech” grounds, when the truth is really that they have ignored the law and are potentially too understaffed to comply. Worse, they seem to have no intent to comply anyway.

Tuesday thoughts, 'losing democracy' edition:

1. Many are worried about the idea of 'losing democracy' — in the abstract.

2. We need to look beyond institutional risks like election manipulation, judiciary capture, and lawfare.

3. We must resolve the debt ceiling situation — permanently.

4. We cannot continue to play Russian Roulette with the budget and debt ceiling every ~12-18 months, especially when ~30% of Congress is acting in bad faith.

5. Extremists like Musk, Thiel, Ron Paul, and Kash Patel have voiced support for financial and infrastructural terrorism.

6. Domestic extremists are aligned with our foreign adversaries as they both seek the same outcomes — collapse of US hegemony.

7. Our Constitution is full of holes, and the only thing that makes it work is the good faith efforts of Americans sworn to defend it.

Stability depends on a functional state and the rule of law. That only works if our Constitution is upheld, which depends on a society with shared values. A country at war with itself cannot endure. Condemn those who promote division. Onward!
Financial terrorism; war on the dollar.

Sunday thoughts, crypto-capture edition:

1. Bitcoin is a weapon.

2. Its purpose is to overthrow governments.

3. Crypto spending in this election cycle is greater than from any other source, including Big Oil.

4. The current price of Bitcoin is $58,000; if it goes up further, expect even more government capture and distortion.

5. Russia is officially adopting Bitcoin for financial transactions starting today, in response to Western sanctions.

6. The distorting effect of crypto cash on our political system via Citizens United and capture will continue unless it is stopped.

7. Crypto cash has captured members of ALL political parties — Republican, Democratic, and third parties.

This isn't "innovation," it is anti-democratic warfare. Every day we ignore this threat, the capture and corruption will get worse. We need to take a stand and crush the threat decisively. Bitcoin delenda est. Onward!
Crypto spending has outpaced oil and gas in this cycle, across candidates from every party.

Thursday thoughts, post-Putin edition:

1. Imagine a post-Putin, post-Musk, post-Trump future that you're excited about. Work to make it happen.

2. Cable news is anti-signal.

3. Americans have brainworms about 1) Kennedy assassination, 2) UFO's, 3) Vietnam — all of which were leveraged by the KGB to undermine faith in government.

4. Eugenics is more influential than people realize; many people really do believe they can breed their way to long-term strategic dominance.

5. Assume that everything you say on X might someday be used to put you in jail.

6. Make "X" Twitter again. Manifest a future where banks sell this hellsite to sane people.

7. Trump will lose his power when people believe he no longer has any.

Zoom out. Study history. Think slowly. We are being prodded constantly with stimuli by people who wish to control collective behavior. Take back your attention. Onward!
The Vietnam war was, indisputably, a horrible waste of lives. The KGB used everything about it to grind American brains, especially young peoples', into a fine powder. This little book review captures that history.
nytimes.com/1970/12/27/arc…
Mark Lane, the lawyer who also promulgated a raft of false JFK conspiracy theories, was paid for and fed info by the KGB. He wrote it up in a book that many believed. Neil Sheehan reviewed it for the times, calling it out as "irresponsible."

1/A lot of people confuse the right to free speech with a right to free amplification. The former is enshrined in the Constitution, the latter is not.
2/The Founders understood this. If you want to distribute crazy talk and disinformation, YOU pay for printing.

A lot of what we are debating now is whether people have the right to distribute their speech for free, or on any given platform. They emphatically do not.
3/You have a right to print leaflets, and walk around like a lunatic trying to distribute them.

Or to stand on a milk crate and shout at the pigeons.

You have no right to amplification, or even publication on a privately owned social media hellsite.

Dana Rohrabacher, Putin’s ally in Congress, wrote the legislation for Musk that made SpaceX possible ~25 years ago. Now ask why we have this unacceptable national security risk with Musk. The fact is, we sold out our space defense future to Putin.
Musk and Rohrabacher have been thick as thieves.
