🗳️ NEW: The Georgia Attorney General issued a stark warning to the MAGA Election Board today that their rules changes may exceed their authority & violate state law.

The AG's warning came just before the pro-Trump board's Friday meeting to further change election rules. ⬇️
First reported by @JustinGrayWSB, the letter notes "several of the proposed rules...likely exceed the Board’s statutory authority...appear to conflict with the statutes governing the conduct of elections.”

Full letter in WSB's article. ⬇️ wsbtv.com/news/local/atl…
@JustinGrayWSB In the AG’s letter, he cautioned the MAGA Board over new rules, including those on certifying results, hand-counting ballots, and reporting, could easily be challenged in court for being illegal under the Georgia Election Code.

@JustinGrayWSB The AG points out that these rules overstep the Election Board’s role. By adding new requirements not outlined by Georgia’s laws, the board is attempting to act beyond its legal power, violating clear limits set by the state legislature.
Image
Image
@JustinGrayWSB For example, the MAGA Election Board’s proposed rule on hand-counting ballots seems to contradict Georgia law, which mandates that ballots be processed by tabulation machines. This kind of overreach risks invalidating the rule and sparking lawsuits.

@JustinGrayWSB The AG also flagged the timing of the rule changes. Implementing new election rules so close to Election Day could create confusion and chaos, a risk that’s especially high given how the courts have warned against last-minute changes. Image
@JustinGrayWSB The Election Board's rule changes aren't just administrative overhauls.

They’re designed to give MAGA election deniers + pro-Trump local election officials more power to reject election results — a clear threat to the integrity of Georgia elections.
@JustinGrayWSB The pro-Trump Georgia Election Board has been engaged in a conspiracy, coordinating with MAGA election deniers (some who aided Trump's failed attempts to steal the 2020 election) and local election officials.

More on that here. ⬇️
@JustinGrayWSB The AG's letter also makes it clear: the Eleciton Board does not have the power to expand or alter statutory requirements. By attempting to do so, they’re treading into dangerous, illegal territory that could undermine confidence in the 2024 results. Image
@JustinGrayWSB The MAGA Election Board’s actions are setting the stage for confusion, chaos, and potential voter suppression in 2024.

But there’s one surefire way to stop this: turning out in huge numbers and making our voices heard at the ballot box, just like we did in 2020.
@JustinGrayWSB Don’t let the MAGA operation silence you. When we vote, we win, and Trump knows this.

Let’s show up in 2024, reject their election games, and protect American democracy from the man who said he'll terminate the constitution.

Make a plan to vote early. 🗳️ PeachVote.com

NEW: Standing before Georgia lawmakers last month, a known election conspiracy theorist dropped a bombshell:

“On September 10th, I received a call from an investigator with the Department of Justice.”

What he said next should alarm everyone. ⬇️
Mark Davis told lawmakers the DOJ was investigating his claim that hundreds of thousands of Georgians voted illegally.

Davis is a serial voter challenger.

Court filings show Georgia’s GOP Secretary of State investigated his past claims and found them 0% accurate. Image

Ed Martin, a Trump DOJ appointee and January 6 defender, is demanding immediate access to 148,000 Georgia 2020 ballots.

Martin appears to be using federal power to help far-right operatives legitimize debunked claims and set the stage for rewriting election rules ahead of 2026. Image

Setting the record straight:
Trump *cannot* cancel the 2026 midterms – but he *can* try to rig them.

Here’s how Trump and Republicans are trying to do it right now. ⬇️
In July, I wrote about Trump + White House officials pressuring GOP states to gerrymander congressional maps.

It started in Texas – now it’s spread. Some states passed maps (NC, MO), others are under pressure (NH, NE, IN).

They want to weaken our votes.
The Supreme Court could soon gut the Voting Rights Act in a case called Louisiana v. Callais.

If they do, Republicans supercharge their gerrymandering scheme to gain 19 more seats + lock in one-party rule for a generation.

I wrote about this for @slate.

NEW: Trump’s team is plotting to declare a fake national emergency to hijack elections.

One top operative says they can “take steps without Congress” and “mandate" election rules for states.

@NYTimes' investigation exposes the operatives and the takeover already underway. ⬇️ Image

Heather Honey (Trump DHS appointee) floated using national emergency powers to mandate election rules for states as early as March.

Honey is part of the Election Integrity Network, a group that spreads disinformation, pressures election officials & pushes to rig election rules. Image

Honey is well-known for spreading the false claim that Pennsylvania had “more votes than voters” – the same BS that Trump repeated on January 6th.

NYT: "The claim has been repeatedly disputed by election officials who said she was misinterpreting and misusing a state database"

NEW: Tomorrow the Supreme Court will rehear a case that could let the GOP grab 19 new, safe U.S. House seats by gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

I wrote for @Slate about how the far-right justices seem ready to help Republicans lock in one party rule for decades. ⬇️ Slate headline: The Supreme Court Might Net Republicans 19 Congressional Seats in One Fell Swoop
Slate article text: By taking the unusual step of reopening arguments, legal experts believe, the court’s far-right majority may have telegraphed its intent to dismantle Section 2. If it falls, the impact will reverberate far beyond Louisiana, reshaping political power across the entire country. Combined with Donald Trump and Republicans’ ongoing gerrymandering power grab, gutting Section 2 could help secure an additional 27 safe GOP U.S. House seats—at least 19 directly tied to the loss of Section 2. According to a new analysis from Fair Fight Action and Black Voters Matter Fund, it’s eno...
After a court found Louisiana’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voters’ power, the GOP legislature was ordered to draw a 2nd majority-Black district.

When they fixed the map, non-Black voters sued, saying fixing the discrimination was itself discrimination. Slate article text: Louisiana v. Callais began with a simple act of compliance. After a federal court found that the state’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voters’ power, Louisiana’s Republican Legislature was ordered to draw a second majority-Black district. The reason was clear: Although Black residents make up roughly a third of Louisiana’s population, they had been given a fair chance to elect a representative of their choice in just one of six congressional districts. When lawmakers finally followed the court’s order to fix their discriminatory map, they were p...
The argument's logic twists the 14th + 15th Amendments, created to protect voting rights, in an attempt to destroy them. It should've been laughed out of court.

But a lower court embraced it and an appeal was accepted by the Supreme Court. Louisiana Illuminator headline: Supreme Court takes up challenge to Louisiana congressional map

NEW: Next week, the Supreme Court will re-hear a case that could allow Republicans to create 19 new safe U.S. House seats by gutting what’s left of the Voting Rights Act.

The far-right majority may finally be ready to finish the VRA off.

Here’s what’s at stake. ⬇️ Image
This all started in 2022 when a court found Louisiana’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voting power.

The court ordered a fix: draw a second majority-Black district.

The GOP legislature complied – then was sued by non-Black voters. lailluminator.com/2025/08/06/how…
The case went to the Supreme Court and Louisiana defended its map.

But when SCOTUS didn't decide the case and called for a rehearing, Louisiana suddenly flipped their position.

Now, they've joined the push to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. politico.com/news/2025/08/2…

NEW: Today, the Republican Party is pushing a judge to jail Fulton County commissioners.

Why? They refuse to vote to appoint two far-right election denial activists to the Fulton County Election Board who have a history of undermining elections.

Here's what they had to say. ⬇️
Fulton County Commissioner @TheDanaBarrett:

When I ran for a seat on the county commission I never thought I’d be facing jail time for doing my job – but here we are. Elections are under attack all across this country.
@TheDanaBarrett .@TheDanaBarrett: One of the main reasons I ran…was because I am committed to defend the integrity of our elections in Fulton County -- the largest urban county in a swing state and a critical county in the fight for the future of our democracy.
