Rick and Morty has made over $200 million and been viewed over 10 billion times.

Dan Harmon the mastermind behind "Rick and Morty," swears by a storytelling method:

Story Circle.

Here's what it is, how you can use it for irresistible storytelling: Image
First off, what's the Story Circle?

It's Harmon's remix of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey.

The thing is, it's not just for TV shows or movies.

If you can tell stories, you can grab attention.

If you can grab attention, you have unlimited potential for influence.
The circle has 8 steps. Let's break 'em down:

1. A character is in a zone of comfort
2. But they want something
3. They enter an unfamiliar situation
4. Adapt to it
5. Get what they wanted
6. Pay a heavy price for it
7. Return to their familiar situation
8. Having changed
The story circle is about tapping into the primal circuits of the human brain.

It isn't linear. It's cyclical. Each ending is a new beginning.

This is why "Rick and Morty" is so addictive. Each episode is a complete circle, nested in larger season-long circles.
So how can we use this for ourselves?

In our content, ads, etc. here’s a simple breakdown:

Start with your audience as the hero.

What's their comfort zone?
What do they want?

Guide them through the circle. Aim to simply showing their relatable character to make a change. Image
Example: You're selling a fitness app.

1. Comfort: Unhealthy but comfortable lifestyle
2. Want: To get fit
3. Unfamiliar: Starting to use your app
4. Adapt: Learning new exercises, routines
5. Get: Achieving fitness goals
6. Price: Time, effort, lifestyle changes
7. Return: Back to daily life
8. Changed: Healthier, more confident
The magic happens in steps 6 and 8.

Show the price they pay, but emphasize the change.

This creates tension and resolution. This is the heart of good storytelling.
Pro tip:

Use this for your overall strategy AND individual pieces of content.

Your blog posts, videos, even tweets can follow this structure.

It's fractal. It works at every level.
Why is this so powerful?

Because it turns your content into a journey.

Your audience becomes the hero.

You're not selling. You're guiding.

And that's how you build loyalty and engagement.
If you carefully watch your favorite personal brands they all use this method.

The man with the highest ‘Hit Ratio’ in copywriting history, Eugene Schwartz.

85% of his ads generated millions.
1 his ads made $50M from a $25 book.
His book "Breakthrough Advertising" was so in-demand it sold for $900+ one point.

Here's a core framework he used: Image
First, who's Eugene Schwartz? He's the OG of copywriting.

Schwartz believed every prospect falls into one of 5 stages:

1. Unaware
2. Problem-Aware
3. Solution-Aware
4. Product-Aware
5. Most Aware

Knowing which stage your audience is in is key to crafting the perfect message. Image
If you’re a marketer with an ads background worth his salt you’ve probably heard of it.

Unfortunately, this is a place where a lot of creators forget.

So I’ll break it down:

2000+ years ago, he revealed the secrets to building influence.

Even in 2024 people like Trump, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg use them too.

Here's what they are, how to use them, and become a master of influence: Image
First off, what are these pillars?

Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and Kairos.

Fancy words, I know. But they're game-changers.

They're the building blocks of persuasion that can make or break your message. Image
Why should you care?

Because mastering these pillars can skyrocket your influence.

Whether you're pitching to investors, leading a team, or just trying to win an argument...

J.K. Rowling's writing journey is legendary.

It all started with a delayed train and a napkin.

I spent hours last week trying to find out how she crafted her story.

Here are lessons I learned on writing and life: Image
1/ Rowling's first Harry Potter idea came on a delayed train in 1990.

But here's the kicker: She didn't start writing immediately.

Instead, she spent 5 years planning the entire series in her head.

Lesson: Great ideas need time to marinate.
2/ Contrary to popular belief, Rowling didn't write in cafés because she was poor.

She did it because her daughter would only nap in a moving stroller.

So she'd walk until her kid fell asleep, then dash to a café to write.

Lesson: Creativity thrives on constraints. Image

Dieter Rams.

The man behind Apple's design philosophy and much of modern electronics.

He famously said: "Good design is as little design as possible."

10 principles of timeless design (and why they apply to your life and work): Image
In the 1960s, a young German designer joined Braun.

His name? Dieter Rams.

Little did he know, he'd soon revolutionize product design and influence tech giants like Apple decades later.
Rams had a wild idea:

What if products could be both functional AND beautiful?

Back then, most stuff was either practical but ugly, or pretty but useless.

Rams said, "Why not both?"

Robert McKee.

He’s the man behind many Hollywood blockbusters like:

• Toy Story
• A Beautiful Mind
• The Da Vinci Code

I had to find out how he does it.

Here’s what I learned about the story structure he uses: Image
Why should you care about McKee's principles?

Because stories are how we make sense of the world.

They're not just for movies

Steve Jobs used these principles in his product launches.

Politicians use them to win elections..

Master storytelling, and you master influence. Image
McKee's approach is built on three pillars:

1. Substance: The underlying theme
2. Structure: The three-act design
3. Style: The art of storytelling

Each pillar plays a crucial role in creating a story that resonates. Image

Tim Ferriss is proof that unconventional thinking leads to extraordinary results.

How?

• Won a National Kickboxing Championship
• Learned Japanese in a few months
• All while building to $100M+ networth.

Here are 5 strategies from him on unconventional lifestyle design: Image
1. Embrace "Fear-Setting" instead of goal-setting

Most people set goals. Tim does the opposite.

He imagines the worst-case scenarios in detail.

Why? It defuses the power of fear and helps you take bold action.
How to do it:

1. Write down your fears
2. List ways to prevent them
3. Think how you'd recover if they happened

Result? You realize most fears aren't that bad.

You become more willing to take risks and pursue big dreams.
