THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Harvard Medical School have developed a nasal spray that in preclinical studies, offered NEARLY 100% protection from respiratory infections by COVID-19, influenza, viruses, AND pneumonia-causing bacteria. Let’s talk about that! 🧵⬇️
Researchers are calling their discovery Pathogen Capture and Neutralizing Spray (PCANS). The results are published in the journal Advanced Materials. Yes, it is PEER-REVIEWED.

Researchers say the spray "coats the nasal cavity, capturing large respiratory droplets from the air, and serving as a physical barrier against a broad spectrum of viruses and bacteria, while rapidly neutralizing them with over 99.99% effectiveness."
In other words, it catches the viruses and bacteria at the typical point of entry into our bodies -the nose- and stops them there.

NOTE TO KEEP IN MIND. ‼️

THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTION FOR VACCINES.

This would be an added layer of protection.
There ARE some caveats. These results came from a study involving mice, not people. The study was conducted in a laboratory, not the outside world.

Nonetheless, the news IS promising. The product is fairly cheap, its ingredients are safe, and it might reduce our risk of
getting colds or flu during winter flu season ALONG WITH vaccines.

Researchers said the nasal spray reduced the load of viruses and bacteria - including Influenza A and B, SARS-CoV-2, RSV, adenovirus and a bacterial form of pneumonia- by over 99.99% and persisted in the nose
for eight hours.

It is the first such spray to come close to this type of protection. Previous sprays have provided between 20% and 70% protection.
The spray works by forming a protective coating (a gel-like matrix) on the nasal cavity, which captures airborne respiratory droplets and acts as a physical barrier against viruses and bacteria, while effectively neutralizing them. This gel doesn't affect the user's breathing.
Experiments in mice showed that a single dose of the PCANS nasal spray could effectively block infection from an influenza virus (PR8) at 25 times the lethal dose. Virus levels in the lungs were reduced by >99.99 percent, and the inflammatory cells and cytokines in the lungs of

PCANS-treated animals were normal.

While the study’s limitations include the lack of human studies of PCANS, it provides a strong foundation for future research to explore the full potential of PCANS in a broader context as it could play a key role in reducing respiratory
diseases and safeguarding public health against new threats. The researchers are exploring whether PCANS can also block allergens, opening a potential new avenue for allergy relief and will be moving forward in human clinical trials.

All immunity is natural, because your immune system is natural.

It is acquired either through infection or vaccination. Infection has more side effects, many of which are very bad and one of which is death.

Naturally, I choose to acquire my immunity through vaccination.
As originally stated by Dr. Rasmussen. I won’t tag her fully only because I don’t want to needlessly flood her mentions. I thought this was one of THE most influential statements regarding vaccination and immunity and that is why I wanted to share it today.
Recently, I have been getting a fair amount of questions regarding updated vaccines that are AVAILABLE NOW, timing, and current circulating SARS-CoV-2 strains so I figured an UPDATED thread would be helpful! 🧪🧵⬇️ KEY POINTS •The Food and Drug Administration approved updated Covid vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna AND Novavax putting the shots on track to reach most Americans in the coming days as the virus surges. •The jabs target a strain called KP.2, a descendant of the highly contagious omicron subvariant JN.1 (Novavax targets JN.1) that began circulating widely in the U.S. earlier this year. •The CDC recommended that everyone over 6 months old receive an updated Covid vaccine this year.

So, not COVID related BUT, this is REALLY exciting news. Interim data shows Moderna’s solid tumor vaccine candidate mRNA-4359, has shown early signs of efficacy AND activated key proteins to trigger an immune response for cancer killing cells.

Let’s talk about that! 🧵⬇️
Interim data from the Phase I dose escalation part of the mRNA cancer immunotherapy (mRNA-4359), has shown promise in patients with advanced solid cancers.

This investigational mRNA cancer immunotherapy is targeted for patients with lung cancer, melanoma and other solid tumors.
Nineteen patients with advanced stage cancers received between one and nine doses of mRNA-4359. Researchers found the immunotherapy created an immune response against cancer and was well tolerated, with adverse events including fatigue, injection site pain and fever.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at The University of Texas at Austin have discovered and isolated a broadly neutralizing plasma antibody, known as SC27, which has been shown to neutralize ALL known variants of SARS-CoV-2.

Let’s talk about that! 🧵⬇️
The study has been published in Cell Reports Medicine.

Graphical Abstract
Researchers say a newly discovered antibody could pave the way for vaccines or treatments that provide universal protection against all SARS-CoV-2 variants, along with other related viruses.

Researchers at UT Austin and several other universities collaborated on this new study

The FDA has approved and authorized UPDATED mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines. Novavax is still PENDING. The shots are formulated to target the "FLiRT" variants. KP.3 was identified this spring and has become the top variant since. This variant is part of the “FLiRT” family

Reminder. We DO have a vaccine for Mpox. It’s the Smallpox vaccine, which successfully eradicated a disease that killed more than 300 million people since 1900. A massive global vaccination campaign put an end to that disease in 1977. Please stop the misinformation.🧵⬇️
IMPORTANT NOTE. JYNNEOS (Imvanex, IMVAMUNE) is a non-replicating vaccine for smallpox that CAN BE USED SAFELY in immunocompromised individuals and individuals with skin conditions such as eczema against Mpox.

Mpox IS NOT NEW. It is an emerging zoonotic disease and is actually endemic in parts of Africa. Unfortunately, some individuals are behaving as if it has just been “discovered.” Mpox has been declared a PHEIC again due to an upsurge in cases IN and NEAR the DRC. PLEASE NOTE: Image

THIS IS HUGE! A new nasal COVID-19 vaccine BLOCKS transmission of the virus, according to a recent study out of Washington University. This suggests vaccines delivered directly to the nose or mouth could play a critical role in containing the spread of respiratory infections.🧵⬇️
The study has been published in Science Advances.
science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
A new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis indicates that next-generation vaccines that target the virus’s points of entry- the nose and mouth- may be able to do what traditional shots cannot: contain the spread of respiratory infections
