Rosh Hashanah at Chabad was incredible! The Shul was packed, spirits high & the food delicious.
Sadly, the holiday was marred by an issue Friday night.
While some Jewish children, including my own, played on the synagogue front porch, 3 college age men began screaming at them.
The grown men yelled jeers against Israel and Jews to the group of children, ages 4-8, the oldest of who impressively yelled back, "We Love Israel" & "Am Yisroel Chai".
My younger daughters were terrified and asked for a parent to stay on their bedroom in case the men returned.
This environment of hate does not happen in a vacuum.
These toxic conditions were made possible & encouraged by @universityofky, who've turned a blind eye to growing antisemitism on our campus.
An example of this is the celebration honoring the October 7th terrorists "martyrs".
When Jewish students been vocal about antisemitism, like bomb threats against their Center, Jewish students harassed & threatened, & vandalism, they have been ignored or worse.
Just this week, students from Chabad were excluded from a Rosh Hashanah event hosted by @UKYpres.
The fact that after a year of ignoring a massive surge of antisemitism on campus, @universityofky student groups are hosting a celebration of the Rapists & Killers of Oct 7th, while @jayblantonuk & @UKYpres turn a blind eye is shameful.
The message to Jewish students is clear.
The antisemitism problem at @universityofky are not anecdotal, they're institutional.
That's why Jewish students who speak out are excluded from @UKYpres's Rosh Hashanah party.
That's why in defiance of @kyoag, the University refuses to release open records to Jewish students.
It's why @universityofky is the largest school in the nation to not bother to wish their Jewish students well on Jewish holidays, despite being asked to.
It's why Pro-Hamas students feel comfortable celebrating rape & murder at the center of campus.
It can't continue this year.
We will continue to be a source of light & a home for Jewish students on campus.
We will continue to work to ensure Jewish students are safe & feel supported.
We won't back down to antisemitism from pro-Hamas students or @universityofky itself.
Am Yisroel Chai.
Shanah Tovah.

With the news that @UKCoachCalipari is moving to Arkansas, I have to share a story.
In 2018, I had a weekly appointment just nearby a coffee place.
I would begin my day grabbing a coffee before my appointment, coincidentally at the same time Coach Cal would grab his. 🧵 1/
We would greet each other every week, sharing a word or two about campus, sports, or other light conversations.
That all changed in the days after the Pittsburgh Massacre.
@UKCoachCalipari grew up in Pittsburgh, in Squirrel Hill, near Tree of Life. He knew that community. 2/
As @UKCoachCalipari entered the shop, he walked directly to my table.
He compassionately shared how horrified he was by the shooting, inquired how our community was, & how I was doing personally. He shared about his own connections to the city.
Earlier this week, provocateur Shmuly Boteach attacked the student group Chabad at Harvard & their Rabbi, Hershey Zarchi, for hosting President Claudia Gay for a Menorah lighting on campus.
While wild attacks are his norm, it was a shockingly hypocritical turn for Boteach. 🧵 1/
President Gay had come under calls for resignation for comments in the US House late last month, discussing campus antisemitism.
Despite Boteachs baseless claims of providing cover for the embattled president, Rabbi Zarchi powerfully addressed those concerns at the Ceremony. /2
It seemed preposterous to many that claims of providing cover were made by Boteach.
After all, only weeks ago, he was shilling for RFK Jr, after Kennedy made ridiculous antisemitic claims such as Covid 19 didn't harm Jews & that covid restrictions were worse than Anne Frank. 3/
My heart is shredded as I read reports of the vicious massacre that took place in the land of Israel.
The torture, rape and slaughter of infants, men, women, and children, just for being Jews, causes unimaginable pain.
The is pure, unadulterated evil, right before our eyes.
The last 3 days have been the bloodiest in Jewish history since the Nazis were defeated.
Over 1000 Jews have been brutally slain.
Now, these vile monsters who share the Nazis dream seek to annihilate the Jewish people living in the land of Israel, from the river to the sea.
Those same words of hate were shouted at antisemitic rallies in London, New York, Sydney, and even in my home of Lexington, where crowds gathered in support of the massacres and rapes.
Seeing people gather in support of such wanton butchery shocks the senses of any moral person.
Today, the 8th of October, is the 80th anniversary on the secular calendar of the most important & most effective Jewish protest in American history, commonly called the Rabbis March.
Sadly, much of the history of the remarkable event is ignored, so please read this short 🧵.
80 years ago today, as their communities prepared for the Day of Awe, over 400 Orthodox Rabbis traveled to Washington, as Esther had, to plead for their people.
In 1943, as the world watched unmoved by the crimes of Nazi Germany & her allies, these leaders couldn't remain quiet.
The march was led by Hillel Kook, the nephew of the chief Rabbi of Israel, who went by Peter Bergson.
As Jews were being annihilated in Europe, and the Roosevelt administration turned a blind eye in tacit support, a desperate move was needed for any hope of changing US policy.

Over the past week, the Chabad at UK Jewish Student Center received a series of messages threatening our Jewish community at the @universityofky.
The messages were reported to @lexkypolice, who acted quickly to address the situation, arresting the culprit Sunday evening. 🧵 1/
Several points are important to note.
1. While the @universityofky has again been silent in the face of antisemitism, the @lexkypolice have taken the issue extremely seriously. Our community is incredibly grateful for the quick response, and our students & community are safe. 2/
2. This hate does not represent our community.
In 2021, Kentucky was the first state in the nation to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, listening to the Jewish communities understanding of what Jew Hatred looks like. The support was unanimous. Kentucky rejects hate. 3/
