For those of you who need more info about just how unfit Mike Braun’s Lt Gov running mate candidate Micah Beckwith is, I’ve observed & interacted him for a few years, and here is a 🧵of my thoughts.
1/
He first caught my attention after losing the US Rep GOP primary to Spartz in May 2020, when he was promoting religious exemptions for COVID vaccines. He gained quite a following doing it.
He later compared getting a mandated vaccine to being raped on a podcast, saying it’s sticking something in your body that you don’t want, which is paramount to rape.
I’m sure actual rape survivors would like a word or 2 with him. Audio link below:
Then there were his comments the day after the January 6 insurrection in DC, recorded in his car, where he blasphemously proclaimed God had spoken to him & said he sent those riots. This is a cornerstone of Christian Nationalism:
He is a self-proclaimed Christian Nationalist, posting in a now private TikTok account the video below “3 Reasons Why You Should Be A Christian Nationalist.”
Project 2025 is the blueprint for Christian Nationalism.
5/
Then in 2022, he was appointed to fill a vacancy on the @HamiltonEastPL Board in a questionable manner by the Hamilton County Council, which began his crusade to rid the public library of “porn” for kids.
It was apparent to observers of bd mtgs that Beckwith was there as a culture warrior.
He was on his📱during mtgs & appeared to be texting constantly. His lack of interest in day to day function of the board was apparent & I documented it on Twitter.
After I posted that, Beckwith went on his FB page stating I was a failed leftist who was pro-pornography for kids, both of which are false. For a Christian pastor, his comments were petty & appalling.
At mtgs it appeared he wasn’t familiar w/the library he was governing.
There was a way for the public to request a 📕be removed but he & far-right mbrs established a collection development policy moving teen📚 to the adult section if they contained the criteria below.
9/
The new policy cost thousands & left barren shelves in the teen section while the policy was being implemented.
When a beloved teen 📕 by @johngreen -The Fault in Our Stars-was moved it finally caught the attention of ppl outside of our community.
Before it rec’d national attention Beckwith defended the collection dev policy, comparing it to keeping kids safe from wild animals & incorrectly stating a book killed 60M ppl.
Instead of owning the policy, Beckwith & other bd mbrs accused the Lib Dir of doing it on purpose despite following their rules & asking for clarification many times.
They voted to suspend the policy due to the uproar, after spending $300k on it.
Beckwith ultimately quit the library bd in January 2024 after he no longer had a majority of far-right bd members. He stated he wanted to concentrate on running for Lt. Governor.
After Beckwith resigned he devoted himself to getting votes for Lt. Gov in an unconventional manner. Not by working w/the Gov candidate to become his nominee, but by campaigning directly w/GOP delegates who voted for him instead of Braun’s pick.
So, if you are looking for a culture warrior who will continue to make the news with his Christian Nationalist views alongside Mike Braun & who will use his platform to be petty, divisive & take no responsibility for his actions, perhaps the Beckwith/Braun ticket is for you.
I am choosing Jennifer McCormick @mccormickforgov & Terry Goodin as Indiana’s leaders.
McCormick left the GOP when they moved to the far right & supports public educ.
She wants to move IN to the center so all voices are heard & won’t embarrass us.
Thx for reading.

I’m at the @HamiltonEastPL Board meeting that begins at 6:15pm. Bd Prez Ditlevson is participating via Zoom. Agenda is here: hepl.diligent.community/home/public/me…
Meeting has begun. Miksha moves to remove item 15.1 Collection Development Policy--Childhood Development Presentation due to just finding out the presenter & the topic.
Beckwith believes the presenter is appropriate.
The presenter is Dr. Dan Stock who was vocal during COVID at school board meetings. More info here:
Also, it’s worth noting the Beckwith/Stock connection:
Snapshot of Success first. HSEHS VB Coach Jason Young is reading off a list of scholarships that his team received to play VB at college & awards they’ve rec’d. Undefeated season & back-to-back State Championships!!
Rec’d this in the mail from my rep Todd Huston. I have no kids ⬇️ the age of 20 but he wants me to know he’s proud that vouchers r offered to those making 400% of the f/r lunch guidelines. A family of 4 making ~$220k can still get state subsidies for private schools.
But…
1/
To be eligible for help paying for childcare in Indiana, a family of 4 can’t make more than $33,300.
Is this really about helping kids or helping wealthy people/donors pay for private school for their kids and to prop up for-profit schools run by big $ donors?
2/
And note that “Students no longer have to fit in a pathway category such as attending a failing public school or having a disability to be eligible.”
This is subsidizing those that already go to private schools.
Private schools can also pick and choose who attends.
3/
Payne asks that the collection development policy be added to the agenda.
Beckwith is absent.
Public hearing on budget opens. No public comment. Hearing closes.
Next is public comment to the board, limited to 30 minutes total
1-Cathy Sutton-retired school librarian. Collection Dev big part of her job. Age appropriateness is important for schools. Consulted lots of reviews. 32 yrs & no parent reviews requested. TFIOS/Looking for Alaska we’re appropriate for her HS library
I’m at the @HamiltonEastPL Special Board Meeting at the Noblesville Branch. Pretty large crowd. hepl.lib.in.us/wp-content/upl…
Meeting has started. Michelle Payne asks that comments be moved to the beginning of the meeting. Motion seconded and approved. Agenda & attachments shown below.
No sign up for public speakers but some are allowed to talk.
First person likes collaboration going forward and doesn’t think facilitators should be hired for the listening sessions
🧵A thread on some background info regarding @HamiltonEastPL Bd, how we got here, and how many community mbrs have been speaking out about this for quite some time.
1/
This didn’t start with just moving books with violence & sex for teens. It started when 3 new bd mbrs were appointed last year - Ray Maddalone, Tiffany Ditlevson & Micah Beckwith.
The first target was LGBTQ books & book clubs
2/
When legal counsel told Maddalone that labeling/targeting those 📚 was not legal he wasn’t happy, but then moved on to get the current policy enacted.
New legal counsel was hired who would help the majority of bd mbrs find a way to legally move books they didn’t like.
