In a world where connectivity is everything, we simply had to do something for people who've been left with nothing.
Read on to learn about the #WorldMobile disaster relief efforts in the wake of #HurricaneHelene.
Last week, we received a message from World Mobile Ambassador @OceanicGoon, a North Carolina native who grew up in one of the hardest hit areas, close to #Asheville. The message was clear:
We need help.
The damage from #HurricaneHelene was unprecedented, striking homes & critical infrastructure. One of the biggest impacts was the loss of cellular services.
In rising flood waters, some locals couldn't even call 911.
On hearing this, 'Operation: Connect the Disconnected' was born. With support from @IOHK_Charles, we sent a team equipped with Portal 180 AirNodes utilising @Starlink backhaul to the hardest hit locations via Black Hawk helicopter.
The mission was clear, transform limited-range Starlink wifi devices into cellular services that cover up to a mile, enabling connectivity for hundreds of users.
Working with the disaster relief team, we identified a number of key locations, working through the night to deploy multiple AirNodes, with some deployments being achieved in just over 30 minutes from landing.
SIMs and eSIMs were gifted to the survivors, some of whom were able to connect for the first time since the tragedy unfolded.
While we're grateful to have enabled hard-hit communities to get connected, the mission has only just begun.
We'll be sharing details of how you can support helping to
connect the disconnected victims of Helene in the coming days.
Because together, we're unstoppable.

In 2023, we launched commercial services in Zanzibar, offering a price per GB that was up to 50% more affordable than the market average.
In 2024, we launched wireless internet packages in the USA, that were 60% more affordable than our closest competitor.

DePIN networks, like ours, leverage decentralised infrastructure, reducing reliance on traditional telcos. This cuts out middlemen and lowers overhead costs. π°β¬οΈ
By using shared infrastructure and incentivising community participation, DePIN operators can spread costs across a wider network of stakeholders. π€π
π€ We're delighted to announce that @NuvolaDigital has joined the World Mobile partner program as a Distribution Partner for Batch Two, Drop One and beyond.
𧡠Learn more about this partnership below π
π‘ Nuvola Explained
Nuvola Digital is an advanced platform that democratises access to decentralised network rewards through a crowd-share model.
Their robust node infrastructure ensures seamless participation in decentralised networks without requiring technical knowledge.
π€ The Partnership
Nuvola has committed to securing an allocation of AirNodes from Batch Two, Drop One providing their community members access to the sharing economy.
This model will help to accelerate the growth of World Mobile's sharing economy in the US and beyond.
Did you know decentralized wireless, also known as DeWi, is revolutionizing the way we connect to the internet?
Here are 8 reasons why #DeWi is the future of telecommunications π
1. Increased security π
With no central point of control, there are fewer attack vectors for hackers to exploit. This means your data is much safer on a decentralized network.
2. Greater resilience πͺ
If a node in a decentralized network goes offline, the network continues to function as the data is stored and distributed among other nodes.
The mobile app will allow B2C customers to purchase data bundles directly with mobile money, or through the purchase of airtime vouchers in local stores.
In addition, the app will allow network users to manage their data bundles and credit balance.
