Yesterday we read in Psalm 23 about how the Lord is always with us. He provides us with everything that we need, including the strength to carry on even when we think that everything is falling apart. Today we will see how those dark times in the valleys can actually be the
moments when we are blessed the most.
First, it is important for us all to remember that as children of God, He has given us all a very unique and important purpose in His kingdom. The Lord did this before we were even born because He already knew what we would eventually do.
Unfortunately, Satan also knows. He doesn’t know the details of God’s plan for each of us, but Satan already knows how this story is ultimately going to end (it will NOT be good for him or his followers). He wants to deter or to eliminate those of us who are a threat to him.
So he throws horrible problems and trials at us in an effort to make us lose hope and turn away from God.
But remember that the Lord already knows everything including Satan’s plans of attack. The Lord uses those attacks or times in the valley to actually strengthen us in our
faith much more than we were before. We come out as stronger warriors with a better appreciation and understanding of what Psalm 23 is talking about. We come out better prepared for the future attacks and problems that Satan will continue to throw at us. We come out prepared to
encourage others. We begin to see that these attacks are also a great blessing because they serve to confirm our faith.
You see, the attacks of Satan against us demonstrate that he considers us to be a serious threat to his evil kingdom. If he didn’t perceive that the power of
the Lord living through our lives was a serious threat to him, then Satan wouldn’t waste his time trying to stop us. So the absence of any problems at all for us in this world should actually cause us to ask the Lord if we are truly His. Remember that He promised that we would
indeed have problems in this world. Once again, He already knew.
As the Lord woke me up and placed this message on my heart this morning, it occurred to me that it is an important part of my own testimony. Those of you who are familiar with it know that my deepest and darkest
valley was that day many years ago when doctors found that massive tumor in my brain. I perceived it at the time as the worst valley, but now I look back at it as the best blessing that I have ever received. Through it the Lord demonstrated that he was with and had a purpose for
me.
Now let’s read how the half-brother of Jesus describes this at the beginning of James chapter 1.
Profiting from Trials
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its
perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of
the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. - James 1:2-8

God Uses the Evil Attempts of Satan
Today James (the half-brother of Jesus) reassures us of a well-known saying of the apostle Paul. In Romans 8:28 Paul says that “God works all things for good for those who love Him and are the called according to His purpose.” In today’s scripture verses, James will remind us of
the same thing using different words.
But James also goes on to expand on this theme of how God even uses evil that surrounds us for good. You see, he makes it very clear that God does not cause the evil. He is not able to do that because there is absolutely no darkness or

The Results of Forsaking the LORD
Today we will read a very short and somber bible passage that shows what the results are when we forsake God’s protection, help and counsel. Saul, the first king of Israel is the example that God uses to illustrate this point.
The bible talks a lot about how much God protects
His people, fighting all of their battles and providing for them. He truly never loses and is our shield and fortress. But God never forces anyone to receive His blessings. We have to choose to be with Him, to seek only Him for counsel and then to do what He says. Saul didn’t do

The Lord’s Challenge and Our Response
Simple Reasoning for the Believer
These are the words that the Lord placed into my mind early this morning. Based on the Word of God, they are simple truths. Like all of the bible, they are meant to be very personal as He speaks to us and we respond.
This is my reasoning and how I will respond:
The Lord is my
faithful protector, defender and provider. Therefore I will never lack for any good thing. He knows what I need and He provides it everyday just when I need it and even when I don’t appreciate it.
He orders my steps and points me in the direction where I am supposed to go in
This is the theme that the Lord placed on my heart as He woke up this morning. It is a brief discussion about the importance of who God says we (His children) are as opposed to who the world says we are. I want to explore three very famous people in the bible and talk about
something that they all have in common with the significance of their names. They are Abraham, Israel and Paul.
As we probably all recognize, these are all men whose names were changed after significant encounters with God. The message that the Lord gave me this morning is that

People Will Disappoint – But God Is Faithful
Today’s devotional scripture is a look into the intimate and vulnerable side of the great apostle Paul. As he continues to pour into Timothy, Paul warns him to beware of people, even those with the best of intentions and many who we count as close friends and companions. He says
that they will often disappoint and abandon us. The life of Jesus is also an excellent example of this. At the time of His earthly life when Jesus as a man most needed the ones who were closest to Him, they were not there for Him. At best, they simply abandoned Him. At worst,

The Sword of the Spirit in Our Lives
The Word of God is indeed alive and active in our lives. Hebrews 4:12 describes how it is a unique and powerful book that actually reads us (as opposed to us reading it). As we grow in our belief of the Lord and hunger for His Word everyday, we begin to notice this pattern of how
He sends it to us in ways that are very personal and timely to help us.
The power and effectiveness of God’s word is also very evident during times of trouble and persecution. Remember that the Lord promised us that we would have troubles in this life. But He also promised that
