There’s a New Moon in Scorpio arriving tomorrow on the 1st day of November and it’s not hyperbole to say that it’s bringing with it profound transformations on a personal and a collective level. The implications of these transformations are complicated and require some unpacking so let’s get to it.

Consider this:

For the past several weeks, Pluto - the planet of transformation, rebirth, secrecy and death - has been sitting in the final degree of Capricorn. When planets sit in the final degree of a sign - also known as the anaretic degree - they create a destabilizing effect on the significations of the sign that it’s in. Because Capricorn represents authority, government, and top-down power structures, it’s one of the reasons why our collective distrust of our political “leaders” has never felt greater.

At the time of this Scorpio New Moon , Mars - the planet of violence, anger, willpower and aggression - will also be in the anaretic degree, but in Cancer. Since Cancer represents the home, family and our sense of safety, Mars currently being in the final degree of Cancer is destabilizing these areas of our lives. During this New Moon, Pluto in Capricorn in the anaretic degree will be opposing Mars in Cancer also in the anaretic degree. When planets oppose each other, it’s like taking a rubber-band and stretching it apart before it snaps. This Mars - Pluto opposition has been active for the last few weeks, and by tomorrow’s New Moon it will be almost exact and it will go exact on November 3rd, two days before the US election.

It feels quite fated that this opposition will be occurring so near the election. Mars is considered to the the traditional ruler of Scorpio and Pluto is considered to be Scorpio’s modern ruler, so this opposition in many ways captures the feelings of suffocating tension / fear / anger / powerlessness that have been swirling within the collective for some time now. What’s even more significant is that Pluto will finally be leaving Capricorn for good on November 19th and will be entering Aquarius for the next 20 years. History has proven that when Pluto enters Aquarius, revolution is not far behind it. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was from 1778 - 1798, and during that time there was the American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Haitian Revolution.

This New Moon in Scorpio will be happening at 9 degrees of Scorpio, so people with planets and angles ranging from 6-12 degrees in the fixed signs {Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, Aquarius} will really be feeling this New Moon. But also, because the major signature of this New Moon is this Mars - Pluto opposition, people who have planets or angles in the final degrees of the cardinal signs {Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn}, have already been going through it for a bit and it will most likely be peaking over the next few days. No joke, if you have planets or angles in the late degrees of the cardinal signs, I hope you’re giving yourself as much patience and grace as you can muster right now, because that opposition has most likely been creating some havoc within your life.

Lastly, many of the astrologers who I look up to and learn from have been saying all year that it’s not easy to say who will win this election, but it’s clear that the energy around this election is violent and dangerous. I’m not trying to fear-monger, but that’s the honest read. Late-stage capitalism is not pretty and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ve surely been witnessing the evidence of dying imperialistic empires all around the world. What’s real is that most things become even more erratic and unpredictable and desperate when they’re grasping for their final breaths, so I try to keep that in mind when I see so much chaos happening. Remember: the phoenix wouldn’t exist without the flames of death. We will rise again. And when Pluto enters Aquarius on November 19th, it will be wearing the garment of revolution and I hope you’re on the side that values the sacredness of All human life and not just some.
