🇸🇪 government today decided to reject the applications of 13 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, while granting one (Poseidon) on the Swedish west coast. The reaction time in the event of a missile attack could go from 2 minutes to 60 seconds with wind farms in the way. (1/4)
With war in close vicinity, Sweden finds itself in a serious security situation. Defence interests must carry significant weight when these kinds of decisions are made. We also have a special responsibility within NATO for security in the Baltic Sea. (2/4)
It is especially important for the Swedish Armed Forces to be able to operate at full capability in those areas of the Baltic Sea where applications now have been rejected. The proximity to the heavily militarized Kaliningrad area is also important in this context. (3/4)
The wind farms could also lead to reduced intelligence-gathering capabilities & disrupt sensors used to detect submarines. Based on the assessment of the Armed forces, building offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea would have unacceptable consequences for Swedish security. (4/4)

Today we announce that the 🇸🇪government will increase the Swedish military budget next year by 13 billion SEK (+10%), bringing the total amount to 138 billion SEK. Sweden’s military budget will therefore reach 2,4% of GDP in 2025. (1/7)
In 2024 the military budget grew by 28%, and in 2025 it will grow an additional 10%. The security situation demands further increases and Sweden will answer to that task. It’s important that European allies inside NATO assume a larger responsibility for Europe’s security. (2/7)
Sweden will reach its requirement targets for officers (10k) and full-time/part-time active personnel (10k) in 2025 and is on course to conscript 8000 recruits next year. (3/7)
The government today presents a new military support package to Ukraine worth approx. 445 million USD. We continue to go from donation to the production of arms to Ukraine. With Sweden’s strong defence industrial base we are well equipped to undertake this transformation. (1/10)
Sweden will donate different capabilities in the land and sea domains. More RBS70, grenade launchers, ammunition, anti-tank mines and CBRN equipment will strengthen the Ukrainian ground forces. (2/10)
Sweden will also donate six additional Combat Boat 90 with the addition of some boat launching trolleys. We take note of Ukraine's increasing maritime capabilities in the Black Sea, alongside the corresponding reduction on Russia's side. (3/10)
Just announced: Sweden will donate a new military capability to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. Package 16 will be the largest 🇸🇪 military aid package yet at €1,16bln. Sweden will donate Airborne Surveillance and Control aircraft (ASC 890) to 🇺🇦. (1/6)
ASC 890 will provide 🇺🇦 with a new capability against both airborne and maritime targets. 🇺🇦 capability to identify targets at long range will be strengthened. They will act as a force multiplier with the introduction of F-16. AMRAAMs will also be donated. (2/6)
Sweden will also donate its entire stock of armoured tracked personnel carriers (PBV 302) to support the reconstruction of new Ukrainian brigades. Sweden will also donate artillery ammunition and resources for maintenance of previously donated materiel. (3/6)
@swedishPM and I just announced that Sweden is joining the Leopard 2 tank coalition. Sweden will give up to 10 Leopard 2 A5 main battle tanks to Ukraine. This, with the 50 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles on the way, will significantly strengthen the armed forces of Ukraine. (1/7)
Sweden will also donate a substantial amount of HAWK air defence system components and ammunition. The value of the components and ammunition if purchased would be several hundred million euros. (2/7)
HAWK is a medium range system that defends against enemy aircraft, helicopters and missiles. This donation can help Ukraine strengthen its air defences in multiple places and help deny Russia access to the airspace. (3/7)
