In his late 70s Haim is suffering from serious health conditions. He was born in displaced persons camp near Rome a year after the liberation of his parents. This did not deter the police from arresting him & keeping him in harsh conditions in a dirty detention cell overnight 2/6
only to release him Sat morning without charge, but subject to further investigation. It’s because of his family history & intimate knowledge from his parents that he is compelled (like other descendants of Holocaust survivors, myself included) to oppose this ongoing genocide 3/6
Our history, as descendants of Holocaust survivors, is at the heart of our beliefs, and in the case of Haim and myself our scholarly publications and political activity.

It is important to note, as many Holocaust and Genocide studies scholars (i.e. Bartov, Segal, Hillberg, Friedlander and others) observe, that genocides tend to develop in stages 5/6
from discrimination to expulsion to forcing people into areas with limited food and healthcare to massacres to mass extermination, and that the Gaza genocide is now possibly drifting towards this final stage.
