THREAD: Here's a running list of things to consider doing now, during these quiet weeks before the storm. Add your own in the comments and share with anyone who needs help right now.
Have faith in a higher power: whatever that may be for you. Have faith in your inner light. You are not alone. Ideas, like democracy, are powerful, and cannot be killed.
Commit to staying human: this isn’t the time to blame and rip each other apart. You can do that privately with people you trust, if that makes you feel better. Be committed to unity and collective safety. Stay human.
Check in on the people who are most vulnerable--even a simple text message to let them know that you’re here and you’re thinking of them.
Mantra for when you're scared: Love.
Ignore harassment and get away. You can also call 9/11 if it feels safe to do so.
Help others get away from harassment. Film what's happening if you are unable to help them get to safety.
Be aware of corporate surveillance. Your cellphone and Alexa are listening devices. WhatsApp and Signal are not foolproof. Communicate about sensitive topics in writing then burn the paper, flush the ashes, as one example.
Join a local mutual aid society to help the most vulnerable. That local community is also the eyes and ears of an early warning system.
Be careful what you put in writing anywhere. Don't make any threats, even if it’s a joke.
Be committed to nonviolence: we are outgunned. We must establish a culture of nonviolence as it will also help expose anyone calling for violence as a potential regime plant (a.k.a. provacateurs).
Create a "go bag"--passports and other IDs, glass bottled water, masks, solar-powered phone charger and cable, protein bars, medicines.
Get your papers in order. Passports. Tax returns. Keep clean records. Have a lawyer you trust on speed dial.
Keep a journal: record the history of today--of what’s happening.
Buy physical books, not just audio or digital books, that preserve America’s history, including of the Trump years.
Local elections still matter: Your local elections, wherever you live, are your buffer against this. Organize, run for office, create independent media focused on where you live.
Build your own media that speaks out against cruelty, especially rape culture.
In the years ahead, monitor your food and water intake, due to rolled regulations. Grow what you can. Cut down on meat products. The Boar's Head plant in Virginia is a sign of things to come.
For children and grandchildren, give them the best childhood ever, full of wonder and nature. Hold space for them to live in a Trump-free bubble for as long as possible. For older kids who already understand what's happening, remind them that their voices matter.
On Trump’s inauguration day in 2017, I bought N95 masks that would come in handy later when he, unlike Obama and ebola, failed to stop a global pandemic, even though the Obama administration left him a guide on how to do this.
People will have their own variations of the advice here and more ideas to offer. The point is to use this "quiet time" now, and prepare for the horror show to be unleashed in full force, deliberately, in January. Don't cope by pretending it won't be so bad. Brace now for impact.
Those around you may be coping by staying optimistic. They will meltdown in January, February when reality sets in. Accept reality now so that you can be strong for others later.
They will start with rounding up the 11 million like they promised their base. The markets reacted to that by sending prison stocks soaring. They will target blue cities first to terrorize us into submission. Have a safehouse just in case you need one in another state or abroad.
If you have anything to add, do so. I'll end with this: protect your mental hygiene. Cut off people you can't 100% trust. Red flags are a matter of when, not if. Build your circle of survival. Block the charismatic grifters who told you both parties are the same or not to vote.

Russia wants you to think sanctions aren't working. In this week's @gaslitnation, I talk to investigative journalist @StephaniBaker on her powerful new book Punishing Putin—how we can go even further to dismantle Russia's war machine and fight kleptocracy gaslitnation.libsyn.com/punishing-putin
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, a staggering 20,000 sanctions have been imposed, making it the most sanctioned nation on earth. These sanctions have cost Russia hundreds of billions, worsening its economy
Russian oligarchs feel the pressure, with billions frozen in the West, yachts amd mansions seized—their lavish lifestyles in Europe have come to a halt. Now, their playground is mostly limited to Turkey and Dubai
Trump and MAGA are trying to steal the 2024 election. Their Big Lie conspiracy already laid the groundwork. Here's what you need to know about how to stop them🧵
Remember: Mueller said under oath to Congress Trump could be indicted after leaving office. The fact that he wasn't indicted by the DOJ as president or after for RussiaGate is institutional failure pbs.org/newshour/polit…
As we saw in 2016 if Trump steals the election he gets to stay in power. No one is going to do much about it other than call for investigations and come up with excuses for why he gets to stay in power, normalizing the crime. The only time to stop Trump is now.
We are in the fight of our lives, and the media normalizes Trump like they did in 2016. Listen to this week's @gaslitnation, The Kremlin Convention, on the #RNC2024 and the "both-sidesing" of America's far-right driven political violence crisis🧵gaslitnation.libsyn.com/kremlin-conven…
"The ridiculous drone of bleating sheep from Animal Farm in the mainstream media call on 'both sides' to turn the temperature down." --@gaslitnation
"The media continues to fail the American public. The most dangerous people in America swear, finally, finally, Trump is going to see the light of Christ or something. Suddenly, he's going to become a normal human being, a human being who actually feels things."
--@gaslitnation
Eighty years after countless people gave their lives liberating Europe, fascism makes a comeback in European elections. @terrelljstarr and I discuss the MAGA virus, its devastating impact on Ukraine, and how to resist it in this week's @gaslitnation gaslitnation.libsyn.com/why-is-fascism…
I asked @terrelljstarr, who's in Ukraine, the impact of MAGA deliberately delaying aid for 6 critical months, giving Russia the advantage. It's bad.
“Russia has been attacking Ukraine's critical infrastructure, causing scheduled blackouts across the country, especially in central and eastern Ukraine.”
-@terrelljstarr
Project 2025 is 900 pages long, because they don't want you to read it. Anne Nelson read every creepy page and breaks it down in the Gaslit Nation Project 2025 Super Special.🧵
Project 2025 is the radical right's blueprint for dismantling American democracy. They want to eliminate the Dept of Education, turn the FBI/DOJ into the president's personal security forces to crush his enemies. It's straight out of an authoritarian playbook. #Project25
Project 2025 even aims to repeal Schedule F, allowing a president to replace thousands of federal employees with partisan loyalists. It's the ultimate cronyism, threatening the impartiality of our civil service. #Project25
What's Russia's greatest weapon in its genocide of Ukraine and fascist global war on democracy? Western corruption. Here's a thread of urgent solutions of how to fix this and ensure Ukraine wins🧵
It cannot be overstated Trump/MAGA through Mike Johnson successfully delayed aid to Ukraine for six critical months, helping Russia’s military advance. This is treason. Trump and all MAGAs in Congress are traitors to our country and undermined our allies nytimes.com/2024/05/14/us/…
As Trump/MAGA deliberately delayed Ukraine aid, Russia was given much-needed time to innovate technologically, with the help of sanctions evasions and tech from Western companies
