I don't have answers... except my own. I hope that makes sense.

I was diagnosed 8 years ago. There was immediate relief. But the learning curve was steep for some years.

I need to write on this i don't think I hit the nail on the head yet.

I found my wife. First Neurodivergent -tolerant in my life. As was her family.

After 6 decades of chaos and trauma I had lived... I had enough comfort & control to look at my life.

I discovered my sensory needs...

@I_FredericLewis @ashleyann_atx Career & relation chaos had blinded me to ALL my differences. Even obvious sensory sensitivities.

So I focused on reducing noise, light, etc etc. More comfort. More spoons & energy to notice more, work on more.

I tried NOT masking, not living for the comfort of others...

I have a thought. Indirection may be a significant defense mechanism for other human populations.

I can't think of another benefit to "read between the lines" communication. Which seems universal... at least in my culture.

Irony, indirect language, hinting around, unspoken rules... offer deniability against motives... or even questions of one's intelligence.

Unfortunately a defense mechanism I innately lack?

So when I ask a clarifying question, it's a form of calling out the other person... in their defended eyes

So they react with anger, embarrassment, irritation, frustration... Instead of, ya know, the information I'm seeking?
