Today is Day 999 of Europe's war

It's cold in the UK today. Imagine if you didn't have heat. Not just for one day, but maybe for most of the winter Now imagine it's 10 degrees colder

If you can do that you understand what people in #Ukraine feel, or fear.
Welcome to my daily🧵
Monday and Tuesday are days of mourning in #Sumy region after an horrific attack on an apartment block.

It was the last in a long line of murders of civilians by #Russia on Sunday.

I produced the longest thread for months (over 60 posts) - catch up here
Let me start today's news in #Sumy, because sadly the number of killed + injured after #Russia's strike have both increased.

An 11th person died during the night while 89 people required medical treatment. Medics, rescuers, psychologists and volunteers worked through the night.
All the areas in western #Ukraine which were without power yesterday have now had supplies restored.

#Sumy and #Odesa remain two large areas where most have no electricity.

#StandWithUkraine
#Russia attacked #Ukraine with two Iskander ballistic missiles last night and one Kh-59 guided missile, none of which could be intercepted.

None of the 11 drones hit target. 8 were shot down and 3 stopped by EW. Image
After having zero boats in the Black Sea for weeks, #Russia has quietly moved 2 missile-carrying warships back into the water to the south of #Ukraine.

They are carrying a total of 8 cruise missiles. Image
Now to #Russia's daily losses for the last 24 hours (#Ukraine figures).

1,560 more dead/wounded keeps up the November average. Even though there are only 30 days, it's well on course to be the bloodiest month for the invaders.
Indeed, it should break the record on 28 Nov. Image
So the USA finally lifted the incredibly harmful ban on using long range weapons in #Russia. But whether there is unrestricted use is not clear.

No Taurus from #Germany.. but Berlin will give #Ukraine new "Mini-Taurus" AI drones.

Not thought to be related to the war, but a very upsetting story from #Dnipropetrovsk.

Fire has hit the Pegasus stables and equine hospital in the village of Yelizavetivka.

It's thought 140 horses died in the fire. The structure was made of wood. Image

#RussiaOnFire

In #Yekaterinburg people are jumping from windows to save themselves.

The roof of City Hospital No. 3 caught fire.

Officials say it is now under control.
#Odesa has been hit by a missile.

There are casualties. Residential buildings and civil infrastructure has ben damaged.

#Odesa UPD

Eight people have died, 18 more were injured.

A child was among the injured. Four of the wounded are in serious condition.
#RussiaIsATerroristState
#Odesa

In the attack which killed at least 8 and injured 18, two residential buildings were damaged.

It's reported another missile, which did not explode, hit an educational institution.

Well I guess I'm being hidden again by Xitter and definitely not showing up in people's feeds judging by how few views and interaction there is.

How convenient to suppress pro-#Ukraine accounts when #Russia goes on a mass killing spree.

On his Telegram channel, President #Zelenskyy reacts to the latest tragedy.

The automated Google translation still uses the Russian spelling for #Odesa, and there is a misleading translation to "dozens" for a word which means "10s" - so to clarify, the number injured remains 18 Image
Remember the usual. If you read something good about Russia, or bad about Ukraine, if it doesn't "smell" right, check who's publishing it. Check with other sources you know are reliable.

Some bad things do happen in 🇺🇦 but we will report them accurately.
#Odesa

Now 39 injuries have been reported, four of whom at children under 12. The death toll remains at 8.

Three residential buildings were damaged, one caught fire. The roof of a university was also damaged by falling debris.

#Odesa UPD
The number of people killed, as a result of #Russia's missile attack this morning, has increased to 10.

7 of the dead are policemen and medics and 2 local residents also died.

Among 39 injured are 14 police. Image

Videos have been released of the moment #Russia hit a hydro-electric power plant in #Kremenchuk.

It was part of yesterday morning's massive missile attack.

Local sources say the strike was carried out by three missiles, two of which hit nearby.

Interesting incident to report in #Russia's crumbling aviation industry.

A pilot on a Rossiya Airlines flight from #StPetersburg to #Nalchik reports attempts to blind them with a green laser as they came in to land.

They managed to touch down without problems. Image
#Russia vetoed a UN resolution to end the war in #Sudan.
Fancy that - Russia not caring about peace!

#Ukraine has "scaled up" the manufacture of Neptune missiles.

Defence Minister @rustem_umerov announced the missile has been improved too, and they've already made 100 this year alone. Image
Image
In #Odesa, photos have been released of the 7 police officers killed in #Russia's attack.

There's also the first picture from Odesa's Agricultural University which was hit by a falling missile, ripping through the roof.

In total 10 died and 55 were injured.

#Ukraine's President went right to the hottest spot on the frontline today. Zelenskyy was in #Kupiansk, where one of #Russia's advanced groups made it all the way into the town.

Sorry, this one missed the thread..

Explosions in #Zaporizhzhia and half the city is without power again.

It therefore looks like another energy structure has been hit.

No official details yet.
It's just gone midnight in #Ukraine
That means it's the start of the 1,000th day of #Russia's full invasion. Every single day I've reported + analysed the war

I remember writing if Ukraine could get through the first 10 days they had a chance to survive!
Satellite photos show #Russia's massively increasing production of rocket engines.

@fab_hinz analysed the pics to ascertain there are five factories to produce solid-fuel rocket engines.

#Kyiv is defending itself against attack drones.

Earlier #Russia hit #Zaporizhzhia with at least 10 Iran-made #Shahed UAVs.
Around 13,000 subscribers are estimated to be without power.
Just one new coffee arrived today - minutes ago, from @2ylan.

Also, the monthly sub from @Anna_Bowles came through today. Thanks to both of you for supporting my work.
The so-called 'president' of #Abkhazia has resigned.
At the weekend, Aslan Bzhania had said he would step down, but would likely stand again in the new election.

VP Bandra Gunba becomes acting president of the defacto #Russia-occupied part of #Georgia.

Another strike on #Sumy region tonight.

It's reported by locals that the bodies of a mother and a child have been recovered from under the rubble here in #Hlukhiv, 10km from the border with #Russia.

An attack drone caused the collapse of the front of a 5-storey building.
Elsewhere in #Ukraine there are 13 other drones, with 5 probably heading to #Kyiv.

As always, full update in the morning, see you then (although I plan to start the Day 1000 thread now and then sleep).

So good night and thanks for being part of #TeamTim

The war in Europe continues. This is Day 1445 of Russia's attempt to erase Ukraine from the map & destroy its language and culture.

The genocide continues as I type, with a massive missile attack underway.

For all the news as it happens, keep checking back. This is THE daily🧵
Yesterday started with a supposed assassination attempt on another very senior Russian soldier.

A load of other great stories too, including the start of the overnight attack on Ukraine's remaining energy facilities. Catch up on what you missed here:

Having seen around 200 attack drones flying at the height of Russia's attack tonight, there are now around half that.

Day 1444 of Russia's merciless war has begun with the invaders losing another Lieutenant General - has Ukraine's special services struck again?

Detail on all the stories, all day, every day in my daily thread. Let's Go!
Thursday's thread included the release of a relatively small number of POWs - but finally some Azov fighters were freed.

And double delight for Ukraine tennis fans, to offset a little of the pain of more Russian attacks.
If you missed anything, click⬇️

So, Russia's reporting (which doesn't necessarily make it true) that one of the most senior Generals has been shot.

Lt Gen Vladimir Alekseev is said to be alive and in hospital after the attack in Moscow.

What makes me a little suspicious is there are no photos from the scene. Image

It's Monday, the second day of the 2nd month.
Day 1440 of Russia's illegal full invasion of its sovereign neighbour.

As we approach another round of "peace talks", Russia seems to be preparing by committing an ever growing number of sickening war crimes.

This is THE daily🧵
Yesterday was one of those days when I was repeatedly sickened by the actions of the monsters from Moscow.

The "energy truce" broken by attacking a bus of civilian miners heading to work. A medical building inc. a maternity unit hit, and more
Review here
Monday is a day of mourning in Dnipropetrovsk region following the deliberate targeting of a bus in the small town of Ternivka, near Pavlohrad.

16 people were killed. Another 14 are in hospital, seven of whom are in a serious condition.

Saturday 27 December 2025 is Day 1403 of Russia's war of choice.

The day began with missile attacks on Ukraine shortly after midnight and the terrorism continued with drone strikes, may into residential areas, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of the damage.

Here's THE daily thread
Here's the link to yesterday's thread, which started with Russian murders, missiles on streets in Kharkiv and ended with the missile attack on Kyiv.

But there were also 'direct sanctions' taken by Ukraine on war criminals and military targets:

News is still coming in from Kyiv especially after the awful bombardment. Mayor of the city, @Vitaliy_Klychko has just issued an update saying 28 people have been injured, with 13 hospitalised

Although the city's had the air raid warning lifted, it's still affecting Kyiv region Image

Christmas Eve is another milestone as we mark the latest 100 days of war

Yes, it's Day 1400 of Ukraine's fight for its existence.
Coming up:
Zelenskyy accepts peace plan but are we really nearer peace?
A twist in Moscow's 2nd car bomb in 24 hours.
And all the news yet to happen
A very late start today - I apologise but it's Christmas time with things to do, places to go and also my body demanding enough sleep to survive!

So we start as usual with the throwback to yesterday for you to catch up, which included car bomb #2..

The seemingly random attack on police officers in Moscow last night, may have been a Ukraine targeted attack.

Two "traffic officers" died overnight on the same street where a Lt Gen was eliminated the day before.
Now it's reported the dead were in Ukraine and tortured civilians Image

This is the start of Tuesday's daily thread, with all the important news from, and relevant to, Ukraine in one handy place.

It's Day 1385 and I've still never missed a day of fact checking, analysing and reporting every aspect of the defence against Russia's illegal war.
Yesterday a lot of talking behind the scenes, but politicians were broadly tight-lipped on progress.

Russia did make more small gains on the frontline, but we also found a cat with burned whiskers + how Russian pilots' head-tennis went disastrously wrong
Pres Zelenskyy's whirlwind tour continues, arriving in Rome this morning to meet the Pope at Castle Gandolfo.

At Villa Barberini, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was welcomed by the vice-regent of the papal household, Augustinian Father Edward Daniang Daleng.
